Dumbest things I have heard. New Orleans can not rebuild (the Netherlands are twice below sea level as we are) so New Orleans can rebuild with hurricane 10 wall (like they have in the Netherlands).

Second dumbest: Bush had nothing to do with it. HA HA Just like he has nothing to do with high gas prices.

Third, some people still think some part of New Orleans is under water. :( Are you kidding)

Lastly, Bush said he would do whatever it took to rebuild New Orleans, than we ask him for money, and he said he has done enough.

The dumbest thing I heard was it was God's vengeance because of the liberal attitude toward gay persons in the us. Sounds like if that was the the case NO took one for the team.

There is so much ignorance in this world it is amazing we humans have lasted as long as we have. That's what my cat says anyway

Lots has been said but I guess the fact that questions are still currently being posted over 2 years later asking if the city is still flooded would have to be the dumbest thing.

All I can say is hopefully each person does what they can to educate people in a positive way that new orleans is back and here to stay.

The stupidest thing that i have heard about Katrina is that it was Bush's fault. These people outta be shipped to the moon that blamed Bush.

Many dumb things people say are the result of not understanding why there is a city/port on the Mississippi River close to the Gulf of Mexico. They think New Orleans is optional when the opposite is true.

Other dumb comments are the result of not understanding the scale of the disaster. For example, nova_queen_28 thinks Katrina affected only a small area.

The worst are from people who can't think, like harry k (who simply ignores historical fact and insists NOLA is prone to being struck by hurricanes) and nova_queen_28 (who first blasts the people who didn't evacuate, and then claims she would have stayed if her dog couldn't evacuate).

We only know what the media showed us and it looked pretty general to me. They didn't portray any wealthy people caught in waist high water or on roofs waiting to be rescued. And what really bothered me is all the pets chained up without a chance. They should have been untied at least and given a chance.
However it was portrayed, it was an American Tragedy.

When Katrina hit what hit me the hardest is when our own president said he wouldn't put it as high priority since there was only poor people and high crime rate. Like he was some ultimate judge on who lives, dies, and is rebuilt. Then sends them trailers like he's calling them trailer trash. It was insulting to the whole country! It's the president who encouraged all the bad press by saying what he did about all the people who lives down there.
I'll be glad to see him get out of office!

The dumbest thing is that people blame Bush for everything immediately prior to and after Katrina hit. Ray Nagin had the responsibility as written in the City Charter...you would think that as mayor, he would have at least READ it.

The other equally most dumb thing surrounding Kat was that the idiot was re elected as mayor of chocolate city! And I was promised that Moon's boy had it in the bag!

While I don't think this counts to directly answer your question, I will tell you what I saw/heard, and what I think.
I've heard that NO is below sea level and sinking. That makes me wonder if it is worth rebuilding and letting people live there, but for the history I think it should be preserved and some attempt to protect it from future harm should be made. Again, I question if people should be allowed to return to live there.
Watching on TV, I saw alot of people sitting around waiting for rescue and demanding that others/government "do something" and "come get them". If I was down there I'd have packed a bag and started walking/swimming. I'm not stupid so I realize some people were elderly or incapacitated and couldn't do this. But I also saw alot of very able-bodied people standing around doing nothing to help themselves and their friends, family & neighbors.
I also know of some families who are from NO that got out of the area before the storm hit. So if some people had a clue to get out of town, I think everyone had some warning.
I blame the government for all the animals that ended up left behind. It is horrible. I would rather die with my dog than leave her behind in such a situation. The government definitely needs to do something to change its game-plan if another storm like this hits.
I don't think "low" of the people in NO. I am aware that there are alot of good people there who were displaced from their homes. I just question what some people did and I wonder if rebuilding is the best idea.
Also, not being from or having visited NO, I don't know if maybe only a section of the city is really endangered or what.

The Dumbest thing is that they are going to rebuild in the flood prone areas. Why on earth are they rebuilding in areas that are below sea level????????????

New Orleans not prone to hurricanes???? You need to lay off the pot or start taking your meds.
