NEW YORK over CHRISTMAS!?

Me and my boyrfriend want to go to New York over the Christmas and New Year period, and we was just wondering where we can get the best deal. We ideally want to stay in central New York, i.e. Manhattan rather than New Jersey. Was just wondering if anyone can help with getting the best deal over this time period as we're hoping to spend 7/8 nights there. Can anyone help? xx

What American Airlines are there? I know there's American Airlines!!

Getting a deal in NYC is tough now a days. try http://www.kayak.com/ and I have had luck on http://travel.priceline.com/hotels/default.asp?irefid=HPTRAV1216ICON&irefclickid=HOTEL. good luck

ohh i envy you. it looks so magical over there

new york is beautiful over christmas, i went there a few years ago, such a wonderful atmosphere. i stayed in a hotel called hotel eddison, just off of time square, the staff were wonderful, although it was expensive it was well worth it. you are going to pay alot of pennies over there at that time. btw, wrap up warm, i have never been so cold in my life!!!!

The best thing is to fly an America airline and use their recommended hotels - good deals for christmas and some even have business class deals

Look on the internet and call several travel agents. Try not to wait too long, the closer the time comes to Christmas the harder it will be to book reservations.

If you've never been to Manhattan you're going to love it. Make sure to check out Radio City Music Hall.

Christmas in NYC is great!!!!! Skating at Rockefeller Center, the window decorations at Lords and Taylors and Macy's. You will have a blast. Now, if you want to see the ball drop, but don't want to stand in the cold, you could always stay at the Marriot in Times Square (right across the street from Planet Hollywood and its where Dick Clark did New Year's Rockin' Eve before the stroke).

But for great deals, you can go to either of the following websites:

www.hotels.com
www.expedia.com
www.cheaptickets.com
www.orbitz.com
www.travelocity.com

Have a great time!!!!

Just an idea....7-8 nights in New York is going to be pricey.

Most people know that hotels are really expensive in NYC over the holidays. Seriously though, there are some hotels that are really comfortable, clean, and relatively inexpensive. The only catch is that they dont have private baths.

Dont shriek, "Yuk!" because these places are really clean and are typically small so it isnt like you are reliving your college days or waiting on "line" to use the john or whatever. I've stayed in them with my gf and never had a problem. (Most people are out and about all day anyway!)

Anyway, just a suggestion.

There's something magical that happens in NY at Christmas time, it's wonderful, you'll not only see it but, feel it. Visit NY, be careful, NYC has a way of getting into your blood, it's very easy to fall in love with New York City, many do, stay here, and now call it "HOME" ! I live on Long Island (Manhattan's bedroom), it takes me about 40 minutes to get home from Manhattan by train, when I see the blgs from the aircraft I'm on that is landing, I still say "I'M HOME"...... ENJOY !

Whatever you do, do not stay in New Jersey - you will spend all of your time in a car or train rather than seeing New York. You will spend all the money you save on the room on getting to places.

Manhattan is very very crowded at Christmas, but lovely. Make time to wander around and see the Christmas window displays and the tree at Rockefeller. If you go browsing the windows later at night after eating, the crowds (kids) will have thinned out a bit. And dress warmly - our winters are colder than yours usually. Dress in layers as the indoors/shops can be overheated as well.

Do try travelocity and orbitz.com for the hotels - they are all a bit pricey, but friends have found some pretty good deals at the last minute there. And be prepared for your room to be fairly small - Christmas is a big tourist season.

You will have a great time though - New York is my favourite city, and it is so beautiful at Christmas.

If you have time, and need a break to get warm, go to the Metropolitan Museum of art on Central park - their indoor Christmas tree is amazing. I try to see it every year if I can.

Generally, after Christmas seeing things is a bit calmer as all the shopping is out of the way. People are more relaxed.

I was in New York last Christmas and had a great time. If you are going to stay that long why don't you look at renting a studio apartment, as it will be cheaper then a hotel and a little more homely then being in a hotel on Christmas day. Be warned, New York is the the city that never sleeps but it does have a little sleep on Christmas day!

I have also added a list of American airlines for you.
