So confused about everything!!? |
hi, i am planning on a trip to orlando, but iv never been before, and really have not ever planned a proper holiday before either.
I have been trying to research the area for days and am just so confused because there just seems so much to do.
I really want to get all of the disney world experience fitted in, along with universal studios and discovery cove. but is there anything els i should try fit in? it will be the only time i do such a trip so i want it to be amazing, but i also need a day or two free for shopping.
where are the best places to shop? best places to visit? any deals regarding good value tickets for the theme parks? any suggestions bout where to stay? its really important that i have a good location.
the holiday is for 2 adults , and one 13 year old child.
is it necessary to hire a car or wud i be better off not to??
also can anyone give me a bit of info about the disney theme park as it seems to be huge, how many days wud i need for it??
thank you all so much,
a very confused traveller :) |

Katie, the site at the bottom is designed for first-time visitors to Walt Disney World, so can help with that part of your questions! It covers when to go, where to stay, how long to stay, what to budget, etc.
Good luck, Dave |

The disney theme park has 6 parks in itself - Animal Kingdom, Epcot village, Magic Kingdom, MGM Studios, and 2 water parks...decide which ones you want to go to...you can see what are the attractions in each of these parks in the disney website - ticketing is separate but if u r visiting multiple parks, you get a gud discount..! Each park would take one day...if u want to go for all the rides / attractions...
Do not miss Seaworld - am sure ur kid will love it! You will enjoy it too..The "Believe" show there is just awesome!! -this wud take a day as well (if u are watching all the shows)
There is Universal studios and Islands of Adventure as well...You can fit both into one day but it 'll get really tiring...
As for the tickets, you can go to their websites and check..it varies by state and u get a discount if u are a AAA member...
depending on the number of days u have, you can plan where to go and what to do!! And yes, it is better to hire a car than to take cab everytime...! |

Don't forget Busch Gardens and Downtown Disney both are great to do all I think 3 weeks is needed so you can have a couple of rest days and shopping days.
Whatever you do beleive me you will have a great time. We always have a villa and a car for independance and comfort
Best wishes

i went to Disney last year and spent 28 nights there. And i still did not manage to do everything that there was to do,
I done all my shopping at Orlando premium outlet's and they had some really great deals, if you go on line Before you go and look it up you can print money off vouchers to take with you for the outlets,
I stayed in a hotel in Lake Buena Vista called springhill suites and it was lovely, and we had free transport from the hotel to the parks every day.. Could even watch the fireworks from our balconey at night if we was not at the park.
We only had to get a cab to Universal so we got a yellow cab and it cost us $22 plus tip.
A couple of people that was there at the same time as us had hired a car, but never used as they did not like driving on the roads so they used the bus service from the hotel.
Also at Lake buena vista there is plenty of different places to eat, within a 10 minute walk from the hotel.
Try this link for tickets

Hope you have a great time, I am already saving for my next trip there, and i cant wait |

The best place to shop is either the Florida Mall or Downtown Disney. You should stay in one of Disney's hotels. They have value resorts (the least expensive), moderate resorts (middle), and deluxe resorts (the most expensive). It's not surprising, but Disney has mostly deluxe, then moderate, then value. :(. If money is not an issue, the Yacht and Beach Clubs are probably the best. The best moderate is Caribbean Beach Resort. The best value is Pop Century. They all provide busses to the Disney theme parks, and some even provide monorail service. Don't hire a car. Most of your time will be spent as Disney. Take a cab to Universal and anywhere else you want to go. It is WAYYYYY more cost effiecient and takes less time. You need 1 day per park, and it would be better for you if you spent:
2 days @ Magic Kingdom (Disney)
2 days @ EPCOT (Disney)
1 day @ Hollywood Studios (Disney)
1 day @ Animal Kingdom (Disney)
1 day @ Islands of Adventure (Universal)
1 day @ Universal Studios
1 day @ discovery Cove
1 day shopping.
Hope you have fun! Disney is the best vacation you will ever have! You will never, ever forget it. |

Wow - so many questions - and so many answers!
I would not go for less than a week. If you are going to do more than just Disney parks, then I suggest a longer time and to rent a car for the non-Disney portion of your holiday.
As for planning, etc, check out the link below. There is a step by step planning guide and tons of great Disney-related information and planning tools.
Good Luck! and Have FUN! |

last year was my first vacation as well get the book the unnoficial guide to disneyworld, it has everything from reviews of hotels to internet web sites. i found that if you plan everything seperate it is a lot cheaper, unless you decide to stay on disney site. one tip of advice if you are planning to do disney just do disney, don't try to everything unless you are going for 2 or more weeks. i hope this helps. you can get the book at almost any book store around 20 |

We did the disney thing last year & yes you definately need to hire a car! Disneyworld has around 7 different lands which are all huge & we found it impossible to get around just one in 1 day. It was brilliant, loads of fun but very very tiring & there are awful queues, try to get fast track passes for the rides as it cuts your queuing by half! Have a great time, enjoy:) |

You have to go to Florida mall. You should stay at Bahama Bay resort its wicked and only 15 Min's away from the parks.

