New York is a terrible place, why do some insist on living in that liberal cesspool? |
I am from Arlington Texas and I would much rather live here as I have a yard and a Chev. Surburban, and live in a more religious area (hardly any Christians in New York, I have never been there but it's obvious because they vote Democrat). I don't have to live in some dumb apartment building, my standard of living is much better than that city. I think anyone who would want to live in New York is just a liberalist elite snob. They don't know how much better I have it.
Can someone please tell me why they are dumb enough to live there? Please don't bring up "culture". I don't have the desire to deal with pseudointellectual persuits such as going to art theaters filled with hippies, or deal with modern art. So it's of little value to me and most people who aren't fake. Additional Details Mike, by Religious I meant saved (I.E., Christians) |

You're not from Arlington--you're from outer space! How dare you malign a city you've never been to before? Your religious and cultural biases mark you as one of the most bigoted, uneducated people I've met on here. NYC is not Sodom and Gomorrha. There are 5 boroughs that actually have individual homes with yards and sidewalks and even trees! Imagine that! As for being all Democrats--the mayor is Republican--obviously your lack of intelligence is showing again if you didn't know this.
I've stayed in or near Arlington several times so I can say with some confidence I'm familiar with your area. I find it to be repressive in that if you're not the "correct" "Christian" religion you're either shunned or ostracized. The people are no friendlier than in NYC--in fact, sometimes I found that if you told them you were from another part of the country that wasn't deemed "acceptable" in their opinion, they looked down their noses at you.
Really, other than being a baseball town (isn't that where the Rangers play) and it's proximity to Ft. Worth and Dallas what does it have to offer? If you say small town, well, I can tell you many other places I'd rather live than hot, dry, dusty Texas.
NYC has a wealth of jobs in the private, industrial, and government sectors. It's not a matter of paying well, but having a job you can excel at and advance in. You can find a job there in fields such as publishing that Arlington could never pretend to aspire to. There are some of the best colleges/universities available. Some of the leading medical centers in the world are located in NYC.
I'm sorry, I just can't get past your ignorance. Hippies? what century are you from? Theatres attract all kinds of people--the pseudo-sophisticated you decry, but also those you genuinely love the arts and support it any way they can. They may give huge donations, but there are also the average people who go as often as they can to the matinees just to enjoy creative work. There's more to art galleries and museums than modern art. You'll find Impressionists, Abstracts, Sculpture, any school of art you could want to enjoy.
I pity you and your ignorance. Answer me this: if you read a scholarly book or article on a bibilical theme and you're not a certified, degree-holding religion major, doesn't that make you a bit of a pseuodintellectual? I mean, how dare you presume to understand something intellectual when you have no background in the subject? Isn't that what you're saying about people who enjoy the cultural aspects of NYC? My question to you isn't any more absurd than your thesis.
By the way, I'm not from NYC, never lived there, but have enjoyed many trips there. I am proud to say I'm from upstate NY. I had planned on visiting Ft. Worth later this summer, but I think I'll skip it and go where there aren't such narrow-minded people.
[Modified] I just saw your comment to Mike. I'm Catholic and I consider myself a Christian because I believe in Christ. In fact, I'm more of a Christian than you because I don't judge people prematurely and without the facts. I was always taught being a Christian meant being open-minded and accepting people not teaching them the errors of their ways because they believe differently. I want to write that you're a pious, self-righteous prig, but then, that wouldn't be Christian of me. |

Part of being New York "elite snob" is knowing that we don't need to defend this place. The people who need it explained will never understand what what makes it so great anyways.
If Texas makes you happy, then great. It makes me happy knowing people like you don't survive very long in this city. |

my husband and i are republicans, and always have been.we live in the beautiful catskill mountains on a 65 acre horsefarm that has been in my family since 1848.my husband is a 20 year army officer retiree, formerly of the 101 airborne division and later, the 5th special forces group, out of fort campbell ,fort bragg and various places in germany.as for standards of living,we make a 6 figure income,as he owns his own real estate company now.we wouldnt trade our mountain heirloom estate for the world.by the way,u are a petty, unhappy and mean spirited person-u must feel inferior to have such an angry axe to grind, with a world of strangers who never harmed you.and thats not christian!as for us,we go to the same church generations of my family were christened in,married in and were mourned in. |

how wonderful for us! one less intolerant biggot in our city. I'm sorry, in what way are you catholic? I suggest you turn to your bible for some more tolerance and less judgement.
I can go on all day, but how 'bout we just do the top ten?
10) not having to fill up gas for SUVs
9) fashion
8) open-minded people
7) accessibility to europe
6) job market
5) higher salaries
4) restaurants
3) how much do you want to bet, there's more churches in ny than any city in tx?
2) like the song says, "if you can make there, you can make it anyway"
1) no rednecks like you
ps: the last two mayors have been republican. |

