Have no idea. Perhaps people enjoy creating posting names based on their favorite California cities (even if they spell them wrong)?

A bit of a stupid question, because...

...there isn't a single city, village, town, township, etc. in California named Bellaire. So, how can Bellaire, Texas be considered wannabe California?

http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/SAFFPopulation?_event=Search&_name=bellaire&_state=&_county=bellaire&_cityTown=bellaire&_zip=&_sse=on&_lang=en&pctxt=fph

...there isn't a single city, village, town, township, etc. in California named Bay City. So how can Bay City, Texas be considered wannabe California?

http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/SAFFPopulation?_event=Search&_name=bay+city&_state=&_county=bay+city&_cityTown=bay+city&_zip=&_sse=on&_lang=en&pctxt=fph

...there isn't a single city, village, town, township, etc. in California named Baytown. So how can Baytown, Texas be considered wannabe California?

http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/SAFFPopulation?_event=Search&_name=baytown&_state=&_county=baytown&_cityTown=baytown&_zip=&_sse=on&_lang=en&pctxt=fph

Furthermore...
Albany, California (population 16,000) is wannabe New York (Albany population 94,000).
Anderson, California (population 11,000) is wannabe Indiana (Anderson population 58,000).
Beaumont, California (population 21,000) is wannabe Texas (Beaumont population 112,000).
Fairfax, California (population 7,000) is wannabe Virginia (Fairfax population 22,000).
Ferndale, California (population 1,000) is wannabe Michigan (Ferndale population 21,000).
Jackson, California (population 4,000) is wannabe Mississipp (Jackson population 178,000).
Lincoln, California (population 33,000) is wannabe Nebraska (Lincoln population 239,000).
Newark, California (population 42,000) is wannabe New Jersey (Newark population 281,000).
Plymouth, California (population 1,000) is wannabe Minnesota (Plymouth population 70,000).
Richmond, California (population 102,000) is wannabe Virginia (Richmond population 194,000).

More examples? LOL

Moose
Everybody is a copy of Everyone. Bellaire is a borough of Queens in New York City... Maybe they existed before anyone.

Bay City also exists in Michigan, Oregon and Wisconsin (There is no Bay City, California...) There is no other town in the US with the name "Baytown".

bazzmc
This is a stupid question. There's a huge freakin' bay right next to Houston called Galveston Bay. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to name a city next to a bay "Baytown". I don't see how it's a ripoff of California.

Chris K
i think Texas came before California, so HA!

nympho
Umm I live In California and I think your question is stupid. I think everyone can agree with me on that one. &!%@#

Zippy
Pasadena?

hey, Houston has a BAY too, you know (Galveston, Port of Houston, Gulf of Mexico.... ring any bells?)

that's what's up with the BAY names....

{Clear Lake is actually a muddy bay}

txhypnotist
If you think about it. California stole those names from Texas!

Just check your history and you will see.

All towns have a main street, a 2nd street, and one named after toothpaste.(Colegate).
