He can make a lot of money there in his trade, and believe it or not, Las Vegas isn't all Casinos and strip clubs. The schools there are very good, it could be a great place to raise a family. Think about living in Summerlin, Henderson, or Green Valley instead of the city though.

Vegas is a city like no other. In my opinion, not the best place to raise a family. It is where people go to live without inhibition. If you want your children exposed to that, then, more power to you. Also, the real estate market there has been falling like crazy due to rate hikes and increased supply. Lastly, the weather is awful, as it hits about 115 during the summer months (May through September). I would consider a city such as Austin, Charlotte or even San Diego, mainly because of the affordability, kindness of the people and the fact that the housing markets there have not experienced such an overwhelming boom - thus they are not falling as quickly as Vegas, LA, Boston, etc... I would strongly recommend that you don't move there, it's one of the worst places to live, especially when it comes to raising children, it is absolutely the worst, have you ever heard of sin city? That's what Vegas is, a nasty place all together, full of sleezy people, prostitution, everything and anything goes, you find the worst people there, drunks, addicts, sex, drugs the creme of the crop, or should I say the cream of the crap?

I would never visit Las Vegas, much less live there, last time I visited was about 7 years ago, and I told myself that was the last,
the weather is horrendous, do you want to live in a 118 degree weather during summer and extreme cold during winter, it's a desert, but besides that, there is a lot of nasty women, prostitution, stippers, and it is decadent, there are many other places you could move to, even Los Angeles, or Orange County, Oregon, Seattle, anywhere but there, I truly feel you would really regreat it, and why put your husband through many temptations looking at other women who are half dressed or half naked. Think about it.

Personally I think you should take some time before deciding to move. First off Vegas is not the best place to be raising your childern so if you do move for the sake of work try to find some place a little better. Second I moved from MI to MA about a 1 1/2 ago. My fiance and I where worried about the slow work also so we moved out here cause I thought that the work oppotunities would be better. But to tell the truth it's just as slow out here. So it may not be worth uprooting your family.

Many families just like yours live in Las Vegas. You do not have to go anywhere near the strip if you don't want to. It's like any other big city; you can ignore the attractions if you want. It is an up and coming area and your husband would probably do very well in LV.

I lived there for 5 years in the 80"s, which were my twenties.
I worked with both young children and teens, went to community college and attended church. I wasn't into the wild side either and focused on the family aspect of living there. There were a lot of military families and there was a huge population boom even then. During that time period, they were trying to make the strip more family friendly, but I don't believe that is their focus now.
So I do think you have to make friends fast and be creative with activities, to keep the kids entertained. I moved back to my home state of Minnesota, and I do preferr it to Las Vegas, although our winters here have me question that on occasion!

living here for 7 years one thing i can say is that vegas is not a family friendly city. not trying to be negative here. it just isn't. on the other hand if your husband is an electrician there is plenty of work to be found here.

I lived in Vegas 3 x during the summer months. I really liked it. Vegas is better on the outskirts, not close to the casinos. Because not every body who
lives there gambles, etc. You just have to be careful what sort of neighbor-
hood you'll be moving into. The college out there is really good. And Vegas is
a friendly city, it's not to expensive depending on ur income. The Job Market
is absolutley great. I got a job out there like one week after I was there. Make
sure, your husband looks on the internet about his job skills, and who's
hiring........before you go. He can get some interviews lined up as soon as he
gets out there. ONLINE. Have him make calls, emails, send faxes to various
companies. He can make excellent $ out there with his particular skills.
As far as tempations go....there are alot. So make sure ur hubby is a very
trustworthy and loyal partner, and good father. And you won't have any trouble.
You have to be a tight family to stay out there, cause of the other stuff. But like
I said, be sure, your family is solid. Lots of different opportunities, and not
just "on the strip". Also, my allergies went away as soon as I got out there!!
So, ya, the dry air, is really good for that. Good Luck.....

I lived in Vegas for several months back in 1994. In the Vegas environment you and your family will either thrive or die. If you die, leave immediately with whatever you have on your back.

This answer sounds stupid. You'll realize how true it is a year after you are there. Hope you thrive. Good Luck!

Well, I am sure there is good and bad about Las Vegas, just like there are any other cities. I am sure you would not live in the middle of the city anyways and some of the suburbs of Las Vegas are very nice. I am not sure what the job market is like there though.

