Best time of year to visit.
However, for lights, Hong Kong has NYC beat. |

Absolutely fantastic, it's the best place in the world. I spent Christmas there a couple of years ago, we flew into JFK on Christmas Eve.
The atmosphere is brilliant. On Xmas Eve we went into FAO Schwartz (famous toy store where they filmed the Piano scene from BIG) and they were queueing to get in. The toys in there were out of this world.
The ice skating rink at the Rockerfeller Centre was one of the best bits, a huge tree covered from head to toe in twinkly lights, hundreds of people milling around, Christmas lights everywhere, music playing and people selling hotdogs and roasted chestnuts.
All the shops along 5th Avenue had the most amazing lights or decorations on them and just walking along all wrapped up against the cold in the dark was just such an experience.
As you could tell I loved it! We did the horse and carriage ride around Central Park on Christmas Day and then went to see a Broadway show on Boxing day. The biggest plus for me was that it snowed! It was absolutely magical.
That was the first time I had ever been to NY and at the end of this month I will be making my third visit there. I adore the place but it is far best experienced in winter and with all the Christmas lights up - oh and the Christmas shop in Bloomingdales has some amazing decorations. |

Christmas in NYC. You will experience the hustle and bustle of the shopper-filled streets, Ice Skating in Central Park on sunny winter day, elaborate decorations in store windows and of course the giant tree at Rockefeller Center are all part of the holiday spirit. (Ice Skating at the Rock too) The smell of chestnuts in the air.
Lets not forget Radio City Hall with the famous NYC Rocketts, Santa Claus and the Christmas Show. St Patrick's Cathedral all decorated with the largest crowd you will ever witness.
It's a wonderful time for one and all.
Come and see for yourself) |

NYC is great at Christmastime. Check out nycvisit.com for age appropriate suggestions for your boys. Just saw Mary Poppins - great show for kids and adults alike. Lion King is also great. Try ice sksating at Rockefeller Center - be on the Today show - check out the Nintendo Store at RC too. Ferris wheel in Toy's R Us in Times Square. Candy of all kinds at Economy Candy in lowr Manhattan. Make sure you visit the store windows - all 5th Avenue stores go all out (Macy's too!) with elaborate themed decorations. Shop Chinatown for bargains, visit the Museum of Natural History (A Night at the Museum with Ben Stiller was filmed there). Always lots to do in NYC! |