You didn't say how long you will be there?
If you want to do the Disney world experience then plan at least one day per park. Epcot is a park, Magic Kingdom is a park etc..
The best way to do Disney is to stay in one of their resorts, all your transportation and admission to the parks is included. If you did this, I wouldn't get a car. |

There are some really great answers above mine and I agree with most everything they say. I have only one thing to add. Be sure NOT to over plan yourself. You might think you may want to do it all, but I promise you, you don't want to do it all back to back. I love the parks, and a multi-day / multi-park pass will probably do you well, but trying to fit in 3 other major parks (SeaWorld, Universal, and Islands of Adventure) along with the water parks, Discovery Cove, shopping and other attractions will wear you down quickly. So be sure to keep that in mind while you are planning. It's like trying to eat a gallon of icecream after eating a half a cheese cake. No matter how appealing the idea is, sometimes it's just too much. I highly recommend the Disney Vacation DVD. Come up with a good plan, and do what's comfortable. Maintaining a constant state of amazement and fun is really exhausting. It's do-able - I've done it. But it is much more enjoyable if you pace yourself. |

I can answer that you will need at least a day for each park at Disney if you have never been there. Utilize the early and late opening... you will need a park hopper for that. I have never been to Discovery Cove, but if you just want to swim with Dolphins, there might be a cheaper route. And Disney offers a shark tank that you can swim in which does not equal swimming with Dolphins but it is fun and interesting. Universal Studios, stay there in one of their hotels and if not, buy the jump in front of the line pass. It is well worth it. |

You probably need about a week to do everything in disney (hope you're having 2 weeks holiday!)
There is 4 main parks - Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney Studios, Animal kingdom.
And 2 water parks - Blizzard Beach & Typhoon Lagoon.
Universal is Unmissable, probably a 2 day ticket for that so u can do the main park & Islands of Adventure.
Discovery Cove is brilliant also (although quite expensive) must book early as well cos it gets booked up quickly. They only let a ceratin amount of epople in the park each day to stop it from getting over crowded.
I would also recommend taking a trip 2 Seaworld, but it depends on how much time you've got.
Depending on where you are staying a hire car would be a good idea, if you are staying in a Disney Hotel you have free bus transportation from your hotel to the Disney Parks or monorail is available as well. But to get to the other places you want to go to a hire car would be a good idea.
For shopping head out to International Drive (or i-Drive it's known as), and the Florida Mall is a good place to visit.
Tickets for theme park are always best booked before you go and it's a good idea to shop around for the best deal. Here are some websites for tickets;

Hope this has helped & u have a good time!

if you going to disney you will need a day at each park.
Magic Kingdom(day)
Epcot(day)
Animal Kingdom(half day)
hollywood studios(half day)
so you could do it in 3 but magic kingdom is deffinatly going to take you a whole day and at night at magic kingdom you should watch the fireworks and the lazer light show they are the best you will ever see with out a doubt. Tinker bell flies outta the top of the magic kingdom during the fireworks. and the light show is just amazing
also at epcot they have a very very very amazing light show at night. those are the best things. but you could shop after like animal kingdom and hollywood studios. and as for anything else there i think that the disney parks and universal are the only good attractions there. |

We've been a few times and Orlando is great-but I really would advise hiring a car,it is a huge place and the parks and shops/attractions etc are spread over a vast distance which can be a real drag if you have to rely on public transport.
There are some great malls-Festival Bay and Prime Outlets on International Drive (the main tourist part), Flea Markets in Kissimmee, lots of Factory Outlet stores scattered around the place.
As for where to stay well that depends on what you're looking for-if you want to be in the heart of things and near Universal,Wet & Wild and Seaworld then International Drive (known as I-Drive) is the place,if you want a quieter place nearerto Disney then Lake Buena Vista is that place, also Kissimmee is nice-that is also near Disney is quieter. |

