If you can't hang w/ the residents, I suggest staying in Canada. Keep in mind that the biggest jerks aren't even from CA, they're posers from other states thinking that's what we're about.

For a number of reasons, we get a bunch of questions asking what it’s really like in Los Angeles.

First of all, I'll tell you what it's NOT like: It's not like anything on TV. People watch shows on TV and think that’s what it’s like out here. The “Real OC”, Newport Beach, The Hills, etc. Ever wonder why people in those shows never have to pay bills, do laundry, and are NEVER stuck in traffic? Because it’s FAKE. And the news doesn’t help either, since they know that sex and sensationalism sells. News flash: There aren’t running gun battles in the street. There aren’t shootouts every day. Also, you don’t see celebrities just walking down the street, all glammed up, or sipping a cappuccino at Starbucks waiting to sign autographs. We don't go surfing during lunch hour.

Some sections are REALLY nice, others are “ghetto”. Too many people have this vision in their head that LA is one or the other (either Beverly Hills or Compton). They either think LA is a fairy tale fantasy or an apocalyptic ghetto. In fact, most of it is working class and middle class stiffs working to pay the bills. Like me.

However, it is not for everyone. Some people never even visit, and hate it on principle and stereotypes. Some actually visited once, and found out it wasn’t like it was on TV, and it certainly wasn’t Mayberry. And some actually lived here, and couldn’t deal with the expense, the traffic, or the somewhat impersonal nature of living in a large metropolis.

That's all it is. It's just different from where you're from. I don't think people mean to be rude, they're just indifferent. And in a large city with that many people, they just don't have time to stop and strike up a conversation.

As for visiting LA, I try to be a good ambassador, and help out people who are obviously not from here. But it's going to be different here. It's just a different way of life.

LA is a horrible, disgusting place ( I lived in all parts of LA, long beach, IE, san bernardino, so cal)

If you don't know your people or your way around, expect tremendous stress and headaches, 80% are assholes and discourteous/rude/ignorant and the people you do find to help you often don't have the time of day. Even the clean looking people or unsuspecting person cant be trusted, anyone and everyone is out to get something, everyone is out for themselves basically in so-cal.

The drivers are HORRIBLE mostly immigrants and women, they drive like maniacs, expect accidents on the major freeways daily, even hourly. expect to see horrible horrible immigrant problems, ppl selling you flowers or nasty fruit without food permits or Business licenses. you can get almost anything bootleg in downtown LA.

NOW don't get me wrong, there are the little clusters of safe haven communities or track housing or gated communities for the rich and famous, or wealthy middle class. there are nice people as well as bad ones every where you go, but in LA its just so much more obvious and easily identifiable.

Ive lived in california 80% of my life, i know norcal as good as socal. Ive seen many faces, met many people, seen many things....

I love california, it is my true home, but we have to admit, we are a fu*ked up bunch down here lol. Its entertaining if y ou get over the shock and disgust.

you will only have to do this if it comes up as something you want to do.

LA is generally filled with nice people (compared with some east coast cities), as long as you're not driving. They all drive like maniacs.

Beverly Hills can be snooty. If you want nicer people, check out West Hollywood, Venice, Hermosa Beach, Culver City, Santa Monica (to a certain extent). But, as always, you get what you give. Just stay off the roads.

I hate to say this, but LA isn't exactly a glamorous place. Not even Hollywood is great. If you go to Beverly Hills, it will be a nicer place. Take this from someone who has been to LA.

Well I don't live in L.A, I live in texas. But L.A seems nice. To be honest I kind of want to move there. It seems like a place to have fun.
Go for it!
