Best place to live depends on what you are looking for. If you want warmer, sunny weather and beaches then SoCal is obviously the best part of Ca for that. If you want cooler, more seasonal weather with more rain and lots of forests and trees then NorCal is better.
I was born and raised in the SF Bay Are and have lived in San Diego for 6.5 years now and honestly I love both parts of the state equally. But since NorCal is where all of my family and childhood friends are it will always be by true home no matter what. To me no place no matter how great it is can replace where you grew up and your family is.
But with that said both parts of the state have so much to offer. They have both good and bad points about them and are different. But if you can appreciate what both have to offer and not get hung up on what one has that the other doesn't and vice versa then you could easily be happy living in either area.
I love both parts of CA pretty much equally, they each offer something different from one another. |

I was born and raised in the North. It's beautiful and laid back. Now that I've been in the South for 10 years, I would never leave. It has culture, accessibility to people from all around the world, great weather and gorgeous beaches. You can find any kind of terrain within a day's drive. You can learn any art form, find any resource and make your home as loud or quiet and you want. It's the closest thing to freedom I've seen in the country. |

It's a personal preferance but to me there's no Cal like SoCal: like no Cal I know. California is about beautiful beaches, beautiful people, and living a motivated, mobile lifestyle filled with brilliant weather and 8 lanes of traffic. LA County, San Diego, and everywhere in between scream this aspect of California life. San Francisco has a lot of these things, but lacks the global appeal of greater LA.
Dare I say that Southern California is the greatest region of the greatest country in the world. In many ways Southern California is like New York City in the sense it encompasses what America is all about, although different aspects. Whoever would shun it is either an eskimo or ignorant of it's sheer beauty and opportunity. |

So, CA. Have you ever been to Tucson, AZ? I'm moving there next month and I never been to the West Coast. I was wondering if you could email me and tell me a little about it. What's the weather like in the winter and some things to do and have you been to the East part of Tucson and is it nice because that's where i'm going. Thanks |

Tough call, because the whole state is great, but I'll go with Northern. The weather isn't as good, but it's prettier.
I'll refrain from thumbs-downing all those in favor of So Cal despite the fact that someone did that to all the Nor Cal people. Geez...it's just an opinion, not a state war. |

I love both, but I was born and raised in Grass Valley, which is a nice small city about an hour northeast-ish of Sacramento. It's a wonderful place, and so is SoCal, but my heart will always be in NorCal. Plus, there are more places in SoCal that can be described as "armpits" or even "buttholes", and the farther away you can get from those places, the better. |
