If you head to Florida NOW, they are still in their off-season. Plane tickets alone to Florida will cost three people about $1000. Then you'll need to pay for accommodations, food, transportation(rental car if you're flying), and entertainment/activities. A great site for vacation rentals in Florida is VRBO.com That way you'll probably have a full kitchen, and can cook some meals in, which will save money. Marco Island is a very nice destination. Also look at Travelzoo.com, their top 20 deals. You'll have to give them your email address, but I find it's worth it. They send one email a week giving their top 20 travel deals, and some of them are incredible! Good luck, and I hope you find a great vacation!

you guys could drive down to key west, FL.
i myself have never been there but my grandparents go all the time.
It as at the very bottom of FL and has some pretty clear water and

Try Wisconsin Dells, I just went there last month. You can go for the budget you are aiming for, maybe even cheaper. They have tons of shops and museums and specialty Wisconsin Chees and Fudge. Many different amusement parks to choose from. It's really fun and not that far from where you are already!

Indiana Beach is a real fun place 2 go. Also, the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. I've been 2 both of these places for vacation and my whole family had a great time! Also, Turkey Run State Park is nice and fun 2. You can ride horses, go on a hike, and stuff. There is also an indoor and outdoor pool.

When most tourists envision Maine, the image is of coastal fishing villages, rocky island resorts and stately lighthouses. A visit to Western Maine, however, is a lake and woodland experience in a region dotted with real and fictitious sites related to novelist Stephen King.

Go to The Dominican Republic, Maybe PUERTO PLATA to one of those resorts, they are located on the ocean and have pools, saunas , gyms, dancing, shows etc.. etc.. Tickets go for about $250 oer person, less if book with more time, all inclusive resorts will provide all meals, all drinks including alcoholic and all snacks for about $30 per person per day, You can also book safaris, excursions and other activities at the resort (Such as horseback riding, scuba etc..) for an extra amount, it is relatively safe.

I would go again.

Shenandoah Valley in the mountains of Virginia is one of my most absolute favorite places to go. I have three kids of my own and they absolutely love it there. It can be inexpensive depending on what you want to do when you get there. I would definitely go again! I've attached a link for a place with log cabins. The views are absolutely breathtaking and the leaves changing in the fall just add to the beauty. As for things to do there's the Luray Caverns, horseback riding, hiking trails and lots of other fun things to do there. I live in Virginia so I wouldn't know much about the travel expenses. Good Luck To You!!!

hawaii is nice and during off season you can get good hotel deals, but the flight would probably put you over your budget you are looking at. I fly for free so I have no clue what a flight would cost, but I would recommend American over any other airline
Have you considered going to Mexico or someplace like that?
Cruises are good, you can also get good cruise rates during off season, like right now you can get a 5 night cruise for about 400 a person and its totally worth it and your meals are included. And they have different things for all ages.

Sedona, AZ is a BEAUTIFUL place to go. Tons of hiking, etc. The views will take your breath away. Pretty much every place has a pool there.

I live in California. The water is always too cold if you ask me. I hate the ocean. Well, I love to LOOK at the ocean, but I won't go in it. I've lived here all my life. I'd rather swim in a heated salt water swimming pool. Now, the water in Hawaii is warm. It's also warm in Cabo San Lucas (Mexico).

I don't know. If I was planning to vacation somewhere, I'd go to Sedona.

Hi HaTeR!
I live in CA and I love it here, just love it. I'm from Santa Rosa, just 40 minutes from San Francisco and only 30 minutes from the world famous Bodega Bay, (where Alfred Hitchcock shot the Birds). Bodega Bay is the stretch of beautiful beaches that lines the northern bay area to the Pacific Ocean.
Also, nearby (about 25 minutes) is the beautiful Napa Valley famous for its wine and vineyards. The Napa Valley also has a lot of old, antique buildings.
From what you've said I think San Francisco would be good, its everything you need in one city! Beaches, tons of history and old antique buildings, museams, zoos, a lot of shopping, fresh sea food at anytime of the day and amazing views!
I wouldn't need and airplane, but you would as you're coming from IL, I highly recommend Virgin Airlines, excellent customer service, very smooth flights, and top of the line personal entertainment systems. I've flown with them every 2 weeks back and fourth to Vegas for work, and I wouldn't want to fly with any other airline especially Delta, they're the worst.

