Both are great places to live, but I would have to say SF. The food is great, and so is the weather. It is a bit easier to live in SF, given the scale and population density. I grew up in NYC and then moved to the Bay Area, so I have a good sense of both places and I love them both!

I personally prefer San Francisco. It is a breathtaking city and the Pacific Ocean look sooo much more beautiful than the Atlantic. San Francisco is a more manageable city than New York, which can feel a bit overwhelming and crowded frequently. The mass transit in both cities is great but NYC takes the cake on that. Some parts of San Francisco take a long time to get to (like the richmond district) but it is OK, you can still get there. The downtown skyscraper part is perfectly sized and outside are many different and diverse neighborhoods that have singles, families, couples, and everything. The laid back attitude and the very liberal thought of San Francisco really appeals to me (im gay too, btw I dont think the people there are "strange").

San Francisco also has the perfect weather for me. It is never hot and is always chilly and sometimes cold. In New York it is scorchingly hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter and the in-between seasons dont last long enough.

I LOVE New York. I also LOVE San Francisco. It really comes down to the weather and the beauty of the city for me to like San Francisco a tad more.

I would totally avoid both. Give me a small town in middle america anyday.

It is whaever you want from the city.
Having been to both, I give it to SF

SAN FRANCISCO is the best!!!!!!!!!

julie
san francisco. how can you refuse the lovely pacific. in san francisco anyone is accepted. i live near there myself. i find the pacific WAAAY better than the atlantic. shopping is better. food options are endless. not aas much traffic. lovely little houses and lots of famous fun places to visit. not as cold of winters at all!

--» I think those people who said New York has no earthquakes are really stupid. Every single place in the world has natural disasters that they`re vulnerable to, and New York has blizzards, which is much worse than earthquakes. Most earthquakes in San Francisco don`t last that long and do barely ANY damage.

I`ve been to New York City. The place was DIRTY everywhere. I saw mice in the subway. The traffic was horrible. I have no idea what people mean by San Francisco having "strange" people. Like New York doesn`t have weirdos. New York City`s crime rate is higher.

San Francisco is located in the Bay Area. San Francisco has many famous landmarks: Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, Coit Tower, Chinatown, cable cars. San Francisco is famous for its hills. Some neighborhoods are named after the hill on which they are situated, including Nob Hill, Pacific Heights, Russian Hill, Potreo Hill, and Telegraph Hill.

There are many places you can go:

Fisherman's Wharf

Japantown

Casto District (Eureka Valley)

Famous "Painted Ladies" in Alamo Square. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/cc/Painted_Ladies.jpg

Ocean Beach

Baker Beach

Golden Gate Park Conservatory of Flowers

Japanese Tea Garden

Strybing Arboretum

War Memorial and Performing Arts Center

War Memorial Opera House includes the San Francisco Opera and San Francisco Ballet

The San Francisco Symphony plays in Davies Symphony Hall.

Herbst Theatre

The American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.)

San Francisco frequently hosts national touring productions of Broadway theatre shows in a number of vintage 1920s-era venues in the Theater District including the Curran, Orpheum, and Golden Gate Theatres.

Muesem of Modern Art

Palace of the Legion of Honor

De Young Museum

Asian Art Museum

Palace of Fine Arts

San Francisco Zoo cares for about 250 animal species and 39 of them are endangered or threatened.

Sounds like food is very important to you.
I am in Astoria..we have great food here...
NY is better because we do not have eathquakes

jennnn.
new york<3 it's the absolute best.
nothing can compare.
it's got history, celebs, love&PLENTY of security.

you need to choose your decision on what is important to you. Your description included food, transportation, people, living costs, schools, etc so choose if the food & transportation & is important to you than go to ny but if the society, culture, and food in sf is of importance to you..go to sf. good luck..either city is amazing!!

San Fran is a little more cleaner than New york.

New york is definitely more convenient and perhaps a little less prone to earthquakes . The winters are a bit colder but much many more things to do in New york than San Fran.

New York, San Fran is where a lot of strange people are nothing wrong with the city just some crazy folks live there

I love NY.

I've never been to San Fran. I'd love to visit (mostly for food), but don't want to live there--EARTHQUAKES.

Two of my favorite things about NY are the great public transit & the ability to travel 15-30 mins in any directions & feel like you're in a whole different country. I know SF is very diverse, too--but as diverse as NY?

Kim W
I've been to both New York city and San Francisco. I hated San Francisco, it was soo dirty, and there were a lot of homeless people. New York city is also dirty in some places, but I don't know. It was better because of the stores and shops and restaurants.

Neither, Chicago is the best big city in the USA.

2 baseball teams
Midwestern values, but big city amenities
Mile of beaches you can actually swim at
More golf than you could imagine
Reasonable housing costs
Great public transportation systems
Country's tallest building soon to have world's tallest building
Great museums
Great sports facilities
All 4 seasons
The Magnificent Mile
Great restaurants of any style
People are friendly
We put our garbage in back alleys unlike NY who puts it on the sidewalk in front of fine restaurants (yuck)
Wide streets and sidewalks

M
I live in NYC my whole life
so def NYC
what i love about this place is that there are great food
i'm in love with new york pizza, it's the best
but mostly what i love so much about this place is that people are not afraid to tell you how the feel
no one lies to you and if the taxi driver feels like giving you the finger and cursing you off i like that better than him bulls***ing me

Gabby
NYC.
ive never been to san fran but everytime i went to cali it was always just dirty out, i dont understand why.

and plus i just love new york city.

(haha and it seems like everyone disagrees with me. oh well.)

repentant sinner
Neither. I prefer to live in a free society. The thought of allowing a city government control every aspect of my life through gun bans and any other feel good legislation sickens me. Hopefully, sometime in the future California, New York, Illinois and the other socialist states in America will be separated from the rest of the U.S. where freedom is God-given and not allotted by governmental hypocrisy.
