People think Detroit is sooo bad. True it's not perfect. It's just like ANYother large city.?

Okay, Detroits neighborhoods are in very bad shape and are in need of repair. Downtown Detroit is not bad at all, this is the area that is experiencing somewhat of a revival. Lofts, aparments, hotel and resturants are popping up all over Downtown. While Downtown may be on the upswing, it is stupid to compare it to Chicago, New York, or L.A. the only thing Detroit should be comparing itself to at the moment is itself. Detroit now and then...we have a lot to improve on before we start mentioning other citys.

Secondly, I hear a lot of gripe about the local government in Detroit. I currently live in the suburbs and am planning to move Downtown in the next couple of years. If anyone has a problem with the government you NEED to do 2 things. One is move into the city, two is vote them out of office. People in this area are constanly complaining about the city but it seems that barely anybody is doing anything about it. EVERYONE in this area needs to realize that Detroit makes and breaks all of Southeastern Michigan. The repuation itself is a good example. As of right now I dont live in the city but when ever I travel i am linked to the place becuse its the nearest major city. I sometimes feel downgraded when I explain to people I live outside of Detroit.

This message is to everyone, if you truly care about whats going on around here, then take a stand and do something about it.

I have two words that sums up Detroit- Coleman Young! That man destroyed Detroit all those years he was in office. I have lived in a number of large cities and all of them had a nightlife. The day time also had many places to visit. Yet I moved back here to live. Oh,well.

I have never feared for my life while in Chicago, Boston, or Denver. Detroit is a scary place during the day and the night is just plain terrifying. There is no comparison between it and most other large cities.

have you seen detroit pull together? I have and it's the best thing i have ever seen!

Detroit is not like any other cities in the United States and is not like cities in the Midwest. Take for example Chicago and Detroit. Chicago and Detroit are both in the Midwest but there are major differences between Chicago and Detroit. I am just going to list three;

1. Although both cities have crime, Detroit has a much higher crime rate than Chicago and Chicago has over 2.8 million residents.

2. City Government. The city government of Detroit is too corrupt and the reason why nothing gets accomplished is because they expect the government is going to deliver and when the fail to deliver, citizens get angry. In Chicago, the city will do their part to help the citizens but if citizens do not act, city government cannot assist.

3. Saturday Nights. Although both Chicago and Detroit have activities taking place on the Saturday Nights, Chicago is vibrant while Detroit is Dead unless there is a special event in town . In Chicago, there is plenty to see and do in Chicago on the weekends and it is safe to walk around.

My point is, not all cities in America can be compared to Detroit. Detroit has been on the decline since the late 1960s and does not want to improve while other major US Cities do their part by making sure that city government and citizens work together to bring progress and change.

I live in the Metro Detroit area and I traveled to Manhattan
I found so many interesting restaurants, , attractions, museums, Central Park, ALL within walking distance of my Hotel OR I was able to take their mass transit so I could accomplish my wants
I actually felt more comfortable walking around in NY due to all the Police standing around or walking
"our" police ride around in their cars and are not as accessible as NY finest were

I'd never walk around Belle Isle at night as I could Central Park

I understand that if nothing happens to you its nice. But, it does have the second highest crime rate.

Detroit is really bad. I'm from Brooklyn & I'm moved to Detroit to be with my husband. I was so happy to leave that city. That city has nothing good going for it.

The media portrays Detroit as a gray cold winter year-long city. When in actuality Detroit truly is like a 1956 cherry red Cadillac coupe De ville. Stately, and elegant! Due to it's history it has some eye-sores but over-all it's a beauty second to none! Great place, and the only way to find out is to visit!
However I live in a very affulent suburb of Detroit and I stayed in Chicago for a couple of days, and I noticed that EVERY single business, home, and facility has iron bars on EVERY window!! I was there for only a short amout of time when I got back to my hotel room and turned on the news and 7 people were killed right on State st. with in the last three hours!
I also visited New York and many of the Buroughs. I REFUSED to step out into any of those nieghbor hoods until I got back to my hotel room. My Taxi fare was through the roof!!
One of the worst possible cities EVER!! Dope man on every corner a sea of pregnant 15-year-olds, and any other possible freak you can think of.
Detroit only has the title of second most dangerous city due to its small population. For example if the homocide ratio in Detroit was 4:9 it would seem more, than a larger population such as Dallas which would be like 8:19. Theres still more killing in Dallas, but since the population is so grand the scale won't show that Dallas has twice as many homocides than Detroit
