The White House is in Washington, DC.

Washington DC, originally named the District of Columbia, is a city on the Atlantic Coast, between the states of Virginia and Maryland. This spot was chosen to be the National Capitol because it was centrally located among the original colonies. It wasn't named Washington until long after President Washington died.

The state of Washington (became a state in 1889) is on the Pacific Coast, north of California and Oregon.

Both the City and the State were eventually named after our first president, George Washington.

"Hi"..... I'm a Canadian so I hope you don't mind if I answer this question !

Firstly I am going to give you a map of North America and if you look way, way, way to the West you'll see the "State of Washington" just below Canada , and in particular just below the Province of British Columbia !

If you now look way ,way ,way to the East you'll see where "Washington D.C." (District of Columbia) is ...two completely distinct places ! *S*

http://www.geographicguide.com/north-america-map.htm

Washington, the District, or simply D.C.on the East Coast is the capital of the United States, founded on July 16, 1790 and that's where the White House is located .

The reason for this is that Article One of the United States Constitution provides for a federal district, "DISTINCT FROM THE STATES", to serve as the permanent national capital and that is why it's called a "District" and is not actually a "State" ! It is the only area within the Continental United States that is not actually a State.

I personally thought your question was sincere and honest .

Hope that helps ya and we're all on a "learning curve" ...always ! *S* (Michael C...)

The White House is in Washington D.C. It is not in a state it is it's own district hence why it is called Washington D.C. (the DC stands for District of Columbia). The District of Columbia is looks like it is in the state of Maryland but it isn't, it just borders Maryland

check out these site for more information.

Washington, DC (a city) is the US Capital and home to the White House, US Capital Building, and other government institutions. It is commonly called Washington without using the DC or more properly the District of Columbia (DC). It is a Federal District and not part of any state.

There is also a US State called Washington, which is nearly 3000 miles away in the Pacific Northwest part of the US

Have to correct a few incorrect dates here. President Washington was born in 1732 and passed away in 1799, not 1797 as stated earlier. But 1797 is an important date in the history of the US - it is the date Washington went from being President to become a Former President.

Washington DC is where the white house is,
Washington is on the West coast, while DC is on the East.

The White House is in the capital of the United States, Washington D.C. (the DC stands for District of Columbia). There is also a Washington state on the west coast of the United States.

"It wasn't named Washington until long after President Washington died."

The City of Washington was named in 1791... President Washington died in 1799. Somebody's math is way off.

Washington DC is a small area around the state of Virgina which serves as our nation's capital. The White House is located here, as well as Congress, the Supreme Court, and other government bodies. It is also holds several monuments and museams.

Washington state is an entirelly different place on the West Coast. They just both happen to be named after George Washington, our first president.

Hope this helps you out.
