Just to clear a few things up, there ARE 13 confirmed cases and 17 probably cases in South Carolina. I wouldn't be concerned about traveling here, but I would be cautious and just be sure to get yourself some hand sanitizer. |

Unless you are going to Mexico, I would not panic and cancel any flights. |

Why wouldn't you go? You say the flu is everywhere, so it's probably in your neighborhood right now. Your chances of getting the flu are about the same traveling within the US as it would be staying home. I could see if you were taking a vacation to Mexico. But from Chicago to South Carolina? What's the problem? You can just as easily get the flu going to the corner store. Just take your trip, keep you tickets and have a good time. |

You could just as easily catch it in Chicago standing next to someone who is contagious in line at the grocery store as you can by going to South Carolina, so why cancel your trip over it?
Just take the precautions you can like washing your hands or using an alcohol based sanitizer before you eat or put your fingers around your nose or mouth. If someone sneezes or coughs near you, turn your head away from them and and cover your mouth and nose to try to avoid breathing anything in. |

You don't have to worry! More people die from the regular flu every year then the Swine Flu. You can get it anywhere but the chances are low that you will get it, even from being on an airplane. You should still take precautions tough. Take some purell with you. |

If you're that worried what is your health worth?
If you decide to travel get some surgical gloves and a mask or hold your breath for a few hours. Change and wash clothes when you arrive...take a hot shower. |

It's a created pandemic. Over 3000 people a year die from the flu. NO ONE has yet died from Swine flu. Relax and enjoy your vacation. |

The Swine Flu is already in Chicago and I don't even think there have been any reported cases in South Carolina. Also, it's the f***in' flu...the media is blowing this thing WAY out of proportion. MRSA is a much deadlier disease turning to a pandemic, yet that's not on the news half as much as the Swine Flu. Most people who get the Swine Flu get cured by it anyways...there are more important things to worry about. |

Here's the deal with swine flu: last year, 36,000 people died from flu in the U.S. (check out the CDC's website). Not Swine flu, mind you. Just plain old everyday flu. So are you gonna change your travel plans every flu season? Heck I bet you didn't even know this so why change your lifestyle over media hype. Just be sure to wash your hands often. |

As long as you're not going to Mexico, then go! Don't waste your money, you're just going to SC. |

First off your probably more likely to catch swine flu in Chicago than in South Carolina since we already have reported cases and they don't. Plus about 30% of our population is illegal immigrants from Mexico. Sure they aren't all recent from Mexico but many go back and visit so there's a higher chance of them bringing it back here as well.
That said the media is blowing this out of proportion. Mexico healthcare is a joke, they won't admit sick people into their hospitals so no surprise people are dying. This flu is actually not as bad as some common forms of the flu virus, sure it sucks to get the flu but this isn't the plague they have made it out to be, it makes sensational news though.
If you were going to Mexico City or Cancun I would say cancel but no need to cancel your trip. |

I've lived in Conway, South Carolina for over three years, originally from Ottawa, Il. My wife and I have just gotten over the flu but it wasn't Swine. I believe a lot of this TV reporting is sensationalism.

If you're relatively healthy I wouldn't worry.
There has been one death - a 23 month old. Death is only a concern if you have a low tolerance to illness - people with AIDS should use caution.
If you're really worried you could list the tickets on Craigslist.
And as of today there are 17 CONFIRMED cases of swine flu in the Chicago area so you may have greater chance of catching it by staying here.
And reports I have seen - the masks are good for not spreading germs to others, but they are useless in preventing the wearer from catching diseases. |

Yes there have been some college students from Newberry College in SC who just got back from Mexico whom reportedly have the "swine flu"- they and everyone who has come in contact with them have been told to voluntarily isolate themselves. There is no pandemic in SC because of a few college students- they are saying 22 have been exposed- that is no reason to panic. I live in SC and believe me there is no pandemic here and I am not worried.
I would be more worried about flying on a plane than coming to SC. You could always wear a mask? |
