WHY do people hate Texas??

I didn't like it when I first moved here 10 years ago, but you know what, I am proud to be here! I was born here and then moved all over the world, but I came back and I am DAMN proud to be here! So why do "outsiders" find us sooo weird/nasty??

THis isn't really an answer to your question but I thought of it while reading the respones...Have you heard the new Budweiser "We Salute You" commercial? It is too proud of Texas Guy. It is hilarious! Yankee Wussies! LOL! So there are 49 other states? what do we care? Amen!

Proud to be from Austin!!!!

Oh yeah, and probably one one the reasons they hate us is our portrayal in the media! We always look like stupid cowboys. Heard of Walker Texas Ranger, George Bush, Dixie Chicks, Anna Nicole? See my question on this issue and respond!

Texas is a big state that kind of has a culture unto itself. I can also imagine that some people also get irritated with the "Texan pride" that seems to be fairly commonplace. Having said that, I lived in Texas for six months and I had a great time. I have lived in two other southern states - Georgia and South Carolina - and if I had to choose between the three I'd definitely go with Texas. Texas has a lot to offer. Even in the middle of nowhere, the sand dunes were awesome. San Antonio is a lovely city and the music culture in Austin is wonderful. Heck, I even liked San Angelo. Not the best shops, but I still had fun.

Judging the state based on one person (I saw that several people cited George W.) is just silly. Would you hate Washington just because a prominent political leader who you didn't agree with came from Seattle? I'd certainly hope not.

I wish I knew. I moved to Colorado for a couple of years. When I first got there, I was a little lost, so I went into a convenience store to ask directions. I said, "Can you please tell me where Im at"? The guy said, yea, your in colorado and what part of Texas are you from? I mean, please, Im not so stupid that I cant figure out that I was in Colorado. But he was so rude to me. And they complain about us on the radio for not being able to drive in snow. I wanted to call that staion and say hey jackass, we only have ICE once a year maybe so we dont get a whole lot of practice....asshole! Who knows why other states dont like us. Maybe because the "Bush's" come from here. I dont know, but I aint never leavin! lol

I don't think it's that people dislike Texas...I'm in Canada and I've never visited, but I'd like to, to see how it is. I would imagine it's probably very different--ie., I watched a tv show once where a visitor in Texas had a difficult time finding sushi to eat. Aside from food I would also wonder about the main forms of leisure activity and the geography. Is it too hot to spend much time outside? Does Texas have many lakes or rivers? Forests? These may be some of the questions I would ask in preparing for a visit, though of course I wouldn't dislike a place I had never visited and in essence knew nothing about.

I don't hate Texas, I've never been there, but I don't hate it, people that hate other states probably haven't been there, some people don't like Tennessee, we moved here two years ago from Indiana and we love it here. I'm sure the people in Texas are just as friendly as they are here, love the Southern hospitality.

All My exs live in Texas :D

I used to live in Austin. It was way too hot for my taste but I liked it and I like Texans. My hubby is a Texan...I'm a California girl, born and raised. (Sierra Nevada mountains)

Ignorant people just like to find stuff to dislike. Ignore them; they aren't worth the attention!

I think everyone has pride in their state. Texans just seem to have a bit more than others, and that bugs people who aren't from there. If people hate it because they have actually been to Texas, then it may just have been the part of the state that they visited. Texas is HUGE, and depending on where you go, the people are very different.

Personally, I like Texas. I'm busting my butt to get into grad school at UT. Austin is by far the coolest city I've EVER been to, and I've been to a lot of different cities.

i live in texas. i like it hear, but at times it frustrates me that there is nothing to do. if i was given a choice to move, i would still stay here. i live in plano, which is a pretty nice enviroment.

They're just jealous!!! Texas is the coolest place ever and I would never want to live anywhere else. "It's like a whole other country!"

☆Asian♡star☆
I live in Texas too. I had to move for a few years and I came back. well changes has happened with people's attitude. I couldn't believe how many people can be rude. It is not only one particular race/culture and age.......I am convinced that life is 10% of what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our ATTITUDES.

Well, I don't think everyone hates Texas...just some people from there! Those who are simple minded, arrogant, stuck up, close minded, the list goes on.

Here is a great example....

"It's simple... they fear us. We are obviously superior in almost every way. They don't realize the power in Texas, You do know we can Legally Suceed from the United States don't you?"
