My wife and I want to make short trips, but we have pets. What can we do with them while we are away ? |
Trips would be only for a couple of nights or so. Nothing extended like a week or two at this time. |

Do you have any local kennels? My local groomer and vet has a kennel where they will keep the dogs for you. You want to use someone that is trustworthy so you know the conditions will be good for your pet.
You could also ask friends or family to watch them for you. Be sure to leave good instructions, their food and toys and a number to contact you at.
Also, you could check, there are pet hotels now as well. It is basically a kennel, but a little nicer for your pets.
You could even consider taking them with you to a hotel that accepts pets, or purchasing a motorhome so they can travel with you. |

You can do one of two things. Take them with you, or find a boarding kennel. Cats should be ok to be left at home if you have someone to check in on them. Fish can be left with either someone to come in and feed them or a feeding disk that you can buy at any pet store or Walmart. |

we always left our pets at home. if the trip was more than a couple of days, we had a friend or neighbor come by every couple of days or so to check the food and water levels. |

Find a really GOOD kennel, don't settle on the first one you look at or the one closest to your house. Not all kennels are created equal. They should let you look at all the facilities. Ideally they will be staffed 24 hours a day and your dogs will be let out or walked 4 times a day minimum. |

Call a local kennel, and check their facilities and accreditations thoroughly. |

get a pet sitter to come in and a. either stay at your home or b. come in and feed, and play with them. I do this, and it's worked just fine. |

Take them with you if you can. I have two small dogs and they go allot of places with my hubby and I. I have been surprised how many places accommodate them with pleasure.
If you don't want to or can't, I suggest a pet sitter. There are allot of them in the Dallas area (I see you posted in Dallas) and I used one when I lived in Coppell.
Screen them though before you hire them. Get references since they will be in your home! Meet them with your pets to see how you pets do with them. After you make the match its a life saver. I used to travel allot for work and couldn't take them with. My pet sitter would come 2-3 times a day and take them out running them for exercise 30 minutes every visit. |

You can take them with you. Most motels have a pet policy. You can ask a friend or relative to take care of them while you are gone. You can board them at a kennel. There are even pet sitters out there that will set with your pet while you are away. |

Although you can look up pet-sitters in the Yellow Pages, you might find it more secure to leave them at the Pet Hotel. YES! You read correctly, the Pet Hotel. Many PetSmart Stores feature this innovative service which will certainly guarantee your pet is in safe hands, benefits from much needed social relations with other dogs, and is fed only the BEST food.
Hope my answer suits you well. |

The pet store sells dishes that have timers on them. You freeze the food and it opens up according to schedule. I only have a cat so there is no issue with having to go outdoors for walks. |

A couple of options come to mind - most cities have pet boarding businesses. Also, there are often pet-sitters that will come to your home to feed, water, walk, etc. your pets. Some pet sitters will also house-sit if you have the need. Check with your local vet for some suggestions... |

Depends on the type of pets. Cats can be alone with proper preparation. Dogs need kennelling or a reputable sitting service. Exotic pets might need a special friend to look in on them. Good luck! |
