If you are 16, you can't legally own one anyway. If you are caught by police that is a weapons violation and it'll probably just escalate.
A gun (purchased legally) is about $319 for a reasonable caliber (anything less is probably not very effective), but then you can buy a bullet-proof vest for $300.
If you feel unsafe, buy the vest. Of course, in some counties only a defendant can wear one legally.
Remember, a gun doesn't reduce the chance of trouble, it just gives you an option if trouble should occur, but that's a very vague option. The best precaution is to remain aware of who is around you, and pay attention to every car that hear coming up behind you. |

Having a gun will most likely only find you in more trouble.
In a bad situation if you show your gun, the situation will escalate to something much worse.
1) Your gun is taken from you and used against you.
2) They pull a gun because you did and you get shot.
3) You might also shoot an innocent bystander.
4) You shoot someone and spend a lot of time in jail. You also don't want murder or a serious injury on your conscience for the rest of your life.
5) Some day you might be very angry and not be able to think straight, with a gun available you could make a very bad decision.
6) Plus you don't want to fall into a negative stereotype.
7) Carrying a gun will lead you on a path that you don't want to travel.
These are very important days in your life because you are shaping your future. If you can just stay out of trouble and pursue bettering yourself through education you WILL escape South Central to a better life. I guarantee it.
You are the only one who can guide yourself to a better life. |

No do not get one. They are too dangerous and you could 1. accidentaly shoot yourself or 2. get caught by the cops and put in jail. or 3. accidentaly kill someone else and be put in jail for the rest of your life!!! Don't get one!!!!!!!!! |

The cops out there would really assume, that you're either a gang member or a gang banger, they sure will lock you up if you are caught on the streets with it. My best advice discuss this situation with your parents, aunts, uncles or older members of the family. |

My personal opinion is that since you are only 16, you should wait for a few years before you get a gun. I don't think its even legal for a 16 year old to carry a gun. |

I suggest............ Stay where you are and since you are age 16, that means you are able to work.........Go get a part time job and help pay your stay with Grandma! Oh, and if your brother is older....he should do the same.

honestly i really don't think you should carry a gun with you... because if you get caught with one you will get screw over by the cops... and if you use it.... it can cause serious damage.. and i don't think you want to go to jail right..... well if you want protect yourself i suggest pepper spray... trust me it works i live in a really f.u.c.k.e.d up neighborhood... and it's bad there like always shoot outs... but any ways carry pepper spray with you or a taser.... i also carry one of those... but let me just say be careful and don't be dumb by caring a gun... please |

If you're 16 it is illegal to own a gun. Having one doesn't mean you're safe anyway. If you get in a problem & someone sees it - including the cops - they're liable to shoot first out of panic. Forget about the gun. This is why so many young people in America are dead right now. The reality of shooting someone or being shot is NOTHING like TV or the movies. Also, if someone takes it away from you and shoots you it would have been better to avoided the whole thing. Guns are for one thing - KILLING - end of story. If you try to scare someone with a gun they're liable to have one too and you've just given them the perfect reason to take your life. PLEASE, for your own sake, forget about the gun. |

I would just surround myself with people your cousin knows...or some friends from school.
try not to put yourself in bad situations...and try to stay away from those you know who will cause you problems...or people your cousin knows that causes problems...
but if the crime is high in that area...i would prob get a gun...
like a small hand gun...and wouldnt be too flashy about it...that would bring on some serious trouble...like jail time.