Hmmmmmmm nothing like an easy question..... Lets give it a try....
Firstly before you do anything you need to decide what you want..... ie a villa, hotel, motel etc.......
Once you have decided that then the rest will fall into place..... as follows.
A hotel will usually supply transportation to the major theme parks, though this means you are at 'there' beck and call.... and therefore not free to enjoy yourself without clock watching continually....
So here's two choices....
Travel City Direct do complete packages.... which include a choice of hotel, motel or villa....
Or you can go into Asda and first choice and book a flight, motel etc and do it your self.
First choice flights are excellent as are Virgin.....
Hire a car from an english web site..... Just type in Car hire Orlando....
As for accomodation.... .A villa is secluded, peaceful and a bit more expensive...... How ever you have your own pool and all the facilitys of home. some have Games rooms etc so you have lots of enjoyment while able to chill as well.
Motels....We use the Golden Link on the 192 in Kissimmee its clean tidy etc and very reasonable for price.....about 25 pounds a night for 4 people sharing.......
Parks. Disney is huge and i MEAN HUGE..... you will need at least a 14 hour day per park and will be exhausted after a day that long.... Universal is awesome... Seaworld is a must... and Disney has 5 parks..... We love NASA but thats a personal choice so up for you to decide.....
You will find that all the parks except Disney offer special priced tickets at season end, ie sept onwards..... so check the nett....Deals include buy a day get one free or 3 for the price of 2 and so on.....
Depending on how long you go for you need t opace yourself or will burn out very quickly....
We usually do one day at a park and one day chilling or shopping.
Lastly, shopping.... America is cheap..... very cheap... so pack nothing and buy yourself clothes etc....
ie jeans 7 pairs 100 dollars etc.... Trainers 3 pairs 55 dollars.... And thats Levi's and Nike not rubbish stuff.......
hope all that helps..... ask more if I can help....
and enjoy yourselves and relax.....
T
Oh and 3 weeks minimum is good..... |

well when are you going? if you have not booked your trip yet, try to hold off until like octoberish.. mayybe even september, but if you want a really magical vacation go during the christmas season .. the first week in december rather than any other week during this time. I am going the 5-16. It is nice weather, not scorcing hot but not cold. its about 70's, 75's. and it is quiet. no long lines at all the most youll probably wait is 15 mins. Try to go for two weeks at least, or 10 days. You need four days alone for disney world to see everything. There are four parks, Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot & Animal Kingdom. Everything is amazing in these parks because you feel like a kid again, so nothing should be missed. Magic Kingdom has the most rides, Epcot has the least, but it has an amazing world showcase where you can walk through countries and experience them. You really want to go to Universal & Islands of Adventure, so that is another two days. See everything there also. Discovery Cove can get expencive, really expencive so i reccomend sea world instead. You can go shopping at downtown disney, or at the premium outlets which are right around the corner from sea world they have over 100 outlet stores. you can stay on international drive, bronson highway, or inside disney. theyre all located wonderfully no more then a 10 minute ride to all the parks. if you stay in disney you may not need a car, but a car is very handy to rent. check out packages on disneyworld.com or any travel agent sites. have fun! |

I don't know how long you plan on staying, but if you were to just get park-hopper tickets for the week, you should be able to visit all of the parks. I reccomend going to Disney's website and requesting a free DVD and vacation planning guide. Also, I highly reccomnend that you purchase the meal plan...it will save you so much money on food. Disney actually has a shopping area that is really neat. In all actuality, you could just go to Disney, stay at Disney, and never have to go anywhere else and still not see everything! You should look into the resorts at the park and decide on which one according to your budget. I'd go to different web sites to compare prices and save money by buying packages. You won't need a rental car. You can get transportation from the airport right to the park and use the buses and monorails to get around. Don't miss Magic Kingdom and the parade they have on certain nights. Eat a ginormous turkey leg by Pirates of the Carabean! Some of the resorts have the monorail going right through them making it really easy to get from one place to another. You will have a wonderful vacation! Like I said, you could go for a long trip and still not see everything! |

You've got a lot of well meaning but long-winded answers so I'll keep it short.
Hire a villa, Glenbrook resort is very good and reasonably priced...http://www.globalresorthomes.com/glenbrook-resort.cfm
Hire a car, you'll regret not doing so, they're cheap and so is fuel.
Buy this book...http://www.amazon.com/Unofficial-Guide-Walt-Disney-World/dp/0764583417 And heed every word, it should be your bible, it tells the truth about the parks.
Give yourself one day for each of the Disney parks and START with EPCOT, it's the quietest and the least exciting.
Buy all your tickets and hire the car whilst in the UK, it's considerably cheaper.
Don't worry, you'll have a fantastic time. |

i did that when i was 7 years old (I am 30 now)
and i remember i loved universal studios
and Disney bored the hell out of me!
apart from the fact that you spend the day queueing.
it is a queue trip. |
