Taking 5 yr old to disneyland, what are some must?

My husband and I are taking our 5 yr old son to disneyland. We've checked height requirements, and hes tall enough to go on about every ride (although there are some I refuse to let him go on). What are some MUSTS we should do with him there that he will get a kick out of?
Additional Details
thanks for the advice, but im NOT going to lose my son at disneyland.

the Buzz Lightyear laser ride is fun. the Pirates of the Caribbean is a must for a boy. if he can take the intensity of it, and not get too frightened, Indiana Jones would be awesome at that age. Peter Pan is a great ride, but it has a 30-40 minute wait time. definitely worth it though. Finding Nemo would be good too, but the line is too long. usually a 30-40 minute wait as well. just something to expect. Toontown does not have any great rides, but it is fun to mess around with the gags on the buildings and houses. a son and Smallworld may not mix well, unless it is very hot outside, than that ride is a must. air conditioning inside. lifesaver. same with Pirates. every kid is different with the Haunted Mansion. i know twelve year olds who refuse to go on that ride. so, feel it out, and walk with him near it, if he begins to freak out, say you are taking him to the Winnie the Pooh ride, or look at Splash Mountain. if he's kind of squeamish, it is probably better to skip it. the train around the park is great if you need a rest, plus you can look at the park, see what catches your sons eye, and they have a cool dinosaur diorama. so win-win for everyone. Snow White, Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland, all great. Autopia will give you a head ache. Jungle Cruise is fun. If you get the park hopper ticket, there is a Monster Inc. ride, a really great Toy Story 3D shooting ride, a good show based on A Bugs Life. for a kid that age, that is pretty much it at California Adventure, but i do not think you can spend a whole day there without getting bored. have fun and i hope your son enjoys the trip.

loves christmas lights
Remember to take sitting down relaxing breaks often, the lines are long, the day is long, the walks are long, so take family breaks and take in the sights.
Stick with the children rides first, for the first fast type ride, Id do pirates of the carribean, there are two water falls that are not that big or fast, and the ride is inside and very well done!!. Walk from there and go to the Haunted House, its mild enough he should be fine and its not gory or gross, its family entertainment and done tastefully.
For one of your rest breaks go on the ship and you can sit and enjoy the ride around the park, and the monorail is a nice sit and view for the family also.
The jungle cruise is my favorite ride, hell love it!!. The tree house is awesome also.
The submarine ride, the udrive fun cars in that same area are great too.
Space mountain if hes big enough, is all in the dark, so the perception of what the ride is doing is all different, and many kids Ive taken to DL can handle that ride, where as I wont even go on the Matterhorn anymore.

Rides to avoid.
Matterhorn. Its fast, jerky, and is pretty scary for a child.

I dont like carnival type rides, so Ive not got to the newer area of the park, those kinds of rides are anywhere.

everything is fun there. maybe getting him an autograph book to get all the character's signatures and pictures with them. the fireworks show at night is really neat too. lots to do there, don't worry.

My mother took me when I was younger and I had loads of fun!
I believe i had the most fun in Toon Town. I also got to see "Honey I Shrunk The Audience" in 3-D. It wasn't the actual movie, but it was really cool, especially as a kid. I also rode the Space Mountain roller coaster, however, I heard that they changed things about the ride that make it less fun. It used to be completely dark inside, but I guess it's not anymore. Seeing the inside of that castle was so cool, but I was a little girl when I saw it, and I doubt a little boy would want to see that, haha.

Hope I helped. :)

It's a small world, and the Rodger Rabbit ride.

splash mountain!!!!

Obviousman
It all depends on what kind of rides he likes.

Pirates of the Caribbean is a classic
So is Haunted Mansion
Splash Mountain, if he's tall enough, he'll love that
Don't miss the parade
It's a Small World is really good
Star Tours is very exciting
Let him run around Tom Sawyer Island

make sure he gets some rest...SUN block...plenty of snacks/water. A stroller, in case he gets too tired.
They have maps, times with 'characters'/pictures.

bring plenty of cash, california adventure may not be the right side to go with your 5 yr old, but disneyland as a whole will be great fun for him.

you have to the song of the south logflume ride, its about brer rabbit, im 23 and i thoughtit was awesome! its not a fast log flume, it just goes around these lil sorta story sets, and tells some of the story. Also imagination land, that could be epcot though?

first off.. buy a water proof magic marker pen and write your cell phone number and his blood type of his shoulder. if you dont like this. then at least write it in his shoe, underwear or shirt collar..
kids get lost so easily..

Beeker
Well first, you MUST bring about 5 trillion dollars so you can afford all the stuff he'll want. Second, you MUST bring a PSP or DS to keep him occupied while waiting in like for 3 hours per ride. Third, bring about a gallon of water to keep him hydrated, as the drinks they sell there will cost you somewhere around your mortgage payment.

NONAME
Wait until he is 8. He will have much more fun.

unknown
Put a leash on him.
lol.
