Vacation Suggestions?

I need ideas for a vacation that is within 4 hours driving time of Salt Lake City. I would prefer somewhere that is relaxed, not too expensive, and good to take my family (young kids) but is not too busy so we can "get away from it all." Any ideas?

In my experience, there wasn't too much where I wanted to go that was 4 hours from SLC. If you don't mind an extra hour of driving I would recommend going to Las Vegas. A lot of those hotels and resorts are setup to adhere to family vacationing. If you go at the right time of year, hotel rooms are very affordable and there is a lot your family can do in that area.

It depends on what time of year you're going and what weather you're looking for.

Idaho Falls. I love Idaho Falls. Born and raised there. You could go skiing or snowboarding at Targhee. Love that place. You could go to Yellowstone.

Mt. Charleston north of Las Vegas, also Red Rock Canyon, west of Las Vegas.

Catalina Island of the coast of Los Angeles. It's easy to get to, relaxing, fun and you will get away from it all.

Well if you want to "get away from it all," I don't recommend Vegas; it can be very busy and HECTIC at times.

How about: the Yurt in Mill Creek Canyon?

Go to a hotel or motel in the city you live in and do all of the 'tourist stuff' you never do because you live there. My husband and I did this last year, and we're doing it again this year, because we only had five days and we didn't get time to do everything ... and we may do it every year, but in a different city because we are moving next year ... and we like the 'oddness' of our vacation, and so do our friends who get the 'postcards' we send them!
