1) Read books. Go to the bookstore, buy a handful of new books, and promise yourself that you will finish at least one a month.
2) Volunteer. Join BigBrothers/Sisters, help out in a Soup Kitchen, mentor, walk dogs at an animal shelter, or adopt a grandparent at a local retirement home.
3) Learn Something New. Take a class at a local community college.
4) Find a new hobby. Sew, quilt, paint, needlepoint, pottery, make jewelery... there's something out there for everyone.
5) Garden. Even if you don't have space in your yard, you can container garden... fresh veggies.. YUM.
6) Travel. Take a road trip, go camping, go to the beach.

How old are you? If you're in high school, do something for your college apps. Volunteer with a youth group, hospital, or church group to do something for your community. That will help you get into a good school.
If you're younger than that, you can still volunteer. Write letters to soldiers, bake cookies for the elderly, do a food drive.
If you're taking the "me" approach, check out self development books at the library. Learn a language. Paint. Sculpt. Babysit. Get a job. Start a running club with your friends. Take karate, or knitting. And, if all else fails, there's the giant idiot box in the living room to suck up endless hours of your time. |
