if you get caught...you will be deported...if you don't have a greencard then you can't work in the U.S. anyway so why would you want to stay

I think you can get financial assistance with that.( be creative, babysit,house keeper etc) There are also volunteer lawyers/paralegals if you meet a certain income level, they can help you along in the process. You could file on your own if you don't have big issues. You need to study very carefully following the filing instructions and gathering all required documents.

If they find out you're here, and you don't have any other reason to be here (like you're fleeing from your government) then yes, they will deport you.

They will have you on a list and if they find you, yes you can be deported. You risk trouble not getting your green card and even though you may not have a problem you will always feel uneasy and worry. You won't be able to work unless it is illegally with no protection from the employer taking advantage of you as they will use your illegal status to bully you. Do yourself a favor and take the time needed to get it for your own peace of mind. Sorry about the financial issue, I can relate as many of us can and wish you well.
