Pacific Grove, California near Monterrey and Carmel. One of the prettiest places in the country/world. Cool, beautiful sea shore, deer running through town, historic feeling. Monarch butterflies winter there. The 50th Monterey Jazz festival will be near there in September--one of the best.

May not be the best place if you're looking for a high energy spot.

San Diego....the weather is great. It's a large, clean city with beautiful scenery and lots to do. Learn more about things to do in San Diego at http://www.sandiego-romantics.com

Washington D.C. unless of course you actually live there.

I would go to San Francisco, CA because I am never been there and I would like to go in.

Boston in the winter....I love it.

Philadelphia. There are lots of things to do there no matter what you're into. (besides eating cheese steaks)

Atlanta, been a few times, Charlotte, NC. I guess I can't count Philly, since that's my hometown and I used to live there, but I'll say Philly brings added meaning to no place like home...

Niagra Falls is great but the canadian side is really the nicest to see and to get over the border you now need a passport.
Pensacola Beach Fl is great also, its a smaller beach and the people are great there. You can also wander into Pensacola and look around.

Charleston. Beautiful, rich in history, and developing a nice downtown scene.

I'm not sure about a clearcut favorite but here are some cities that I have enjoyed a visit to

Kansas City, MO/Kansas City KS. The two cities hover right next to eachother divided by only a road aptly entitled "State Line road." KC has all of the ammenities of most major US cities, but at the same time it also seems slower and more laidback compared to most major cities along the east coast. When I was there it seemed to me like KC was my kind of city for the most part.

If you like baseball, Kauffman Stadium is a beautiful venue worth checking out. If you like history, the KC, MO side has a meuseum entirely devoted to world war 1. If you like steak, and can't find good restaraunt for steak in Kansas City, you have put yourself WELL out of luck.

However for you, not knowing whereabouts in the US you live, I'd recommend DC. There's a lot to see and do in the nation's capitol with all of it's meuseums and of course the White House, Capitol Hill, etc. I live right outside of Baltimore, I've only actually been IN DC perhaps a handfull of times in my life at best, but obviously it's an easy place to target as a roadtrip for anyone that lives relatively close.

I agree with the rest. San Francisco along with Chicago. Have't been to New York or Boston yet.

San Fransisco around thanksgiving. Nothing better than fresh dungeonus crab with some hot sourdough bread.