As a New Yorker I can give you a bit of insight, firstly congrats to you on your religious preference, do what you want but dont be a ditz about it based on politics cuz there are MANY religious people in NY (I am not religious at all so dont think im pressing what I believe its just how it is)
I do not live in an apartment building nor have I ever been to the theater nor do I personally know any one that has and not many people around here do (again before you make a judgement remember there is more to NY then what you see on the movies) I can also assure you that not every person in NY is a liberalist let alone a snob (which I am pretty sure there are as many here as there are anywhere else, that would be like saying that people from Texas are egotystical and dumber then a box of rocks based on the stupid judgements you have made about NY but I dont think that cuz I am not that thick headed, I just know that there are many different people out there some being gifted and others not so much)
But no NY is in no way the best place on earth or let alone this country but like everywhere else it has its pros and cons. The reason people live in NY are varied like education reasons such as myself or they were raised here and enjoy it and prefer the "liberalist snobs" as opposed to the "judgemental ignorant Texans" remember there is more to NY then what you saw on the Spiderman movies and we'll remeber that there is more to Texas then cowboys and fat people (reference to westerns and Supersize me)
I do hope this teaches you to look up some more information before you make really uneducated judgements |

There are LOTS of religious people in New York. I'm Jewish and my family is all from there. And my family is pretty religious.
You're a snob, and you're not a Christian. |

I live in Dallas. But I always wanted to live in NYC in Manhattan. I love the big city feel. NYC is like a much much better version of Europe. I have traveled all over the world. I like walking in the streets, looking around, it has a great feel to it like no other place in the world. There is always something new and things change and its fast. You will get the best fashion, food, and cool things in NYC. I have bought things in NYC that I have never found in any other place in USA. I also know if I make it in NYC, I will be set for life and I can make it anywhere. But on the other hand, there are downsides like you mentioned.....you get very little for your money in NYC. And you don't see too many Americans living in NY. I am not sure if I can live in a small apartment with Russian landlords!!!!! or short term leases.
I would live in NYC if I knew I could make over $70,000 year. But I am not sure and I don't want to take a risk.
Dallas is nice because you get a lot for the money, but there is not much to do beside malls and eating out. Not much are changing or happening in Dallas. So, I've decided to start the luxury life in Dallas with large house and nice cars, and visit NYC once or twice a year! |

Well, it appears you're already too close minded for an answer. I'd be surprise if there actually IS an answer you can accept, because your question set yourself in trying to make US convince you how a piece of coal is more valuable than a diamond.
All I can say is that I hope, one day, you are able to open yourself up to a different experience without ready to bash it in just because it's 'different'. |

NYC is the best place to live because there is so much action around the city. Its okay... everyone has their own opinion. There are many different religions around the big city you just got to know where to go. |

"I am from Arlington Texas and I would much rather live here as I have a yard and a Chev. Surburban"
Oh yeah, because no one in New York City owns a luxury car. Oh, and by the way, there are people here with YARDS. Instead of watching NYC on TV, try seeing for yourself.
"and live in a more religious area (hardly any Christians in New York, I have never been there but it's obvious because they vote Democrat)"
This city has such a mixture of religions. Catholics, Jews, Muslims...the list goes on and on. But you wouldn't know that since you've NEVER BEEN HERE.
"I don't have to live in some dumb apartment building, my standard of living is much better than that city."
Manhattan does not represent all of NYC. Hell, even in Manhattan, people have brownstones, instead of living in condos. I'm sick of you idiots basing your opinions on the stereotypes that you see on TV.
"I think anyone who would want to live in New York is just a liberalist elite snob. They don't know how much better I have it."
No, and they most likely wouldn't care.
But, again, since you've NEVER BEEN HERE, your opinion is officially invalid. You don't know what you're talking about. You're probably one of those fake-*** Christians that goes around snubbing people of other faiths. I am tired of blithering idiots like you making these stupid statements. You wouldn't last a day in New York anyway. You'd probably be the idiot in a cowboy hat and a fanny pack, reading a map upside down. You're such a friggin' loser. |
