Not good at all here in Vegas. No jobs to be had. All the casinos are laying off. If there is a job opening there are 100 applicants for each one. They are going to hire the most experienced and someone who has lived here for awhile. You don't have much of a chance. Stay where you are. |

You can make a lot of money anywhere. There is a huge poverty base of people in Vegas.. You may just join them if you don't come prepared. |

No. The unemployment rate is apx 7.2% I would not go unless you have a job lined up, and even then you are not safe. Stay where you are at if you have a stable income and when the economy is better, then take a chance. |

Right now housing is affordable in Vegas because of the economy, Vegas has been hit hard and is one of the worst foreclosure markets. The average pay rate for jobs is 12 dollars an hour, that's an ok job a little higher up than Wal-Mart or a gas station but not as good as security or manager positions at casinos. If you have a college education you may or may not get a higher wage and better job. Remember, Las Vegas is built around the casino and tourism industries, industries that fluctuate often. The person who said it is boring is not far from correct. It's fun to visit but you can't gamble all the time or its pointless to move there for money. If you like to party then I guess it's a good place to be, but its not a cheap place to party either. You need to do your research and be really sure its something that would benefit you in the long run. I'm guessing its pretty expensive to move from Hawaii to the mainland; think of how hard it will be to get back home if things go badly and you're flat broke in Vegas. I'm not really saying its a bad idea; I'm just saying do lots of research and be prepared prepared prepared. If you need a change and want to take the leap, at least have some savings set aside along with a back up plan in case Vegas takes you for all you're worth. Other than that, I think it might be difficult to go from the humid climate of Hawaii to the very dry arid climate of Vegas. |

It really depends on what kind of job skills you have. The Vegas economy isnt doing very well right now (housing cost are super low if you want to buy). I would do a little research and even go as far as calling businesses in the area and talking to some employees. My friend in the car business wanted to move to Vegas and did this. He decided not to move. Good luck! |

Well you already have the dream life that everybody wants, but if your tired of that boring dream, than yeah, move out. but maybe no to vegas, you should try a more quiet but out there type of place. like maybe Florida. i dont know, it all depends on your own taste and personality and likes and dislikes, cause different places, different things, and different people. |

It all depends on what you do for a living. I have never been to Hawaii, but I lived in Vegas for about five years. I am moving back in January. I loved living there. There is such a big variety of things to do out there. When you live in Vegas you do not typically go to the strip more than occasionally. Housing prices are very low at the moment so it is smart to buy now. I would recomend living on the north west side of las vegas. It has newer neighborhoods and less problems. It is also close to Mount Charleston. That is one of my favorite places to go. You would never expect some where so close to Vegas be so beautiful! I grew up in california and it is not that far of a drive to get to there from Vegas. There are some nice beaches there, but I am sure they would not even compare to Hawaii beaches. Maybe you should just take an extended vacation to Vegas to check it out for yourself. Good luck! |

Not a good time. The unemployment rate in Las Vegas is at 7.5%. The highest it has been in 23 years. |

Stay in Hawaii...Vegas is fun, but not a good place to make a life of it. Like the rest of the country at the moment, if you go off-strip where "real people" live, it's just as depressed and economically on hard times as the rest of us are. |

Vegas is cheaper than any of the islands, I will say that. (It's also cheaper than the NYC metro area, where I came from.) BUT it's not easy to find a job here. Most companies (especially the casinos) will not even talk to you unless you have a local address, but unless you have really good credit or a job waiting, it's not easy to get a local address. Because of the crappy economy, the few casinos that are hiring have five times the applicants for each job than they normally do. (Nurses, however, are in high demand for the most part.)
So, bottom line is, if you have a halfway decent job, stay put for now and bank some cash to live on once you make the move, ideally six months' or more of living expenses. It took one of my friends six weeks to get a job, another three months, I was one of the rare lucky ones - I pretty much had a job waiting for me. |

typically in vegas you are either making lots of money, which is limited to a few people, or making minimal money. The neighborhoods aren't very friendly either |

Vegas is cheap but off the strip it is a hole. My daughter was offered a free ride at the University there for a grad degree and a doctorate and is turning it down because everywhere within 5 miles of the campus, people put bars on their windows. Not a good sign.
And the hotels are suffering right now and so there are a lot of unemployed people there. Jobs are scarce and most pay only minimum wage anyway.

Don't listen to other people saying Vegas is a bad area. They don't know what they're talking about. Its only a bad place to live if you live in North Las Vegas or near the strip. If you want to live somewhere nice in Vegas, than look into buying a house in Summerlin, Las Vegas. It's a really nice community, one of the top in the nations. The weather does get pretty hot in the summer, but you will learn to deal with it. Its also a great place too if you like sunshine. We almost have sunshine everyday. |

Its a great city to live in, but there are 3 main jobs in this city : Police Dept. / Casino Worker / or Work at McCarren Intl. Airport. If you can get one of those jobs, then your time in LV will be great. |

It's possible, but like anywhere.....If you make a lot more money there...it costs more to live there. Also it depends on what type of work you are considring doing...in Vegas you have to pay taxes in that profession. |
