Things to do in San Diego?

I'm going to San Diego in August for a couple weeks and my mom and I already decided to drive to Disney Land and to go to Lego Land (haha..) but I was wondering what other fun things we could do there.

I'm unsure about visiting the zoo because I'm not sure if it is one of the more ethical zoos out there.. Can anyone maybe help me confirm if it is or not? =/

Also, I want to find some good shopping areas and just other fun stuff. I don't really like museums though..
Additional Details
And Sea World is definitely a no. I would hate to see dolphins being forced to swim and be confined.

The San Diego Zoological Society is very kind and ethical to their animals, I promise. There is also the Wild animal Park, but I'd stick the zoo, it's closer. Fun places to shop near you are Fashion valley! (go to Nordstrom's Rack)! There is the huge swap meets on Saturday and Sunday if you want to see something different. Mission valley mall is good. Downtown San diego is expensive, but has some really cool stores! (if you go there, do not go by yourself!) If you go up the 5 a little ways to encinitas, there are some really cool shops! La Jolla cliffs is a must see! Lots of restaurants, Coronado island. Sky's the limit girly! :) Have fun!!!

You would probably enjoy the Wild Animal Park....it has large areas where many of the animals can roam around in a more natural environment. This park is located in Escondido (northern San Diego County.

Legoland land is for young children (maybe up to age 10 or so)

Other possibilities:
1. kayaking through the caves in La Jolla (a blast!)
2. ride the ferry from downtown San Diego to Coronado ($3 each way)
3. roast marshmallows on the beach
4. ride the indoor race cars at Miramar
5. shopping at Horton Plaza, Fashion Valley, downtown La Jolla, Seaport Village, Old Town, Hillcrest
6. Watch horse races at Del Mar
7. Play volleyball on the beach.
8. Rent a segway and ride along the beach.
9. Rent jet skis in Mission Bay.
10. Bike along the coast.
11. Hike at Torrey Pines.
12. Explore tide pools at Cabrillo National Monument
13. Watch a spectacular sunset
14. Drive to the top of Mt. Soledad for great views.
15. See a play at the Old Globe in Balboa Park
16. Go the comedy club in La Jolla

(and more!)

I just got back from visiting my brother in San D. and my FAVORITE thing that we did and its a must is Balboa Park. Its not your regular park its HUGE with tons of stuff to do and it was amazing. I did the Zoo AND Animal Kingdom. I "liked" it its just not something i would do again.

One of my other favorite things was we went to Seal Beach where the seala come all the way up on the beach and you get really close i LOVED it!

I had SOOO much fun i hope you do too! The weather is AMAZING and the scenery is incredible! Best of Luck

there are some really pretty gardens and parks in San Diego. And a lot of beaches. Look it up on the internet for San Diego beaches...I've been to some and they are really beautiful. hope you have fun!

The best things to do in San Diego is Lagoland! You can also go to the zoo and ride the coster!

also stop by Old Town!

Rob B
Visit Old Town and take the Trolley Tour. It will take all day if you stop at all of the places but you'll get a good look at the city and hear about the history.

The San DIego Zoological Society is one of the top groups in the world for animal and plant conservation. They have a committment to education and keeping animals in as natural a habitat as possible.

wow. you look pretty hot. anywho, to do something fun in san diego, while a US Navy warship is transitioning through the bay, you should approach it by less than 100 yards and see what happens! that would be so fun.

or go to hillcrest, which is the gay mecca of the west coast, and make fun of queers.

or go to south san diego and make fun of the poor immigrants.

or go to balboa park and smoke a few blunts.

but whatever you do enjoy!

if youre interested in visiting a beach you should go to encinitas and hangout at moonlight beach.. it might be crowded, but its definitely one of the finer beaches in san diego. up the street on encinitas blvd theres good shopping and food between d st and swamis. Just about every beach in san diego is a good beach to go to, but the ones i like to stop by and hangout at are the ones in del mar, carlsbad, la jolla, and encinitas.. any of the beaches in those areas are really nice.

you should go to balboa park and spend a couple of hours there because that park is so huge and theres just so much to do. theres museums and stuff to just gander about over there... theyre not boring either.

the zoo is in that area too, so you should stop by there. and its ethical. the wild animal park is also a good attraction too. its basically just a wild life resort. its located up in the escondido area and its huge. oh and theres a good mall of the exit in escondido, so you can hit that up while youre up there.

another place you should go is belmont park. its an amusment park on mission beach. they have rides, midway games, and some shopping over there. sea world is just around the corner if youre over there. its definitely a great place to go to during the summer. tons of sea critters you can watch and go on some water rides.

if you want to go shopping you should stop by fashion valley... they have a huge mall with tons of places to shop at.
just about any mall in san diego is a good place. downtown san diego has a really good shopping scene too, at horton plaza and around it.

if youre interested into the night scene, you should definitely hit up downtown gaslamp district. its always a party down there.

well thats just about all the fun things i can think of to do down in sd for a tourist, but if you have any other questions just let me know!!

i just got back from san diego you can go to the beach at orange county and the zoo its alright. You can go to the outlets going toward L.A. i forgot the name its really nice

Bridgette S
Belmont Park in Mission Beach is really fun. There is a lot of rides and stuff like that.

skulleχ
You can go downtown and go to the mall. Go to Pacific Beach, especially since it's summer time. Another shopping center is in Mission Valley which is right next to Qualcomm Stadium.

You look hot.

near Legoland there's a shopping mall...I think it's an outlet..but it had a lot of great stores. I actually still have the brochure..it's located at 5620 Paseo Del Norte Carlsbad, Ca 92008. It's right across from a few hotels.

I went to legoland last summer, it was great for my little brother, but for me not as much fun..(I was 15)..there were only a few rides for me...so I ended up going shopping..haha..which isn't far from legoland at all.

also...San Diego has awesome beaches!!! hope you have fun!! :)

beach and find hot guys like omg jk

John R
How about visiting the Marine Museum at the Marine Corps Training Depot? You can go to the main gate and get a day pass to go on base, it's something different to do? There is also the beach to go visit also.
