I love NYC! Here are some ideas of what you can do while in NYC. First, get a good tour map. Then I recommend you take the BIG APPLE double decker tour bus for an overview of the city. There are several different neighborhoods so I'll highlight these and what to see:
Upper East Side: Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim, Whitney Museum. Walk up and down Madison Avenue for awesome shops and boutiques 96th - 57th st. Walk Park Avenue for architecture all the way to Grand Central Terminal and see the treasures located within. Walk along 5th Avenue to see/go in and out of Central Park - go for a run, go to the Central Park Zoo, go to the Carousel, go for a gondola ride at the boat house.
UPPER WEST SIDE:
Museum of Natural History -a must! on Central Park West,
Walk along Columbus Avenue. Visit the West side of Central Park and pay respects to John Lennon's Strawberry Fields.
MIDTOWN:
Shopping - 57th St (Chanel and the gang), Fifth Avenue - must see Henri Bendel, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks and FAO Schwartz - many other fun stores.
St. Patrick's Cathedral
Museum of Modern Art
Sony Bldg
Rockefeller Center
Go west to awesome new Time Warner center and visit the new Mandarin Hotel bar/restaurant for awesome view and treats!
Oh, Bloomingdale's is on 59th St and Lexington.
Empire State Bldg.
The Intrepid Aircraft Museum is fascinating and on the West side...worth the visit even if you have no kids.

CHELSEA:
Walk around the blooming area sprouting awesome restaurants and shops. Chelsea Pier is fun.

WALL ST:
Pay respects to the 9/11 victims and heroes at the WTC site., Walk Wall St., visit the Chase Hdqtrs, Federal Reserve. Seaport area is great to see.

THE VILLAGE:
Funky shops in the West Village. Walk through the NYU Washington Square Park. The East Village has some shops from new artists and designers

SOHO:
Great galleries and shops on n off West Broadway. Walk thru to Little Italy for awesome meals and desserts...walk through Chinatown. CANAL STREET has stall after stall of Designer "copies"...bring cash and bargain and watch your purse!

These should put an awesome smile on your face. Bring your camera and takes lots of photos to remember your trip. You'll have a blast! OH...BUY this weekly magazine: TIMEOUT NEW YORK on any newstand to see what's going on each week/day. :)

Las Vegas all the way.
As they say...What happens in Vegas...stays in Vegas.

soo diferent- New York is the urbam City, Las Vegas is almost surburban. Different weather, different cultute. Can we share.?

NYC - Have lived there for 5 years, okay the rent is high ( still cheaper than London though ) And a damn sight more intreasting too.

Vegas is good for a weekend away, or Bachelor Parties, but after a while you get fairly bored ¬

never been to Vegas...so i have to say New York.

Gambling or being attacked by terrorists...choices, choices.

Two totally different towns. NYC is a walking town and vegas is a driving town. Besides the strip, surrounding casinos and Lake Mead there is not too much to do. NYC has much more cultural diversity and events.

Vegas is expensive also, but not as outrageous as NYC. It is estimated that 10,000 people move there per month. The winter weather is by far better than NYC's but the summers are brutal. I was visiting from Phx (which is hotter than Vegas) when my soda can exploded in the car from the heat.

There is a monsoon season in Vegas, so it can get humid during those weeks.

That's an unfair question! Both are great spots...

Las Vegas for play, New York for everything else (and some play too).

There is no place like New York City. Las Vegas, while an interesting place to visit, doesn't offer the diversity of New York. Vegas certainly is a fun escape. . .but New York is the "real deal".

Unfortunately I enjoy both places. Each one offers different type o enjoyment. To view American history and the growing up of America New York. Want a great place for night life and a place to maybe come home rich or maybe poor Las Vegas. Although in and around Vegas are places to see one is Hoover Dam.

new york...

I've not been to either but... New York appeals to me more

I live in NY and hate it. I'm moving to Vegas at the end of the year.

NY is too damn expensive. Rent on a one bedroom apartment here is in the neighborhood of $1000 a month for an average neighborhood. I can get a fully furnished apartment in a gated community in Vegas for under $800.

The weather in NY blows. This summer's been either rainy or hot and humid. The winter sucks too. I hate temperatures under 50 degrees - and below freezing looking at single digits is just out of the question. If I was meant for the cold, I would've been born a polar bear. Yeah, Vegas is 120 in the shade in July and August, but it's 70 in December - not 30.

I like New York better because there is action all over the city. When you are off the Strip or not in downtown Las Vegas, there is not much going on. I like how there is so much to do and a lot of activity in New York. Also, there are a lot of places that you can get to easily from NYC. You can take a bus to Washington D.C., Boston, Philadelphia or Atlantic City if you ever get tired of New York. NYC is in a great location and it is convenient to get anywhere. Also there is just something about the atmosphere in NYC that is more exciting to me than Las Vegas.

New York - hands down!
Vegas is only one small area. NYC has miles and miles of great stuff to explore. You have to take many, many trips there to see it all.
I've been once to Vegas, and that's enough for me. But I can't get enough of NYC.

NEW YORK

IT'S VERY EXCITING AND THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS TO DO

bunny
Definitely New York! Vegas is overrated and the excited subsides in about a day. There's just so much to explore in NY. It never gets boring.
