Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, Manhattan.. wherever.

There's no sense going around worrying about getting shot. You might see people you don't feel safe around, but that's EVERYWHERE - no matter WHERE you go.

You'd be surprised. Just move to a neighborhood that you think you could see yourself feeling safe in. That's all. YOU have to look - nobody else can dictate your feelings for you.

What a silly question!

You sound like NYC is full of people getting shot all the time!!!

NYC is the safest big city in the U.S.

And even when it was much more dangerous, there were lots of very safe parts of NYC. I live in one!

I have lived in NYC since 1977. The worst things that ever happened to me is I got my wallet lifted on the subway (I lost all of 6 dollars) and my purse was stolen by a fellow student at NYU when I was a student in the 1970s!

That's it. I've never been mugged. Never been threatened. I do walk home at night. I do take the subway, day and night. And I have a lock on my door, but nothing extreme.

Grow up and travel a little. Then you will learn not to be so scared of everything!

LexDiamonds
what kind of ignorance its that? we got the lowest crime rate of any big city in the US.
if you gonna have that attitute, then do all 8 million of us a favour and dont move here, because its obvious you only wanna move here to feel cool.

you can get shot pretty much everywhere.

Native New Yorker
I agree with the last post. New York City has the lowest crime rate since 1963. There is nothing for you to worry about.

Good luck.

Manhattan. That is where I have been in New York and I wasn't fearful for my life. I don't think New York is as bad as people make it out to be. I live in L.A. area and it is worse than that.

You won't get shot in NYC. You may get shot in Texas, but you won't get shot in NY.

crime is random in nyc, you cna be shot anywhere. there are some neighborhoods that are more dangerous than others. take the lower east side where there are millions of bars around. drunk people, pissed off people leaving the bars, muggers and rapists, and even gang members roaming around after a friday night of partying. don't be a victim like her...

" September 28, 2006 -- On a freezing January night in 2005, on a snow-swept Lower East Side street, a beautiful 28-year-old actress named Nicole duFresne, furious that she and her friends were being mugged by a pack of young thugs, shouted what would be her final words.

"You've got what you wanted," she told the one with the silver revolver, parolee Rudy Fleming. "What are you going to do now? Shoot us?"

And with that, Fleming, 19, fired a single shot into her chest, both prosecutors and defense lawyers agree. "

personally? i've witnessed a lot of crimes, i've been a victim of crimes myself. i've seen stuff like a japanese tourist being picked up 7 feet into the air and his face slammed to the ground by a tall black man in times square in a robbery, to fights on the subway involving machetes.

You can get shot anywhere in the world. But that doesn't mean that you will. A lot of things that you think happen in New York are just stereotypes. i live in Brooklyn (the southern part of Bay Ridge) and I don't get shot. If you're really THAT concerned, then I would say upper Manhattan because its more where businesses revolve around, but its also prob the most expensive out of all of New York except some places.

Don't worry about getting shot. There is a small chance that you will get shot or anything like that.