If your husband is an electrician y'all may consider moving south. Ares in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana are still rebuilding from hurrican Katrina and the need for qualified workers is in high demand. The weather is rather nice in those areas almost year round exept for the occasion hurricane. =)

I live in Michigan too, If i had the chance to move to Vegas i would in a heartbeat, Been there many times and you don't have to live on the strip.....100's of people are leaving our State daily, and you can't blame them, There's no jobs here anymore.....Your kids will be fine, It's no worse than any other State...Michigan isn't so great any more, Look at Saginaw and Flint, There is nothing safe about those two towns, I'm sure you know what i mean....Life is short....Make the move and be happy in the sun, I hate Michigan winters.......Good Luck from a Michigander....

Do some research about it like how much for housing (buying or renting) cost of living etc. My brother and his wife moved there recently as she needed to be near better medical care. Also his daughter and her husband have lived there for a number of years. He's an iron worker and she works in maintainance at one of the casinos. Together they are raising their kids who are 6 ,10 and 12 years. The gambling and drinking are not a problem for them because they don't bother with it.
I visit there on occasion. Your right about jobs. Vegas is growing in leaps and bounds. It's a fast paced town for sure. But as far as raising a family there it's no different than any other city. Lots of families are there who don't gamble and are mainly interested in raising their kids-like anywhere else. The casino industry have noticed this trend so they are becoming very family orientated. Get a hold of some travel folders and check out what's available. One thing is the climate. If you like snow, forget it. The heat can be down right oppressive. So you need to consider that. I noticed that it really has become very dirty air wise. New highways tons of new housing projects lots of people moving there. It's been reported that Vegas is the fastest growing city in the USA. Which brings up another potential problem. How is all the water going to be provided for this swelling population? That would be my main concern. Anything else can work out for you.

I've heard Las Vegas to be a good and bad place to live. Yeah, they said that the cost of living there isnt bad and its one of the top places people are moving to. But on the other hand, there are some people that move out to Vegas only to realize that its not what they expected. Then they end up moving back to where they consider 'home'.

I wouldnt mind living there myself. I would want to live away from the strip, but close enough to go visit every so often. Good luck!

Well, we all know Vegas has alot of electricity running through it, so landing a job out there should happen pretty quick.

As far as raising your kids in Las Vegas, it should not be too much different from any other place. You will expose them to what you want them to be exposed too. They don't have go to the strip where all of the casinos are unless you take them there.

Vegas has school districts, churches, malls, nice dry grassless neighborhoods, etc, like any other city (with the exception of grassless neighborhoods). Raising your children in Vegas should not be a problem at all. I say go for it and enjoy the change of scenerary and climate.

I live in Michigan also and I am more than ready to leave here but I want to go somewhere south. Arizona doesn't sound too bad except it is too far from my family.

i read an article the other day that it is one of the best ten places to go to find work. If one of you get a job there, that doesn't mean you have to live there. You can live outside of Vegas, I heard there are nice areas outside of Vegas. Its probably a very good career move.

Live near Vegas... a suburb. You know that all that stuff is concentrated there, so just move a little bit out from it.

There will be plenty of job opportunities there, but do you really want to live in that atmosphere? Your kids can get into alcohol, drugs, and gambling wherever they go, not just Vegas.

If you aspire to have a long term, safe living space in an area with plenty of culture and consistency, this is not the place for you. If you're in a transitional period or just want to move around and see what it's like to live in different environments then consider Vegas.

Vegas is probably as good a place as any, if you like it 110 degrees in the shade. How often do you go downtown where you live now? You can live in the suburbs and enjoy the desert landscape while your hubby keeps the lights in the big city glowing.

I say if you have the opportunity and can afford it go ahead and move. I live in Northeast Ohio and the work is slowing here also. 55-80 people are going to get laid off where I work in the next three months. You don't have to be a gambler or drinker to live in Las Vegas. I'm sure there's plenty of people living normal lives without all the Vegas trappings. Hey, if I'm out of work, maybe I'll be joining you !

Maybe he should apply to some jobs out there before you move. Plus, how old are your kids? It's probably going to be really tough on them unless they're really young. Even when I was in the fourth grade, I had to move to Michigan and I was so upset, I left all my friends. The jobs around here won't be slow forever; I might wait a while.
