I Can't Tell You. ;)

Need help making at least $1000?

I live on the Big Island of Hawaii and want to go to Oahu for 8th grade grad/my 14th b-day (june) but i need $80 for a plane ticket, and at least $500 for a hotel, not to mention food/shopping, etc.

What i am asking is is there a fast way to make money in 7 months? I was thinking of lawn care but i don't know what to charge! Or how to do it! My dad says charge $20 an hour, is that right???

I am 13, i might take my 9yr old and 13 yr old friend, too...

I don't live in Hawaii...but here in New Mexico that is what my kids charge an hour :)

i would never pay by the hour otherwise people move slowly..

You need to charge a flat rate depending on the lawn size

0so lets say a small lawn $10
medium $15
large $20
extra lg $25

you can also deliver newspapers , walk dogs and let everyone in the neighborhood know you could feed there pets when they leave town , sell candy at school during lunch

well, $20 an hour sounds good. my dad owns a landscaping business but because you are only 13 you may not do everything that he does when he cares for a yard and gets around $300 a day sometimes. my brother helps out sometimes and gets about $30 to mow the lawn. another thing you can do is make spam musubis, li hing mui lolipops, li hing mui gummy worms and bears...ask your mom guys for help. i went to europe in the 7th grade and needed to raise about $7500 dollars because i was broke and my trip alone costed $6300. we sold all those things and then some! like shortbread cookies, pickled mango, mango seed, plate lunches, and more!

i dunno how much you plan on spending on shopping and transportation and stuff. when i went to oahu in may for a girls weekend i spent about $3500 for 3 plane tickets from maui to oahu, 2 night hotel, bus, breakfast lunch and dinner and then shopping at ala moana. and i got paid back about $250 for the other 2 plane tickets and we split the hotel three ways so the rest was spending money for me! oh, and a $1000 was for my round trip plane ticket to get home to maui from washington...including spending money. your stay might be different because i dunno know what two 13 yearolds and a 9 yearold would want to do in oahu by themselves besides shop...i went with me, 20...my cousin, 18...and my other cousin, 15.

anyways, good luck!!

alohas,
andra

edit...i was reading above and forgot to very good things...washing cars (get all your friends and family to help so you guys can jam!) and recycling! hi 5 is good for the people who actually need it. just be sure you aren't one of those kolohe people that steal the bottles and cans from the redemption center! it's illegal...im sure your house has parties like mines and everyone else's house in hawaii. when the ohana gets together get choke green and brown bottles.

Well ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS should be an easy task. If you live near some campgrounds on the island, then they have some dumpsters. Make the midnight raids with some minors goggles and a beam of light on top to see the bottles… at 5 cents per bottle you’d need. 20 to the buck. 20 x 1000 = 20,000 bottles. Can be done in desperate times. Or you could charge 20 bucks / hr for your services. Lawn mowing, cleaning, car wash and wax jobs…. Oh very clean indeed. People get your mind out of the gutter.

$20 seems like a lot for lawn care, why not try somehting else like:

Babysitting?
Working as a waitress?
Helping out in a library?
Taking the neighbourhood dogs for a walk?
Washing cars?

Or maybe all of the above! Hard work pays off!

Good luck... Hope you get your holiday!

that sound about right. you could also try washing cars. walking dogs. babysitting. possibly running errands.

20$ an hour is pretty good. maybe you should find some other jobs to do, like babysitting. Babysitting is the easiest way to make money. Also, going around your neigborhood and raking leaves. Hope that helps!

You need to be 18 yrs old & have a major credit card for the hotel with a valid photo ID. They can't just give you a room, your an 8th grader. And charging $20 an hour for lawn care is insane! no one in Hawaii will pay you that much an hour unless you have a college degree & doing more than mowing their lawns (such as landscaping). Locals of Hawaii don't even make that much at a regular job. Your Dad is an idiot for even telling you that.

$20 an hour??? That is more than I make, and I have two degrees!!!

Do you have 15 years experience in lawn care?

I pay the kid down the street about $5 an hour. And I think I am being nice.

Maui No Ka Oi
See if you can get people to pay you to walk their dogs or clean up after them. Depending where you are on the Big Island this may be hard to find though. There are people who make lots of money doing this.

i'm not sure, but i would charge by square footage. not hours.

you would have to look it up, ive never done it. but it seems like a better way to go.

theres also babysitting.
or doing extra stuff around the house
you can deff. do it, just save the money. dont blow ANY.

its $20....not an hour

if its a normal lawn, a small front and back yard(like everyone elses lawn) then its 20....because i mow lawns and i charge 20 and it only takes me 20-30 min.

mow lawns is fast and easy
babysitting
watching neighbors lawns

also go to craigslist.com and search for local ppl who need help doing stuff

No $20 is too much, it depends the time of work and size of place. I think $10 is ok. Make flyers offering your service and info. Also, never discard babysitting or walking dogs. And why not work for your parents too...if they want of course :)

There is not much you can do for good money as an 8th grader. Mowing lawns is probably the best idea. I wouldn't charge by the hour, charge by the job. If you charge by the hour, they might get pissed off at you if you need to take a 20 minute break. If there is a large yard that needs to be mowed, you can probably make $80 on it. Just be sure you know what u are doing.

you live in Hawaii? yet you want to vacation to Hawaii???

what kind of a vacation is that???
