There really are a lot of things to do in Seattle even if (and the chances are good, it is raining.) This may sound a bit cheesy but a GREAT way to start out your visit is by riding the ducks...
http://www.ridetheducksofseattle.com/main.htm you will get the whole tour of the main spots that can't be missed, after seeing everything you can decide what places stuck out to you, I would definitely recommend going to Pike's Place to walk around so you can catch a flying fish yourself and go into the first Starbucks ever...yes they are still serving coffee!
Right Across from the Ride the Ducks lot is the Experience Music Project, a very weird looking building you won’t miss it http://www.emplive.org/ you can check that out and it is walking distance if you want to go up in the Space Needle as well.
If you end up in Pioneer Square: The heart of downtown…
If you are a history fan you have to do the underground tour http://www.undergroundtour.com/ I was dragged to this a few years ago and I loved it...AND it spits you out in the heart of Pioneer Square where there are tons of bars and good restaurants in walking distance.
It is hard to say what type of food you can't miss in Seattle because we are lucky enough to have a melting pot of international food. If you are from a more inland area you have to have the Seafood! Anthony’s on the water is good, a bit pricey though…the boardwalk will yield options if you want to walk that.
There are tons of things to do so I hope I didn’t bog you down! If you start with the duck tour you may be able to see what direction you want to take! Enjoy this makes me miss home! |

Walk up the waterfront and Myrtal Edwards Park. Then walk up to Pike Street Market and 1st Ave from the waterfront area. Pioneer Square just down from Safeco Field on 1st Ave has, or used to have, an underground tour. They boardered over part of the streets and had an extensive underground market area. Wander past the houseboats on Lake Union. The Space Needle is fun to look at but not worth the trip up to the top. Wander through China town. You gotta eat at Tai Tungs. It is a tradition in Seattle. Should you have ever heard of him, Bruce Lee trained in a dojo just across the street from there. Have fun. |

Definitely do the Needle, Pike's Market, the Aquarium and the little shops in that area.
Then go to Fremont and see the troll under the bridge.
Take a ferry ride.
Drive into the country south of there and see the rain forest.
Mt Rainer is not too far away, good day trip if the roads are open. |

visit the space needle & seattle center. also the...shoot, whats it called... musical expirience...i dunno but its an awesome building and located by the seattle center. take a tour on those ride-a-duck thingys! sounds dorky but you'll learn a lot! the aquarium is pretty great! too bad you won't be there for bumbershoot i think its in the summer. oh and ever been to the cheesecake factory? thats good stuff. If ur in to shopping then try sephora, quicksilver, a three-story old navy, and a 3 story american eagle are near depending on how old you are. oh and if ur a coffee lover like me, then visit the original starbucks, or at least one of them. after all there about every block. hope that helps! p.s. all of the above are located pretty close, and are in about every guide book for seattle! |

The Space needle is great. Argosey cruises is a nice tour boat that is not too long, and it sails from the pier downtown behind Pike Market. You must go to the market!
if you love outdoors Mt. Raineer is 1-2 hours from here and is wonderful too. :) |

Pike Place Market. Go on a day cruise on Elliot Bay (Argosy). Go to Discovery Park, Space Needle (if it is clear). Go to the San Juan Islands on a Washington State Ferry. Go to the Boeing Tour (Everett). If it was summer I would suggest some hiking. Snoqualmie Falls is nice in April, because the Flow is good. |

if you like music make sure to visit EMP at the seattle center..asian art museum at volunteer park..frye art museum on first hill..take atrip to west seattle to see seattle from the totem site..take the harbour tour into lake union..or a ferry ride to bainbridge and walk aroun d the town..visit the burke museum at university of washington and go to the fountain for a really different, kind of 3D view[it makes the mountain seem so much closer than any other view you can get] of mount rainier..take the #2 or#13 metro bus to queen anne hill and see downtown seattle from kerry park on highland street, walk 4 blocks west to a view of elliot bay, the cascade and olympic mountains to the west....add the usual trip to the pike place market, a stroll down the waterfront, a trip to green lake to see or walk around the lake with the locals eating some spuds fish and chips while you are there..also to ballard to see the boats go through the locks...you can make the EMP, spaceneedle and trip to keery park all in one trip, as its all in the queen anne area...have fun.... |

I second Fremont and the troll, China Town, and the ferry ride. As for places to go on the ferry, the rain forest is awesome but definitely a whole day or more trip - oh, and it might well be raining an inch a day in April :) The San Juan islands would make a really nice destination, too; they're really pretty with a sort of small town, B and B feel.
I recommend eating at Anthony's Homeport on the waterfront. There's canooing and paddle boating on Green Lake and Lake Washington, I think - that's tons of fun!
Have fun! |
