What are the most dangerous neighborhoods in Atlanta? |
I'm trying to buy a home down there & I'm looking for a good real estate agent. I don't want to end up in a bad neighborhood. |

Stay away from the Southside (Clayton County) and the Westside (Bankhead, West End, anything pretty much off of 20 west). South Fulton is a really nice place to stay and North Atlanta is expensive but you pay for safety. The eastside (Decatur, Stone Mountain) has congested traffic into the city but are also areas to consider. |

Damn near ANYWHERE in Bankhead, the Southside (Lakewood, Pittsburgh, Oakland City, Campbellton Road, and northern East Point) Vine City aka "The Bluff", Simpson Road, Lee Street, Buckhead (there was a murder there in 1987 of a rich guy's wife; he hired someone to kill her; the bombing of "The Otherside" Gay and Lesbian Club, an Atlanta P.D. officer murdering a guy who was either in his late teens or early 20s, etc.), Thomasville, East Atlanta, and College Park (only the Red Oak Apartments and Washington Road areas). |

I find living in Atlanta, GA is just like living in any big City. I live in Midtown and love it. I was living in Stockbridge Eagle Landing a very affluent gated community--Crime is every where. The only thing I see sometime in Midtown is Prostitutes trying to pick-up people. I walk to the Fox Theater, I walk to my Physicians office, I walk to Walgreen's, Public market. I love Midtown--You should try to find an HONEST Realtor who will tell you "JUST THE FACTS" |

How much are you looking to spend? Where will you be working? If you stay on the north side of town you're generally alright. The Dunwoody & Chamblee areas are nicer areas. Bankhead Hwy. and Bowen Homes area are definates to stay away from (unless you'd like to get shot...). Buckhead has nice areas and even Midtown has nice areas (neither are cheap). |

I moved here just over 2 years ago. I was blown away by the service of my agent. She really knows her stuff.
Karen Meagher with Prudential Georgia exceded our expectations. you could probably find her at prudetialgeorgia.com.
She won't disappoint! |

Try looking at the burbs....like Union City |

First, don't fall for the line "crime is usually where the darker people are". There are levels of crime everywhere. The northside has its share of home invasions and robberies, the south side and portions of the city people like to shoot guns. The best neighborhoods are diverse and have plenty of young professionals. You want to identify a neighborhood with a strong neighborhood association, that have people involved and connected to their community not just when there's trouble.
Please disregard the following comment (below), as it proves the precisely the point I'm making.. |

I would consider moving to one of the burbs in Atlanta. You're still close to the city, but it's a lot quieter, safer, and has more of a small town feel. |

Try just the whole city of Atlanta, know if the highest rate of meth labs, seen a documentry on tv lately where nice neighborhoods look nice and never supecting any danger and in reality its not. |
