Hotels are very small rooms,,, and if you get the side of the bed cloest to the bathroom, you can make your way to bed while feeling the wall. SO,,,, put your glasses in your toilet bag, and as you go to "brush your teeth" or "go to the bathroom" before bed, make sure the path is clear.

Take out your contacts, put on your glasses,,,, behind a closed door,,, to do what ever else you need to do. Pack it all up,,, and put your glasses away just before you go out, and "feel" your way to the bed.

You'll see,,, it's easy.

Had to do kind of the same thing with my glass eye. But I just didn't want to gross anyone out.

Since you are leaving soon,,, how about you choosing a best answer before you leave today.

Just wear them. What is the big deal? You're really overreacting.
I know a lot of people that believe Glasses make you seem more intelligent. Personally, I'd rather be known as a nerd, than a slut or a creep. Be yourself. Nerds are cool :)

It's not a big deal to wear glasses. I got contacts in middle school and wore my glasses to school one day for the first time in 10th grade and even though I thought I'd look stupid, but everyone actually complimented me on them.

Glasses do not make you a nerd.
I can guarantee that if anyone says anything it will be something along the lines of "Oh, I didn't know you have glasses."

All of these people are right,,, in that you should not be ashamed of your glasses. However,,, a big band trip, new place, new stuff,,,, maybe it's not the trip to experiment on.

Teenage girls can be a bit catty,,,, and since you are obviously sensitive about your glasses anyway,,, right now,,,,, let's not take any chances on having anything ruin your trip. You know someone is going to say something,,, even if they don't mean to hurt you. It's human nature. And with you being so sensitive,,,, well,,,, it's not a good combo.

Let's just avoid having some shallow girls making fun of you.

It's simple,,, it's do-able,,, and it doesn't put you in a position of possibly being upset.

It's easy for everyone else to tell you that you are irrational, and to be brave,,, and to go for it.,,,,, (which you could do...),,,, but, why don't you save that experience for a sleep over or something,,, when they are on your turf, and you have more control, and more things and family around you for support.

If you are smart enough for jazz band,,,, at least one good enough to go to Chi-town on a trip,,,, you can do it.

Good luck,,,, and don't let anything ruin your good time and the learning experience in front of you.

well so what. loads of people wear glasses these days. its really no big deal. and since you are in a band, im assuming that a lot of the people there wear glasses too?

its not as if your friends will be like "OMG you wear glasses im not going to speak to you ever again" right? if they are like that then maybe they are not really friends...?

dont be scared, if they dont like you for who you are then they cant be real freinds can they, accept that you wearr glasses! its natural.. just like people wear braces! if your really uncomfortable with it, tell your roommates you have to wear glasses in the morning ! be confident about it and mention how gay you think it is, laugh about it & they wont think anything of it.

if they do, ignore them! they cant mean that much to you !

if someone says anything, just laugh it off. if ur roommates are ur friends, i doubt that they will care. if u don't act all embarrassed, people won't pick up on ur fear. good luck and have fun in chicago :)

I bet you will not be alone in this situation. I see many of my daughters friends who are spectacle-free wearing glasses when they spend the night. If you wore glasses in 7th grade I'm sure they know you wear glasses still. There are much more embarrassing inflictions than poor vision!!!

Come over this fear do just take the contacts out and turn the lights off and put the glasses on and go to bed... or if possible not use the glasses at all.

You are in a jazz band so i dont think they are too worried about someone else looking like a nerd.

You're fear is completely irrational. Try not worry about looking dumb with glasses on, because honestly, no one is really gonna think you look any worse with them.
+ Nowadays being a nerd is kinda less of a downer
eg. spiderman, the dude from transformers, dudes in big bang theory = a nerds and scoring chicks.

Why do you have to wear glasses when you take your contacts out.Put them out and then go immediately to sleep.Just don't wear your glasses.I can't think of anything else...

Dear Joanna, I can guarantee your bandmates will accept knowing that you have glasses - jazz kids are the coolest! And Chicago is a blast!!!

I;ve had contacts and glasses since I was a teenager, and it is all cool,
My 3 sons are ALL jazz musicians and we used to live in Chicago! We all miss it so much

But - music makes life good no matter where!

