My first trip to vegas, Will I need a car?

I'm staying on the strip 4 days. Would the cost of cab fare be more than a car rental?

Depending on where you want to go ie..hoover dam the desert in general..I'd would rent you would have much more freedom. Good luck and remenber Black Jack has best odds! And remember that town was not built on winners.

On your first trip to Vegas you should't need a car or to get a cab very often. There is so much to see there and if you use taxis you'll be missing a bunch. You will walk a lot, be prepared. If you know specific places you want to go I recommend getting the day pass for the bus also known as the "Duece". I used the bus quite a bit if I traveled between downtown and "The Strip".

No, not at all. Everything is either within walking distance, or there is a bus or shuttle that will transfer you for free or a small fare. You can take the bus up and down the strip, for about $6, and it is literally good for 24hrs. There are also buses that will take you to off strip locales.

Riverrat
You will need neither. You can walk and there is so much to see at each casino you will not have time for cabs or rental cars. Have fun and enjoy!!! Take a shuttle from the airport or a cab to your hotel.

It depends on what you're planning to do. It's possible to not even leave the hotel you're staying in for that whole time because there;s so much to do.

BUT - if you're staying on the strip and don't plan on venturing off much (i.e. if you want to see the Hard Rock, the Palms, or the Rio) - cab it. You can pretty much walk to anything else you want to see.

If you're going to be doing a bunch of trips to the outlying areas, then rent a car. I rent a car when I go because I have friends spread out from Henderson to Summerlin (basically, one side of the city to the other) and I go visiting.

Good luck and enjoy your trip!

Take the bus, trolley and tram. These would save you compared to the cost of a car rental vs a cab. If you have no plans to leave the strip, you do not need a car.

If your scared that you will be lost you could go in a cab or if your not scared that you will be lost then drive a car.

Sucre
nope

I think you may take a taxi but it will be more expensive... its up to you to deside.

You bring up a good point. The cost of cabs (and by cabs I do not mean the Deuce or other buses..strictly taxi cabs) if taken frequently would probably equal to be more if not the same price is renting a car. However, driving on the strip is obnoxious and very time consuming (especially if you are a tourist). Its easier to use your feet or take one of the many other transportation methods available.
Its up to you. The Deuce is the most affordable as prices range $5 for all day all you can ride pass.

If you are just going to be sight seen on the strip your are better off just walking and or taking the bus or a cab. The buses run very regular there. A cab would be a good idea if you a specific place in mind that is further then you would want to walk or you would have to take more then one bus to get there. I would not want a car just because then you are waisting so much more time trying to park, and money paying valets. You see so much more buy walking then you would just riding around. Have fun... and remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!

AskAStupidQuestion...
There are some trams, and you can walk to a lot of stuff. I was there 4 days and only needed a cab once, to get home from a show all the way on the other end of the strip. It was about $10, if i recall.

I like to walk, so I say hoof it, but if you want to get to the more remote attractions, a car might be a good idea.

Depending on where your staying. we went for 4 days and stayed at the Stratisphere. theres a bus that goes up the street to all the main places and once your up there you walk the strip. I think its a waste of money. When we went we got a limo that happened to be looking for a fare & 8 of us took it up to the main drag for like $25.00

No. Simplest answer that I can guarantee. Assuming you are flying in, the airport is quite close, taxi drivers are courtious, affordable, and safe. Everything you want or need in Las Vegas is within walking distance or a very short taxi ride. If you are interested in seeing the large Dam, forget it's name, take a tour.

By the way, just a heads-up, people don't refer to Las Vegas as Vegas, unless they are in a really old movie. Sort of like calling San Francisco, San Fran. Too Corny!

Enjoy yourself, don't spend more than you can afford, don't be a pig at the buffet, as you will not enjoy your trip if you are both stuck-up and gassed-up.

If you win enough money, you may want to purchase a really cool car and drive it back home. I always enjoy by trips to Las Vegas. I'm not a big gambler, but will gamble some. I like to people watch and you will never stop being amazed at what you will see. Oh, by the way, don't try to take a slot machine that looks unoccupied. Quite often the person sitting next to it is playing two or more machines. You will really set him or her off, if you don't ask for permission first.
