Considering today's economic climate you want to just "up and move?" That isn't very smart unless you actually have a job somewhere. While our Texas unemployment rate is low they dont' just hire every Tom, Dick, and/or Harry off the street. If you have a job, stay where you are until conditions improve. Moving just because you want to do something before turn 30 is just... foolish (sorry, only word that comes to mind). |

Austin is fun if you like live music and art and are more liberal and open minded.
But traffic is kind of a pain and there's always road work.
Dallas is kind of a concrete jungle, more businessy than Austin. I don't really spend much time there |

If i were you, i would want to live in Austin because there are more things to do and more places to go. That is my opinion. Oh and if you a football fan, got to Austin |

Austin doesn't have any real snow. It may get cold one morning in February but by 10 am it is over it. Most people go to Alaska or the east coast for snow. My brother goes to Bear Mountain in CA mostly because I live near there now.
I moved to LA because of my husband's job. Otherwise I would have stayed in Austin. I have never been to Dallas but spent some time in Houston where my brother lives. Check out austin360.com for ideas of things to do when you fly down some weekend. Whether you love the outdoors, bikes, art, film and really terrific music, this capital/college town is right for almost everyone. |

I've lived in Dallas for the better part of 50 years, - my years in the Army. No complaints ahem the big city crime, but thats everywhere nowadays. There's awfyl parts of this town like anywhere you go. I live in Deep Ellum, Guess you can call it the "arts district", downtown. Some say it's the armpit, but that only to those who never visit this part of town. Uptown is alive and thriving with 20-40 year olds, the "yuppies" good l=folks.
Austin is a great place to live and work is plentiful. Lots to do and many places to visit.
Consider Ft.Worth !!! A fantastic middle ground. about 20 miles west of Dallas and about 140 miles noth of Austin. Inexpensive, friendly and safe. |

I recently saw something about how great Texas is and they specifically said Austin is awesome & has a great music scene. I'd say go for the capital if I were you :) |

I've been to both. I like the western feel of fort worth- bars and rodeos on the weekends, and cowgirls in those tight jeans and tall boots... or when it gets hot jean skirts***-- thats easy to get to from Dallas.
However, Asutin is wierd and fun. Kind of has a West Coast feel (think California, or Portland OR). And I think its closer to ski-able terrain, which you seem to be into.
Visit both before moving! |

Austin is more of an artsy/musical city. There is always live music somewhere that you can see. And some parts of the city are very, very beautiful but can be relatively expensive in comparison to other parts of Austin.
Dallas gets a whole lot more snow than Austin does. So if you think you might miss the Snow - than Dallas may be better. When I think of Dallas I think of money and business. They also have this neat light rail train system all through the city, which is nice if you dont like to drive everywhere.
I personally like both of them so good luck on your choice! |

I LIVE IN DALLAS BUT I HAVE SISTER IN AUSTIN. DEPENDS ON WHAT TYPE OF TOWN YOU WANT. AUSTIN IS ALL COLLEGE TOWNY WITH LOTS OF YOUNG PEOPLE MAINLY GIRS I SEES, AND TRAFFIC IS A MAJOR BEOTCH. ITS NICER AREA BUT REAL ESTATE MORE EXPENSIVE AND THINGS SEEM KIND OF SPREAD OUT. I PREFER DALLAS BECAUSE MY KUNG FU SCHOOL HERE AND TRAFFIC AND REAL ESTATE BETTER. IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO. I WOULD SUGGEST STAYING IN BOTH PLACES IN HOTEL OR SOMETHING FOR LIKE A WEEK OR TWO. THEY ARE ONLY 3 OR 4 HOURS APART DRIVING. |

Well, I say Austin. It's bigger, it's the capital. But, they're both kind of the same. Maybe see which houses you like better, and which ones are cheaper, and what activities to do in each city. You know, things like that. But Texas is an amazing place, I lived there for 10 years of my life. Houston, though. Anyways, best of luck! |
