The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world. U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms.
On a per-capita basis, Yemen had the second most heavily armed citizenry behind the United States, with 61 guns per 100 people, followed by Finland with 56, Switzerland with 46, Iraq with 39 and Serbia with 38.
However, Finland and Switzerland have some of the lowest gun crime rates in the world. So I believe the US gun crime rate is cultural. |

I love guns and it's good to stock up on them because it makes people whine about it. If people didn't have guns there would be stabbings. If they didn't have knives there would be beatings. It's the idiots with the weapons and not the weapons that cause the crime. |

I suggest that you, when presented with such communist propaganda, ask your friend for proof of the information presented. It is clear to me that you are intelligent and doubt its accuracy.
Like the vast majority of Americans, I use my guns to prevent crime not commit it. |

I don't think you can compare statistics of other nations.
Look at the middle east, when countries do their celebratory fire and shoot in the air. Talk about brandishing a firearm! Plus the bullet has to come down somewhere and damage some property....or worse--wound/kill someone.
They break those laws and committ gun-related crimes all the time.
For the record, I have three guns and haven't broken any laws. Don't believe everything you hear. America isn't a "terrible country" just because there are a few murders and we have the right to bear arms. |

I live in USA and own 4. Never used for crime. Only to protect my dwelling and family. I would like more training for hunting. You have crime everywhere you go in the world. Some areas are real bad. South St. Pete Florida and Detroit Michigan are very bad with gun crime that I have seen in person. But I see worse on videos via the internet in other countries. |

Why is gun crime worse than any other crime? Don't you know propaganda when you read it?
The corrupt government wants our guns. That's always a bad sign. Can't you see the US government is going a little bad? Thanks for siding with them wherever you're from... When the "globalists" come for your country... blame yourself. The American people could stop this or let it happen. You'd be wise to root for freedom to live and the American people to win. |

probably. but remember this, would you rather get shot and immediately killed most of the time or would you rather get stoned to death, beaten with clubs, or tortured. like in third world countries. hmmm. i'll take the gun please. |

Because we actually catch and prosecute the criminals. In other countries when you get robbed only the bad people have guns. The police for the most part are not corrupt like in most other countries. We have laws and enforce them. In other countries there is much more crime but they never get caught. so the statistics dont add up to the reality. |

Based upon homicides (4 in 100,000) and suicides (5 in 100,000) relating to guns, it would appear to be true. We are the only country that has a constitution that allows everyone to own one (or any number); with exceptions.
I received my first rifle when I was 5. My father had at least 8 firearms and carried a pistol everywhere he went (legally) and kept one under his pillow. We were taught how to treat them, clean them and the rules, such as never point one at someone that you do not intend to shoot. He was very responsible with his guns and the training he provided his children.
Guns do not kill people; people do. It is a choice to fire a gun and anyone who cannot make a responsible choice in any given situation should not have one. Parents who do have them, should do as my father did and explain what they are for and what they are not for. Hiding one away and not discussing it with the family is not a good choice. Everyone in the family should know that there is a gun, when it can be used and that they are not to be touched without adult supervision.
Guns are a fact and they aren't going away. Criminals have them and so should the public to protect themselves and for hunting (although I do not subscribe personally to hunting). There may be a day that our Country might be invaded as we have done to others. In that case, it would be prudent to be armed. And, if someone really wants to kill another, they will do it, with or without a gun. |

I've not heard that statistic.
But I have two...for protection against the bad guys :o) |

nope, per person swizetland has the most, something like one in 2 people own a gun, and as theres fewer people that live there, theres less guns but more people own one.
as for worst gun crime, mexico id think has worse, over 2 and half thousand people died in drug wars last year |

we have the worst gun crime in the world because it is so hard for the public to get guns, a criminal can go into a school and shoot up anybody without fearing retribution, because he knows that nobody carries guns anymore... if more people had guns, insane killers would be stopped before the killed a fraction of the people they did..(ex:) V Tech & Columbine |

Just beucase we may possibly have as mant guns in the world per person doesn't mean that we have the worst gun crime rate in the world. We have hunters (*for example*) that go and hunt deer, moose, antalope, ect.. Personally my family owns bout' 15 guns.... That doesn't mean that I go out and shot every one... |

well, the fact its the biggest country who allow guins might have a big factor in the statistics |
|

it's not 42......

Nope, I'm pretty sure that (perhaps surprisingly) Switzerland has the most guns per capita in the world. Perhaps not surprisingly, then, that it also has one of the world's highest suicide rates and rates of death through domestic shootings. Practically all young Swiss men have a weapon, often issued during national service, which they are allowed to store at home. Hmmm........could there be a link? |

Ask them in Columbia and Venezuela.. they seem to be wanting a shooting war there is where all the guns are; the amount of ammo Central America alone could probably finance the middle east if they re-loaded. |

of developed nations probably we do i would assume places like columbia are worse |

The reasons are layered: part of it is our enormous population and the amount of freedom we have compared to the few other nations with our kind of population. The rest of it is cultural, in terms of violence in the entertainment industry and the deep way in which conflict is rooted in our culture, stemming from the basic economic theory of a free market system that embraces conflict as a way of life, then utilizes it for the sake of greed. |

Unfortunaly, yes the USA has one of the highest gun owning percentage per people in the world. This is a misinterpretation of the US constitution who required citizen to own gun because of the fight against England. Years have passed and the gun industry has boomed. They have a porwerful lobby group and they have been able to maintain the gun laws. The connsequences are therefore pretty destructive in the USA society, especially in poor areas. But the fact of the matter is that every country has its problems and that's one issue Americans have never been able to find a compromise. |
