Don't worry! You don't know a thing about the place, but I know nearly everything there is to know about Walt Disney World, and I'd be very glad to help you out.

The best time to go to Walt Disney World is any time considered of lowest attendance. This is directly from the Walt Disney World website and it lists the times of year with the lowest and highest attendance...

"Lowest Attendance: January (except New Year's Day) until just prior to Presidents' week in February
The week following Labor Day until just prior to Thanksgiving week
The week following Thanksgiving until the week prior to Christmas

Moderate Attendance: After Presidents' week in February through early March
Late April through early June (except Memorial Day weekend)
The first part of Thanksgiving week

Highest Attendance: Presidents' week in February
Mid-March through Late April ("Spring Break")
Memorial Day weekend
Mid-June through Labor Day
Thanksgiving Day and weekend
Christmas week through New Year's Day"

The best Resorts to stay at are the ones right on Walt Disney World property. There are all sorts of wonderful benefits to stay on property, like access to the Extra Magic Hours at the theme parks, the Disney Dining Plan, free transportation to and from Orlando International Airport, free transportation to and from the parks, etc. There are different types of Resorts to fit any bidget - Value Resorts, Moderate Resorts, and Deluxe Resorts. The best Resort on Walt Disney World property is Disney's Polynesian Resort. It's my personal favorite and where I always stay. It has the highest return rate out of all the Resorts at Walt Disney World, which means more people prefer their stays at Disney's Polynesian Resort compared to their stays at any of the other Walt Disney World Resorts.

If your child is not in school, the best time to go would be when other kids are in school. We did that and the lines to the rides was a LOT shorter.

We stayed at the Dolphin - which was expensive. But in the basement - they had something like a food court - about 6 restaurants. If you pass by it - try the french toast at the main restaurant. Its GREAT!

There is so much to see - there is no way you'll be able to hit all of it. So, buy a book in advance - and pick a "Top Item" for each day of your visit.

The best times to visit the Walt Disney World Resort are from mid January to mid April and late September to mid December. These are the off-peak times and you'll avoid heavy crowd flow. Do not visit on a holiday or on a weekend to help avoid crowds as well. My prefered months to visit are April and October. Both months have low crowds, but the temps are warmer and you can enjoy swimming at the beach, in your resort pool, or at a water park. Winter months, although warmer than most places in the U.S. can still be cold and you won't want to go swimming at the beach.

Staying at a Disney Resort is a lot of fun! If you are on a budget, I recommend staying at the Disney All Star Resort. It is Disney's Value Resort and you have your choice of a themed resort! You can choose from All Star Music, Movies, or Sports!
If you would prefer a nicer resort, I recommend Coronado Springs, Animal Kingdom Lodge, or the Polynesian Resort. All are fun, beautiful, and are great for kids.

If the All Star is still out of your budget range, I recommend staying at the Best Western Lakeside, located 3 miles from the Disney Parks, on the 192. Their rooms are clean and nice, they have several sparkling pools, an arcade and game room, a nice restaurant, and more! Cost per night is very inexpensive and can be as low as $50 a night.

You can purchase discounted park tickets by visiting your local Disney Store or AAA office. Both sell legitimate discounted park tickets. The discount is small, but AAA and the Disney Store are the only two legitimate ticket sellers other than ordering from Disney directly - which you can do online or by phone. Do not order from Ebay.

The other answers are good. The summer is always nice but getting good reservations are harder.
The hotel are expensive & thats all you get... a room at a rip. I help my family by sharing my condos.
If you need help Ill be glad to get the info for you.
You usually get a better discount by staying a week.
But you can still get a nice 2 bedroom any time for the same most pay for hotels.
My last stay there was a 2 bedroom with a hot tub full kitchen Vcr dvd player ect even discount tickets at th front desk.

Many of us will be able to give you detailed information if we have a little more info. How old is your child? I almost always recommend staying on the monorail unless your child would rather spend time at MGM or Epcot.
A few questions?
1. ask your child which rides he/she would most like to visit.
2. Character meals?
3. Parades?
4. Shopping?
5. What are their interests?

I would definitely recommend visiting after the holidays and before spring break.

go in like january, or febuary. and do it during a work week.
find a nice hotel somewhere a little outside, and buy souveniers from places other than the disney stores and try to avoid eating in the park. its too expensive. have fun!

Stay in Kissimmee its where animal kindom is and its the most popullar park. Kissimmee has less expensive hotels and alot less crimes on tourists. Orlando has crimes! Stay on the fla turnpike (Ronald Regan Hwy) exit 244 just 15 miles S. of Orlando Kissimmee/St Cloud exit. lots of restaurants & hotels.when ur have an idea of travel time call this # 4074982072 ask for clyde's assistant.

You can go DE any time with your child. In DE you will get many resort to stay according to your exception. The Birnbaum Guide is a good start. Also, check out the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World - much more thorough than Birnbaum and you get more than the Disney "party line." I also highly reccomend this website: http://www.tourguidemike.com. The $20 fee for his planning service is WELL worth the money in time and frustration saved.

We went in late September-early October '06, and it was really great. It was off-season, so crowds were quite light, and the weather was gorgeous - 80's and 90's all week - definitely hot enough for swimming. Also, if you go off-season like we did, you may be able to take advantage of some offers designed to draw people at off-season times. For example, we got the dining package FREE with our reservations. That was really fantastic - saved us about $1000.

As for which resort is best, that really depends on your budget and taste. We stayed in one of the value resorts and found it non-fancy but very clean and nice. If you're looking for sheer impressiveness, I reccomend the Animal Kingdom Lodge - truly gorgeous. But, it is out-of-the-way and a long bus ride to the other parks.

I reccomend making all of your dining reservations ahead of time, and be sure to plan some character dining experiences - priceless! If you want to eat at Cinderella's Royal Table in Cinderella Castle and meet the princesses, you must book your reservation 90 days in advance, so plan ahead!

Finally, there are several Disney fan message boards out there in cyberspace. Google this and you will be able to chat with the "experts!"

We went in Feb. & stayed at the SpringHill Suites at Marriott Village. I highly recommend it. There's 3 Marriott hotels right there together with a little courtyard and it's secured. There's a little strip on the property with game rooms and food places. Plus you can swim at any of the 3 hotels. It's very near Disney but far enough that you can "escape" from the atmosphere. And reasonably priced. Also, contact the Orlando visitors bureau, they will send you a packet of info on Orlando and Disney. Have fun!!!

I suggest that you read everything you can, at your local book stores you can find books on disney, there are tons of sites on the Internet that can help you get a good idea of what will work best for your family. Join talk Disney ( link above) its free and a great source of information, I love it.

Simply put, do not go during holidays or the summer season; that's when the parks will be the busiest. January-February is a good time to visit.

As for the resorts, the Port Orleans resorts are considered among the best Disney resorts; they have beautiful landscaping and water activities. The Polynesian Resort offers character dining, as does the Contemporary Resort; the monorail actually runs through the building. Also, Magic Kingdom is within walking distance from the Contemporary Resort. The Grand Floridian Resort is considered the flagship Disney resort; it's a luxurious resort and therefore a bit pricy. The Wilderness Lodge is Disney's most popular resort and houses a working geyser. Fort Wilderness offers two dinner shows and character dining as well as a campfire sing-a-long with Chip and Dale.
