What State Would Be Right For Me? Please Read? |
This is what I want from a state:
-Cold snowy winters
-Decent homes for under $400K
-Coziness
-Small town
-Not outrageously high taxes (Not a high priority though...I'd be willing to sacrifice this preference if the rest are met)
-Animal Friendly
-Green (Or at least not completely brown & dry like DFW texas)
I wanted to move back to NJ for the longest time, but something in my heart is begging for a fresh start. Additional Details I own an online based company...so job market really doesn't effect me at all..
And im not asking for a forest of trees, I just want a few more than just a few in the nieghborhood haha |

See my nick! I want many of those things, too, so I am returning home to Carlisle, PA soon, after too many years in the big city. It's a great place, with all those attributes, beauty, culture, a nice college and law school. It's a county seat, historic, and just plain great! And I hope to be able to move back soon. |

Try Fargo, North Dakota.
It is the biggest city (140,000 metro pop) in the state, and it's still growing.
Plenty of snow, and wide open spaces.
Housing market is stable, and affordable.
Friendly and tolerant people.
College town (3 universities) lots to do.
Taxes are low, as is unemployment.
Lived there for 4 years, and I still go back. |

You want to live in Montana! It has everything you want. The winters are have lots of snow but not too long. I live in Minnesota now and the humidity makes the snow and cold unbearable. Montana has not sales tax! It is like getting an average of 7% more for your money. It has the realest people of all the states I have lived in. There is not a lot of phony people there. What you see is what you get. I recommend Billings. It has great shopping and places to eat but it is still small. The cost of living is well below the average. You can get a pretty nice home for under 200K. Oh, and the animals....I don't know anyone who does not have a dog there. The last thing is the green part. Glacier Park is the backyard of Montana and it is the prettiest and greenest place on earth. Seriously, it looks like a dream. Does that help! Look at Great Falls too, it has a lot to offer and it is close to Canada. I loved going up to Canada for vacations. The Edmonton Mall was amazing. When I went to the "Mall of America" I was very dissapointed.
If MT does not interest you look at Utah. I lived there for a few years after leaving MT and it was awsome too. It does not get as cold in the winter but you do have good snow. Very cheap to live there and a ton of stuff to do. Driving distance to Vegas and California. Not as much of a small town feel, people not as real. Loved living there though. |