I know this might sound stupid, but have you thought about just not wearing the glasses? I mean, unless you really are as blind as a bat and there's a chance you could seriously hurt yourself as a result of not being able to see, you could just not wear them!
It's a bit strange at first cos everything is really blurry, but you soon get used to it. To avoid getting headaches, don't even ATTEMPT to focus or concentrate on anything... just accept the fact that you will be blind for the next few minutes/hours and live in a world of complete obliviousness.

If that isn't an option, then wear your contact lenses until the very last minute (literally just before you go to bed) and then take them out and go to sleep. The extra couple of hours shouldn't be a problem since you wear contact lenses every day anyway.

And if THAT isn't an option for whatever reason, then just make a joke out of it. Tell your classmates what a complete nerd you look in glasses and then crack jokes and geeks and stuff, and do some immitations of nerds! People will be laughing WITH you, not AT you :)

Depending what type of contacts you were, you may not have to take them out, just make sure you have some re wetting drops on hand. I wear soft lense contacts and I don't always take them out but I carry a bottle of re wetting on me. so if you are that afraid of people seeing you in your glasses problem solved. Now if you are one of the very few people that still wear glass contacts you really have no choice but to take them out every night. What i usually do when I am away from home for a couple days is like I said just have a bottle of re wetting drops, I use them whenever my eyes start to feel scratchy, then after I sleep when I get up in the morning I re wet them again go to the bathroom take them out for a couple minutes and rinse them with a little contact solution put some re wetting drops in my eyes with out the contacts in, then stick the contacts back in works very well for me. hope this helps

Remind yourself that you HAVE to do it. Don't let other people get you down AND don't let them prevent you from doing what you want/have to do. You HAVE to wear your glasses when your contacts aren't in or else you can't see. If they've got a problem with it, **** those superficial kids.

Seriously, don't get worked up over it and if they make comments, just let it go. Just shrug and tell them you need them to see. If their intent is to make you feel bad, if you don't react in a way that will encourage them to keep going, they'll see it doesn't work cuz you can handle what they throw at you. Sometimes people will only point it out just cuz it's something they haven't seen (or haven't seen in a while).

For example, I rarely wear makeup. I didn't start when all the other girls started to when we were kids (I'm 25); I didn't think I needed it. But because I rarely use it, everyone who knows me notices when I put any on. Some people make stupid comments like, "Wow, you're wearing *makeup* today." They make it sound like it's a big deal, but I just shrug it off and say, "Yeah, well, I felt like it today."

When I respond like that, it's not such a big deal. If I said I were trying to impress a guy, then they'd keep going. Don't give them any room to try to give you a hard time.

Some of these answers are okay -- if you REALLY want to inconvenience yourself because of the other girls. Standing up for yourself or not letting their comments get to you work just fine.

You shouldn't be embarrassed of wearing glasses, it's a normal thing. I notice the fact that you said "roommates" so I take it you're not good friends with them.

If that's the case then they probably will make fun of you, but don't let it get to you. If they're not your friends then nothing they say or do should get to you, but if it does you can always tell the teacher.

Or if they are your friends then that shouldn't happen, good friends won't take the mic out of you.

Hi. First of all calm down! : ) You need to realize that probably a lot of your other friends are feeling a little insecure about something too. You're all going to be in the same situation, that is allowing others to see another side of you. Now a days glasses are not nerdy. I remember when I was in school (I'm 40) and they were. It's almost like it's a cool thing. So what, you need to wear glasses everybody has to get glasses at one point in their life. Be confident and know that your friends are not going to tease you or think you're nerdy because you wear glasses. How LUCKY you are to be going to Chicago with your jazz band. Focus on all the positives that the next week is going to bring. These are times you'll never forget. I too was in jazz band we did a trip to L.A... It was awesome, a time I will never forget. Don't let your insecurities over shadow this wonderful time in your life.

The hotel might have internet access.
Just wear your glasses, it's only at night. It's not like you'll be wearing them when the band gets their picture taken.

Just take out your contacts right before you go to bed then, put them back in when you wake up. That way you won't need to wear your glasses in front of your friends.

but maybe you could just wear them up to the point where you're going to bed and take them out at your bedside. put them in their container and crawl in bed. then put them in first thing in the morning. good luck.
