What is your nationality? I am Caucasian & have lived in Hawaii for > 30 years

Why do Hawaiians dislike white people?
I do not accept the premise that Hawaiians dislike white people. I think SOME Hawaiians dislike SOME white people for a variety of issues, but most of it boils down to 3 or 4 major issues.
1) An awful lot of mainland folks move over here & then all they seem to do is complain about how awful it is here & how much better it was back home. This gets on local people's nerves & kinda makes you wonder why they moved here in the first place.
2) Many white people come over here with a lot of attitude. They anticipate that they will be mistreated by locals & so are very defensive. They don't take the time to understand or appreciate local customs or foods & essentially look down their noses at locals. This doesn't win any points either.
3) Basic "have/have not" issues. Most "haves" come with white skin,. "Have nots" tend to resent "haves", especially when the "haves" come from somewhere else.
4) And then there is the overthrow of the monarchy, which in historical terms didn't take place all that long ago. The fact is, that the American government did wrong by the Hawaiian people at that time. There was an official apology back in the '80s, but it didn't really change anything.

Same issues, basically, but with less emphasis on #4.

I'm white and I've visited Hawaii three times, I did experience this when I was there...but I don't think it's because I'm white.

I don't think that they specifically dislike white people, just tourists.

I'm guessing that they dislike tourists because they want to keep their island private, they don't want a bunch of tourists and resorts messing up their beautiful island and trespassing on their land.

I don't know if that's the answer you were looking for but I tried...

how would you like a whole bunch of snobby foreigners coming to your land, thinking they can get away with anything. not really caring about the land, or animals. Being rude to waiters and waitresses because they have money? Its annoying to have all these (rich, white) people coming to your home, and not caring about it because they'll be going back to the mainland in a couple days..

Basically, it is the same all over the world. The Majority dislikes the minority. The caucasion is the minority, so there will be some snubbing done to them. If you were an asian in the midwest, you would get treated poorly.

To the person from North Carolina, you are white and everyone treats you nice, hmmmmm, wonder why. Last time I was in NC, I was at a gas station and a nice African American guy warned me to stay close to the main roads, because"guys like you and me, it's not safe to stray too far". Don't tell me that everyone is nice there. I have lived all over the country, and people are all the same. It doesn't matter what race you are, the majority will look down on the minority. When I lived in Japan, I had a vice principal of an elementary school tell me that he looked down on Koreans in Japan. He didn't know why, but he just felt that way.

Hawaiians dislike white people: Because they have a HUGE chip on their shoulder because there "government" couldn't save their land, so had to rely on the US to bail them out.

Why do islanders dislike whte people? Like I said above, majority over minority. Has nothing to do with you being a tourist. Although, everyone hates tourists, and I can see why here, when you have people asking stupid questions like what currency we use here.

people this person was just asking an honest question in the form of a survey. and in a polite way if I may add... I kinda agree with that Japanese american dude above,,,in Europe,you MIGHT get mistreated if you are not white......in Africa,you MIGHT get mistreated if you are not black......and in Asia you MIGHT get mistreated if you are not asian....same with Hawaii and all the states....depending on which race is more....there.... haha I emphasized on the MIGHT part...:P bye:D

the reason why hawaiian people tend to dislike "white" people is because some toruists do stupid things like litter, drive really slow to look at the scenery, etc.

Why does anyone dislike anyone? SOME Hawaiians dislike Caucasians because they feel that their land was stolen by the U.S. I'm not saying I disagree with them, btw!

Isn't this the same question as the one above? If you mean why do *all* people in the islands hate white people, the simple answer is: they don't. Some people hate other people based on race, religion, sexual preference, etc., etc., etc. There have always been racists in the world and there probably always will be, unfortunately. Racism doesn't begin and end with Hawaiians. There are plenty of people here who think Hawaiians are lazy, uneducated, whatever. I'm sure that's true of some Hawaiians...just like it's true of some Caucasians, some Asians, some African-Americans...There are also plenty of hard working, open minded, warm hearted, family-oriented Hawaiian people in Hawaii and elsewhere in the world. Don't believe everything you read. Come and experience the islands for yourself. Be open minded and friendly and you will likely experience the same in return.

I don't know, maybe it has something to do with the fact that Hawaii was independent until we decided to take it over in a short but bloody battle.

I am Hapa which is Hawaiian for Mixed I am Filipino, German, Spanish, English, Irish and Scottish.

Some Hawaiians not all don't like White people due the fact that when the Missionaries came the banned the Hawaiian culture, language, hula etc. The Missionaries also basically overthrew the Hawaiian islands. So unfortunately all Whites get the blame. But keep in mind only it is only some Hawaiians.

Why do islanders dislike white people?
There are many different culture that live in Hawaii and these cultures all have their slightly differing beliefs and practices. Some people who come here generalize and treat all cultures the same with out learning the differences. They say things like "Bake in the States" etc. But as with Hawaiians it is only some.

Are you sure it's white people...or just tourists in general... Hawaii is a big tourist attraction and many locals in places like this don't like tourists.

Well the funny thing is only about 5 percent of the people there are actual Hawaiians. The others are Phillipino, Japanese, white, mixed race etc. The funny thing is that a lot of Mexicans there pretend that they are Hawaiian. Lots of drugs over there pot smoking of course but dangerous drugs as well. It is a society sort of like the mafia with a lot of tight control on who can make money and who cannot. Very very few actual Hawaiians of Hawaiian blood.

living in hawaii would creep me out, just a little island in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by the pacific ocean.
