Chris:
RELAX! Do not panic.
Yes, we know you live somewhere between Houston and Galveston.
You have all week to prepare, and all week to find out just where Ike will go. In the meantime, don't lose sleep over it. We don't know what category it will be rated or if it will EVEN HIT HERE. It is way too soon to tell.
Look here:
http://www.ktrh.com/pages/weather.html
You'll see the three evacuation zones. If you're in one of them then you'll know if you need to go IF Ike comes here, depending on the strength.
It is still WAY TOO EARLY to tell. So far, the track has shifted numerous times to the west and to the south. It COULD continue to do that.
In the meantime, it couldn't hurt to follow that page's link for assembling a hurricane kit (which your family should already have).
Above all, stop getting keyed up and think clearly and logically. You'll be fine if you keep your head about you. |

all of that is too early to predict. Just stayed tuned to the news stations in the area for daily updates. It's still at least 5 days out and still hasn't entered the gulf. |

well all i know is i don't have enough money to try and evacuate...i just put my last 20 bucks in the tank which makes it half full. I live in texas city...right here near galveston. I am going to get water, spagettios, and pop-tarts at walmart today when i get off and then we are gonna bunker down for the weekend. it'll be alright =P

The previous answers are all good ones.
I will not evacuate again. I lived through Andrew on Harbour Island and it was preferable to that horrible 15 hour nightmare evacuation to Austin before Rita.
If you are worried, make a reservation in Austin, San Antonio or wherever you want to evacuate to, you can always cancel it if Ike turns away from us. |

Dunno. The storm could change path, strenghten, weaken. It's too early to say. Keep watching the news or your local weather channel. |

I would wait and see where its going to make landfall. I live in Beaumont and I'm just waiting it out. I'm tired of evacuating, it
's getting quite expensive!! |

I live in Houston :( , and it might hit as a 4 or a strong 3. I might evacuate, not sure. But you might want to though. |

You should watch the news and listen to local officals. They will know better than anybody on Yahoo Answers!!!! Do you live in an evacuation zone? Most parts of Houston are not in an evacuation zone. Below is the map of the areas that maybe evacuated if Ike comes to the Housotn/Galveston area. |

Its gonna get Houston directly or indirectly, Ike will probably Cat 3 or 4 when it hits making many Houstonians go into depression and lowering home prices even lower. California the richest state in the Union said it would loan Texas Economic help. |

Right now the projected path has it hitting the Corpus Christi area, but that could easily change. I haven't heard any projections going higher than cat 3 or 4 so it looks like it won't be a monster. However, you should definitely keep an eye on it and be preparing in case he changes paths and you would need to evacuate.
An easy way to track Ike is with http://www.USAMediaGuide.com. It has a special section of links to:
--Ike's projected path
--National Hurricane Center and local news coverage
--hurricane preparation tips
--live streaming webcams
--ready.gov and the Red Cross
--other Ike-related stuff. |

Chill man. It's too soon to tell. I am so sick of all this hurricane media hype. I agree it's good to prepare but GOD! First Eduard didn't hit Houston and neither did Gustav. Those damn news people have nothing to do but talk about possible damage by hurricanes for the last 3 years!!!! ENOUGH already! |

No. But I can see you're hoping for Houston to have media attention. |
