Believe me when I say you it is impossible to see it all.
And it is all a must see.
But things I am glad I saw are Empire state building ( and taking in the view), central park (its massive see as much as you can), washington square park, ride a subway. MOMA,
.
Things I wish I saw...Statue of liberty and time square...and maybe ground zero.

my favorite part of n.y.c. was central park. i'm absolutely in love with 'alice in wonderland', so i packed a picnic and had lunch by the statues. don't spend all your time pounding the pavement...take a break and spend some time in central park :)

It depends on what things you like most, when you are going, and your age. Besides all the usuall tourist spots you don't even need a guide for (statue of liberty, fairy to staten island, empire state building, ground zero - DON'T Go THERE, Times square, toys r us (it's really lame, they take your picture walking and then ask you to buy it for 10 dollars) and 5th avenue) if you like more alternative things for an unforgettable holiday you'll appreciate my recommendations:

If you are going late spring/early summer check out the brooklyn botanical gardens!

The museum of natural history is fascinating and they have special shows and exhibits every now and then.

If you are going before May you could still do outdoor ice skating. Either in Wollman park http://www.wollmanskatingrink.com/main_wollman.htm or the famous rockalfella center http://www.rapatina.com/iceRink/

you have to go to Chelsea - visit the chelsea peirs http://www.chelseapiers.com/ for some bowling/ice skating/gold/sports watching or just walking around

and the chelsea market for NY'c famous fat witch brownies and many other food markets in a neat artsy center. http://www.chelseamarket.com/

There's a lot of hot night clubs in chelsea.

If you loved sex and the city and/or you love cupcakes you must go to the famed Magnolia bakery: http://www.magnoliacupcakes.com/

You must check out NY mag for the latest reviews on the top restaurants/art galleries/and theater shows (off and on broadway) http://nymag.com/

Go dancing: http://nymag.com/listings/bar/happy_ending/
http://www.sobs.com/

See somes drags: For chinese food and kareoke: http://www.planetluckychengs.com/
For the best drag queen bingo: http://www.lipsnyc.com/

Visit the best in China Town: avoid canal st, and hit up mott or elizabeth. You must go to Elizabeth Center when you are passing China town! It's china town heaven. Here you get all your neat asian import stuff like street fashion, hello-kitty gift shops, stationary, video games, jewlery, chinese herbal shops, chinese spas (my mom and aunts go her for their microdermabraison and acupuncture lol), and a photo booth sticker shop! (A MUST!!!!) This place closes at 6 PM so you know.

Elizabeth Center/"Elizabeth Street Mall"
15 Elizabeth Street
New York, NY
J/M/N/Q/R/W/Z/6 to Canal Street

In china town you must go to one of the numerous bakeries/cafes and try BUBBLE TEA!

You must have a pastrami on rye with mustard at Katz's deli.
You must have a Nathans Famous Hot Dog in Coney Island.
You must ride the Subway.
You must take a walk through Central Park.
You must have Dim Sum in Chinatown (I recommend Jin Fong on Elizabeth Street).
You must take a walk down St. Marks Place in the East Village.

You "must" take me with you

You must see the Statue of Liberty

You must see Times Square

You must see the Empire State Building

You must see the Yankee Stadium

You must see Rockefeller Park

You must walk along Broadway

You must see Central Park, but not at night

Edit: I've always wanted to go to NYC. My daughter-in-law wants me to go with her next summer when she goes there to visit her grandmother. I can't wait to see the Statue of Liberty in person.

If you want CHANGE cash a dollar
Times Square. Food sold by vendors on the street. Go on the subway. Go to Chinatown. Go to Little Italy. Go to the Bronx Zoo. Hit up a museum, there are tons of them and it is never a waste of time. Go out to eat for EVERY meal, the food there is amazing no matter where you go. Go grab drinks at both a ritzy place as well as a hole in the wall bar. HAVE FUN!!

Blooming dales you are going to love It I'm very well traveled and there is no place like new york. Out of all the shops Bloomingdale's was my favorite. Make sure you see the Friends fountain in Central Park (if you were a fan of the TV show) and If your planning on doing the statue of Liberty then you need a pass to get to the 1st podium you can buy this on line 2 days before the rest of the statue has been closed since 9/11. Enjoy.

First and foremost a small party of anti-terrorism agents for your safety. A trip to the Statue of Liberty, but if you go near the United Nations building don't look too long; you may get arrested as a suspected terrorist ( ergo the need for an anti-terrorist squad ).

DumbObama
