Should I gamble in Vegas?

I'm goin to Vegas this weekend for my brothers bachelor party. Should I gamble while I'm there, or just drink and meet pretty girls? Gonna be a blast by the way! wooooo!

First, congrats to your brother. May his marriage be a long and happy one!

As far as gambling in Vegas, my advice is to go for it, but with some friendly advice.

Set yourself a limit for how much you're going to spend and stick to that limit no matter what. It's very easy to hit a bad streak and reach that limit and say "if I go a little longer, it'll turn around." That's the absolute worst thing you can do, because odds are it won't turn around and you'll be hitchhiking home.

If you feel uncomfortable with the amount you're betting, then don't bet it. You won't be relaxed - you're there to have fun, remember! - and you won't be able to think through things like you should.

Don't be afraid to get up and watch how other people are playing for a while. Obviously, you're not there to offer advice, but as long as you maintain a polite distance and just observe, there's usually not a problem. Of course, group venues, like the craps table or the roulette table, are more suitable to this.

Finally, there's nothing wrong with drinking and meeting pretty girls. Just be careful how much you drink, because those girls might end up being prettier than they really are, and don't mix the drinking and gaming too much. The casinos *love* drunk gamers. It's like free money to them.

Whatever you finally decide to do, have a blast! Woooooo!

Don't drink and don't gamble. You can still meet pretty girls.

Gartenzwerg
No, just throw your money out the window on your way there so you dont waste time and you have more time to drink with pretty girls.
Or girls you thought were pretty cause you had too much to drink.

Jo
Sounds like you are going to have a great time whether you decide to gamble or not. If you are going to gamble, however, why not set aside a set amount of money; say $25 or $50 bucks...or the amount you can afford to lose...and gamble until it runs out. Then just consider that part of the entertainment of Vegas. Have fun!

no dont do it! your chances of loosing your money are greater than the chances of winning!

A look at ceasar's or the bellagio should give you a pretty good idea of who's winning 99% of the games in vegas. If you want to donate to multi-million dollar hotels though, don't let me stop you!

bigrob
Don't gamble. Keep your money for the pretty girls. Buy them dinner. I bet you will have a better time with them than a few minutes at a table handing your money over to the casino.

Only if you don't mind losing your money, I'd stick to the chicks.

Don't gamble unless you know what you are doing...in which case you wouldn't gamble. The vast majority of games have huge house advantages over the player. Learn the games before you go to decrease those odds and increase the chance of holding on to your money a bit longer. Don't have the idea that you will leave Vegas richer than when you showed up...it doesn't work that way. In every game you can play, the house has the advantage. If you play long enough, you will lose all of your money. That is not a fun thing considering what else you could have done with it.

Have fun anyway.

Personally, I think of gambling as just another kind of entertainment.
Not a way to make money.
If you think of it that way, you'll be okay.
Remember that the odds are always stacked in the "house"s favor and in the long run, you'll almost always lose big time if you keep playing.

I usually take about 10 or 20 bucks with me so that's all I can spend and when it's gone, I do something else. I'm usually bored by that time anyway.

I try to play the cheapest slot machines (there used to be nickel slots) so I get to play longer for the same amount of money.

It's also fun to just watch people who are gambling and observe their behavior and think about the psychology of it.

Have a good time. If you have the profile of a compulsive gambler, you won't be able to avoid going through crap with it one way or another so don't worry about it.
Just watch how much you spend.

Yes, you should do everything that people on here tell you to do. That would officially make you a loser.
