Moved here a year ago. Living here is so much different than vacationing here. I only go to the strip if I have to go. Lost my interest in gambling. Love the weather. The cost of living is cheaper than CA. Hate the traffic conditions here. Love the shopping. Of course it is not perfect. There is good and bad with any place you call home. If the good out weighs the bad then enjoy it.

Everyone thinks it is so perfect because they see only what tourists are meant to see. They do not have the local news in any of the hotels here. Keep it magical and they will keep coming. Just like any tourist location leave all your cares and worries at home and come here and have fun. Just the way it is.

I've lived in Vegas 12 years now, and it's pretty cool. However, the people that party and gamble 24/7 are the tourists. Most locals avoid the strip as much as possible. It's overpriced, overcrowded, and believe it or not, gets boring after a coupla weeks. There is much more to vegas than casinos. It has some of the most beautiful desert scenery in the world surrounding it, Lake Mead is great if you like boating, fishing, etc. And if you get in the right industry, the pay aint too bad! If you are in sales, education, nursing, or construction, you can pretty much write your own ticket. However, Vegas is growing at an incredible rate, and with growth comes problems. Traffic can be horrendous, if you have children, the education isn't all that great (overcrowded, not enough teachers), and the crime is getting worse all the time. I jokingly call Vegas Northeast LA. The housing is ok, and is actually getting better. Developers overbuilt, selling houses to anyone that wanted them a couple of years ago. This resulted in a HUGE forclosure trend. Now, if you have decent credit, you can get some great deals. Overall, Vegas is a nice place to live, but it is far from perfect.

LET ME TELL YOU, IT'S FAR FROM PERFECT, WE HAVE FAR TOO MANY GANG-BANGERS, TOO MUCH CRIME, AND IF YOU HAVE LIVED HERE A WHILE YOU STAY AWAY FROM THE STRIP!!! Ive lived here in las vegas almost 10 years. I love it. Yet when family and/or friends come visit, they think my home is a free hotel and want me to miss work or be late so we can party as if thats all we locals do supposably. (I live in Las Vegas and visit the strip maybe 2-3 times a year.) I cant do that, I have to work regardless of which city I live. AS far as everything else goes, the area I live is a farely newer community and new business and ideas arise all the time, and the best thing is, this place is allways running 24/7....

I just moved here a little over a year ago. I'm somewhat anti-norm, so it's not that cool of a place. The weather is great, at all times. Drinks are very cheap, no last call, buy liquor at grocery stores 24 hours. I guess I'm somewhat of a drinker. It's nice for hiking, and there's a 2 hour drive in any direction toward some national site. I only go down to the strip when someone flies to visit me (which people do, because you now live in vegas). The cost of living is high, but wages are adjusted. I don't plan on staying here the rest of my life though. UNLV is very cheap if you are looking for a Bachelor's or and Associates degree.

i was born in vegas, i do get tired of ppl saying that stuff, i havent met anybody that wants to live there, ppl think its perfect because it is an adults paradise, they think they can do whatever they want. idiots

I have been in Vegas almost 40 years and I love it. But there is a regular city away from the neon lights of The Strip or Downtown. yes, there are local casinos in the areas of home developments.

The problem is people think they have the right strategy to win, that food and lodging is free, and prostitution is legal; all which are obsurd. Locals do not gamble every day or they would be broke and living on the street with all the homeless bums who think they can get a free ride here, i.e., welfare, housing, food.

Locals general do not frequent Strip casinos nor go to lots of shows. Locals like to go to movies, bowl, go to church, dances, dine, etc., just like any other folk from any other American City.

If you like your city, it is perfect. I love mine though we do not have four seasons, a beach, or amusement parks. Visitors are great but it is nice when they run out of money or vacation time and go home!

I've been here in Las Vegas for 20 years. People that visit seem to think the only businesses here are casinos. They think there is no "real " town/life other than casinos. I love the people on line that say "do you have grocery store?" Yes this place is far from perfect but it's been very good to us. I think lots of people think they can just show up in Las Vegas , money and a job will jump into their arms and they will be able to live the imaginary live they dream of. Well it doesn't happen like that! If you want it you have to work hard for it!

I live there part-time every year (3 to 6 months) and can tell you that it is NOT a rose garden all the time. Life can be just as hard as any where else in the country. It all depends on how successful you want to be too. Sure the Strip is usually a party heaven as it should be! But go a little further in any direction and you will see life as usual all around.

I live here. & There really isn't that much to do here, but gamble or drink...... I own horses & it isn't much of a horse town. We are here just for work.

I personally dont get tired of it because I am normally around people who live there and dont talk about it. I dont think it is a perfect place to live but it is ok. I think everyone thinks its perfect because you can gamble all the time, but truth is when you live here you dont think of gambling.

I live in Henderson the next town from LV but work in LV> Love this place just got a new home There is a sense of community here. Great school and good job opportunities for all. Like my friends and love this weather.

i dont live there but i was there 3 weeks ago, it has stuff for people who cant go other places, it has europe, africa, and it is really fun

I have family in Vegas - when I am visiting I am only a little interested in the Strip. Takes some getting used to seeing slots in every 7-11.

The rest of it, where the people live, looks like any suburban sprawl place growing rapidly with little direction in the desert would anywhere. Like nay big city, there are good neighborhoods and bad neighborhoods, but there seems little to prevent anyone from moving to a new place - it is changing so rapidly there is not really a historic sense of neighborhoods anywhere.

I agree with the other poster that the hiking spots can be very intriguing and fun. Take me where there is open space to roam :)
