The USA is cultrually boring. Do other Europeans agree? |
I sat on a tourbus in NYC wishing I was somewhere like Rome with beautiful monuments, steeped in history.
All I got were endless boring skyscrapers. It made me appreciate London better. Additional Details I was there a week, went up the Empire State, went to Statue of Liberty, Metro Museum of Art etc. It just lacked something.
I guess I have been spoilt by trips to Venice, Prague and Florence in recent years.
Ironically, I went to college at Texas A&M for 4 years!! Go aggies. |

oh, if only you were only culturally boring. unfortunately, you are culturally imperial and export your bland brands all over europe, to it's regrettable detriment. |

whats the difference between the USA and a yoghurt?
after 100 years, a yoghurt will develop a culture
that said, i have been to New York, Washington DC, Philadelphia and a few places around Florida and have to say i was never once bored, all were great trips. Theres loads of stuff to do, its just that the US is a relatively new country/culture (compared to Europe etc) so it has less history. If you were wanting ruins and monuments then the US wasnt really the place to go! |

It doesn't really have any culture, but it seems every country is turning into America. |

I find it odd that you couldn't find "culture" in America, seeing as how the population there are all from every corner of the world and therefore bring their culture with them. If there's a next time, I would highly recommend getting off the tour bus (geez, I thought everyone knew that a tourbus is NEVER a good idea) and actually seeing the United States. |

Well NYC isnt what the rest of the U.S is like.. There's so much out there.. Boston, Philadelphia, Such historic cities. The Great Lakes...The Grand Canyon, Every single state has numerous things their known for.. Maybe you shouldnt have sat on a tour bus & actually acknowledged, that there is more to this country than everything that's fake in N.Y.C |

Now I've never been to New York, however even I'm aware of the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim amongst other galleries.
There's the Statue of Liberty, there's Greenwich Village, I'd love to go there.
You sound like the sort of person who'd be bored wherever you went. |

i see what you mean .. but i loved it there ....statue of liberty .. central park, times sqaure etc ... it was a pretty cool holiday |

You are confusing architecture with culture. You are also making the usual mistake of looking at Manhatten and assuming all of the USA is just like that (for good or bad).
You need to get out more and do something besides ride a tour bus through NY. |

I'm proud to be Italian! ( BUT I LOVE Great Britain! ) |

I disagree.
A country without culture can't be culturally boring. It's just boring. |

You were on a tourbus......in NY
If you wanted to see buildings with history in a country that is only a few hundred years old come to Williamsburg
The deep south, Savannah or New Orleans
Out here, the museums and shows of LA, trashy Hollywood...the ocean off Pacific Coast Highway |

it's not quite so interesting as other places but it still has a lot to offer. just most of it's history is relatively new etc. plus u know how americans are with shiny things lol |

WOW, what irony.
A "tourist" taking a commercial tour. What on earth did you expect, to see??????
If you really thing you can get the culture of a country by sitting on a tour bus, you have no right to judge a culture.
You should have stayed home and rented a DVD it would have been cheaper. |

just because you thought new york was boaring because of the no history you call it ,dont judge that the rest of the united states boaring go some were like California and places dont just judge because you didn't think that new york wasn't intresting than you thought you did. |

come down to the deep south. alot more cultural aspects than the huge cities with nothing but skyscrapers |
|

Yes it's all too new . perhaps somewhere like Boston might have a bit more culture or the history of the wild west out in the Rockies etc. But as you say European history and culture goes back much further. |

What were you expecting from a teenage nation? Great depth and interest?
They have no heritage, unlike the European and Asian nations,so you can't really hope for fantastic architecture in a historic sense. They do have wonderful scenery though. And some of the engineering feats they have pulled off are on a scale we never experience in Europe.
ie- The Boulder/Hoover dam. How many dams in Europe have a reservoir 260 miles long? |
