I loved NY but I also love the areas that you might call a "dump". Best city I ever lived in just really expensive. |

I have not been for 30 years but it is a magical place. You must go to Broadway, and the Empire State building and Manhattan and eat pizza along Broadway, and watch them throw the pizza dough and go to Madison Square and shopping at Macy's and of course, stay at the Manhattan Hilton! Take lots and lots of Travelers checks, things are expensive! |

I was born and raised in NY infact I have lived here all my life and I love it here but that depends on the person. Yes we have a crowded subway system and yeah there are some dumpy looking places but we have a great places too as well as a great night life and shopping areas. Real estate is expensive but when you lived here all of your life it's normal for you(it's not until you hear it from someone who doesn't live here that you realize it's true) I could go on and on Email me if you want to know more about my great city. |

I went myself about a month ago and it really is amazing! I really want to go back, i miss it so much. You need so much time to do everything. Its not a dump at all, it has bad parts like anywhere does and wouldn't want to be alone at night in quiet parts, but if you stay around places like times square then its magical and really is the city that never sleeps. If you want to make the most out of it then see a travel agents, we used first choice, and they can give you a list of things to book up before you go, such as seeing a show or helicopter rides. watch out for the drivers though they are a bit mad! You dont need to stay in an expensive hotel to have a good time, but def take lots of spending money. New york has so much history and its exciting recognising places used in films. The best way to get around and find things is on foot and cheaper too, just have a map with you, its really easy to get around. If you want to go downtown then the subway is best. Im blabbing on really, but it really was so exciting being there, i didn't want to come home. You need to find out for yourself really, then you can make your own opinion |

I LOVE LOVE LOVE NYC. It's the best place to visit if you're into tourism and not beachy stuff. I travel there at least once a year. I wrote up a great review that would be helpful to anyone traveling there. Post back if you'd like me to email it to you!
But of course, there are some dumpy neighborhoods. I would stay in Manhattan and just do some research. |

You need to start dong some research on this city. It has become my #1 city to visit (previously it was San Fran). I just can't get enough of it. I just got back a few weeks ago and have already booked a flight to return this summer for almost a week. I love NYC - Manhattan (and not just Times Square) is such a great place to experience. I hope to see more of the area (the Bronx, etc.) this next time. You just need to go and see it for yourself. Just be cautious because if you look like a tourist, you may very well be taken advantage of and you don't want to look like a target. Just take a cue from the New Yorkers and you'll do just fine and you'll love it. |

All major cities in the western world have nice bits in the middle. But you don't have to travel far to see crime and poverty. |

one word....... Spectacular.......
It really does go 24-7 and is like a woman on heat..... compelling, inviting and immensely beautiful.....
And despite the hustle and bustle of the life style, everyone has time for others and is polite and welcoming..... |

It is a great place to visit - expensive though. There are dumpy parts, but as a tourist you likely won't see them. The parts that used to be scary are trendy and rich now. |

I visited NYC for the first time in the begining of April & I AM IN LOOOVE! I desperately want to move there now, though sadly, I don't think my boyfriend is willing=(.
I will say that the one thing that surprised me the most was how NORMAL, & FRIENDLY most New Yorkers were. Not that they're all mean, but jaded I always thought. Some were, but most were outragously nice.
I noticed that it seems the garbage is taken out/picked up 2x or so a day & if your out walking the streets (JUST at these times from my experience) it IS stinky, & there are large piles of trash- but MOST of the day- no.
It honestly is soooo beautiful & I think another poster said it best when they said "magical"... |

NYC is the furthest thing from a dump if you stay away from the bad areas. Certain parts of the Bronx you wouldnt want to be in any time of day.
But I walk around by myself in Manhattan all the time, and its the best place in the world to be. |
