.hm.. i've lived in both cities. I moved back to New York after living in LA for years..... I personally prefer NYC..... but LA is gonna be warmer in january than good old new yorkkkkk.... :) |

forget la .. nyc has everything you want in one place.. in la you have to travel everywere.. in NYC you can take a cab or brave the subway ( its not that hard ) and theres no other palce to go shopping better than NYC.. LA can't compear |

I have visited New York in December and LA in June. Both places have good places to shop (although I did not go to either for shopping). They both have good places to eat. Both places had a some form of public transport.
I cannot compare which is better for shopping as I did not go to either city to shop. New York's dining seemed more cosmopolitan but the quality of food was very good in LA and NY. The public transport in NY is better with more cabs and buses and a larger underground system. I was lucky in LA that I was on a good bus route to everywhere I wanted to go but you will need to consider getting a car depending on what you wish to visit.
If you have not been to either, both are worth a visit. However, I would tend to side with NY. There are more things to do for a tourist. If going in January, the issue is going to be climate. New York, albeit a shorter flight, will be cold in January. Los Angeles will take twice as long to get to but will have a warmer climate. |

I lived in LA, the city is a concrete jungle.
The only thing I liked about it was the weather and the beaches. Other than that, you can have it.
I have not been to New York so I cannot make an informed judgment on that city. But I have a very good friend from the Bronx, he loves New York, but does not paint a pretty picture of the life there. |

There is no reason to go to LA, except maybe to catch the flight to Hawaii. If you want Disney it is in Florida, and the state is nicer, if you want Sea World it is in Florida or Texas, if you want to go to the beach you are better off in the Florida Keys or South Padre Island Texas.
If you want to shop, eat, and everything else then you need to be in New York. |

NY is probably 1000 times better than LA. It is much larger, has lots of friendly people, and is much more convenient. They have the best shops, food, clothing, landmarks, and everything else you can expect in the whole world. |

La is all high fashion and stuff to many fake rich ppl for my taste.
NY has so many different places like china town which is funny, alot of vintage stores, awesome down town underground stores, and also high fashion. Also oyu can visit the today show in hte mornging and b eon tv or see a free concert there. Since its jan idk is the tree will be up or not. But there so many things to see. and when its winter its beautiful. I guess i say Ny is better cause i live by it lol. |