One of my favorite places is Maui. I've been there three times and would gladly go again. Airfares to Hawaii were extremely high after ATA and Aloha Airlines went out of business, but they're starting to come back down. Fares to Honolulu, Oahu are now as low as $389. I'm not sure what the current fare is to Kahului, Maui, but you might be able to get there for under $500 per person, depending on where you live. If you go there, Kihei is a nice relatively inexpensive place to stay and there are lots of reasonably priced rental condos. I highly recommend the following sights and activities:
- Road trip to Hana
- A visit to Lahaina (a scenic old whaling town with great restaurants and Hawaii's largest banyan tree)
- The Maui Ocean Center, one of the best aquariums I've ever visited.
- Snorkeling at Molokini Crater
- Driving up Haleakala, a 10,000-foot volcano, or bicycling down it if you're more adventurous
- Beaches, of course. There are some great beaches on the southwest coast between Kihei and Makena. The water is warm enough to swim in even in the winter. I was there in February once and the water was only three to five degrees cooler than it is in the summer.

Other great places:

San Diego -- has Seaworld, Balboa Park, a world-class zoo, the historic Old Town, and many other attractions.

San Francisco -- The Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, cable cars, sightseeing and great seafood restaurants at Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39

Miami -- I haven't been there, but I've heard that the beaches are great and the water is much warmer than it is around California.

Key West -- I haven't been there either, but I've heard it's more laid back than Miami and very scenic, great for snorkeling and diving.

The ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao) -- Caribbean islands you can visit any time of year because they're outside the hurricane belt

I would go to Myrtle Beach, SC or like Hilton Head, SC... Both places are really great and both have AMAZING beautiful beaches. The hotels are relatively inexpensive. I stayed at the Landmark Resort recently in Myrtle Beach and it was a great place to stay, clean, and relatively cheap. The hotel has a ton of pools (both indoor and outdoor), a place for mini-golf, a lazy river pool and other things like that. It is pretty incredible and is almost always pretty warm there. I think all 3 members of your family will have fun. They have a pretty good water park there that isn't too expensive, and they have Hard Rock Park which is supposed to be a pretty cool theme park! I hope that helps!

Wait til hurricane season is over and go on a Carribean cruise.

It's about 300 a person (out of season) and all food and drinks are included(except alcohol)

Also, you can stop at either 2 or 3 places depending on how long your cruise is. It's like 4 vacations in one!!!

OK, I've been to Key West, FL when I was 15 and it was fun. Great place with ocean during the day and the nightlife of live music, great restaurants, bike/scooter rentals, jet ski rentals, sailing/diving expeditions to the reef, etc. I remember having a great time there.
Another idea is to go on a cruise. The two that I recommend are Royal Caribbean and Carnival. They have 3 - 14 night excursions and you can relax on the deck, soak in one of the many pools, get off the boat and go sightseeing in the port of call, or just sit in your room(not recommended) the whole time.
So those are my two recommendations. To find out the cost, because I don't remember, go to one of the cruise websites or search Key West, Florida on the web to find inexpensive accomodations and activities.
Good luck and have fun on your family vacation!

Water country Virginia Beach, Virginia is a great place.
Ive been 2x already and it's really awesome. Great rides and a big wave pool :D Not as far as florida is (you know with gas prices soaring, and therefor causing airplane ticket prices to go up.)
Plus Virginia beach.. has a beach (next to an ocean[duh])
A 16 hour drive for me (from TN), so must be shorter for you.
http://www.watercountryusa.com/wc/pi_directions.aspx

Another great place is Six flags St. Louis Misouri. It's right under your state, so not far at all. 6 hour drive for me ( so maybe 2/2.5 hours for ya?)
http://www.sixflags.com/stLouis/index.aspx

I absolutly loved both places and of course I would love to go again!!!
Both places fun for both young and old.
You can find ticket prices on the websites.

Good luck! :D

If you really want Disney World, they are offering great deals for their value resorts..sometimes you can even get free dining! You get a park hopper ticket which will cover Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, and Blizard Beach and Typhon Lagoon water parks. It is off season until end of October so there are great deals to be had. In fact, we're going there in four days!

Las Vegas is usually cheap. Though you may lose some money gambling.

Cancun.

Another great way is to call a travel agent, tell them how many people, when and how much you have to spend..

Fly to the Florida Keys. It is beautiful there... try and stay in a KOA which is a state park they have cabins for rent and they are normally air conditioned and always right on the beach. Since it's a state park they are not very expensive. Search on Priceline and Orbitz.com for plane tickets. The KOA parks are great because they have huge clean bathrooms with showers and they have heated pools and a little restaraunt in the park for breakfasts and stuff.
