What do people think of San Diego?

I was curious to know what people from other parts of CA and the country think of San Diego and what some people that live here think of it too. Even if you haven't ever visited SD, what are your impressions or opinions about it?

SD is a great place. I lived there ~25 years ago, and it was nice. I've known people who have lived there and didn't like it.

Here's a tale to help you decide:

A guy goes into the post office of a medium-sized city and talks with the post master there.

"So, what's this city like?" the man asks.

"Well, what's it like where you come from?" asked the post master.

"Well, I had a great house in a wonderful neighborhood. Everyone looked out for everyone else, helped out when they could, and the schools were great."

"Yup, it's pretty much the same here," said the post master.

A few days later another guy goe into the post office and talks with the post master.

"What's this city like?" askes the man.

"Well, what's it like where you come from?" asked the post master.

"Terrible. Absolutely terrible. I have crappy neighbors whose dog barks all night long, one neighbor had his house robbed and no one lifted a finger to help, the schools are bad. I don't like it at all!"

"Yup, it's pretty much the same here," said the post master.

So, you see, it's pretty much up to YOU as to how SD is.

Let me ask you this--How is where you live now?

I grew up on the east coast (Philly) and moved to San Diego when I was 18 (joined the Navy) and that was 16 years ago and I have never left and don't plan on ever leaving. I've visited places all over this country and there is no place I would rather live.

And as for the ignorant fool spouting off about politics, maybe you should learn the politics of San Diego before you mislabel us as a bunch of "leftwing nuts".

Just curious..

San Diego is the closest you can get to paradise in california as far as a beach setting...the women are georgous and the beach's are just freakin nice!!

Lots of great restaurants and plenty of things for little kids to do at the theme parks...

I adore San Diego!

I went once when I was eight with my grandma to visit her brother for two weeks, and once again a few years ago to visit the same uncle with my sister. I had a blast both times. It's beautiful, and I can't wait to show my bf and friends why I talk about it all the time on our roadtrip next fall!

Of course, I might have such a high opinion of it cause I live out near Detroit, which is crap, at best. Anywhere is better.

I didn't think I would like San Diego, but when I visited it, it turned out I LOVED it!!! I say skip the zoo, but go to Sea World, Balboa Park (on a tuesday... free museums!), and go to the Wild Animal Park. Oh and Sunset Cliffs. Plus the best place to stay is Hostelling International - Point Loma. Seriously, people were soooo nice in San Diego, and it was a lot of fun. I went in February.... not too cold and not too warm. Make sure you have a sweatshirt with you but don't expect to be wearing it all the time. Go to San Diego!!!

I just moved here from San Francisco, and it's nice.

It's a lost more quiet than I'm used to, but there are definately things to do. They have a very nice selection of vegetarian restaurants, if that means anything to you. Coronado beach (specifically Hotel Del Coranado) is just as beautiful as television makes it. The whole area is very nice. Very rich.

My boyfriend has lived in San Diego most of his life and he and his friends absolutely love it here.

Also, it has proved difficult for me to hold my liberal toungue in this conservative city.

I work in San Diego and find it quiet and boring. However, I am an exception to the rule. Everyone I've met who lives in or visits SD loves it.

Ive lived here my whole life and it seems like everyone that moves here from somewhere else loves it more than anywhere else but to be honest having been born and raised here its kind boring... i hate tourists and so does everyone around here and were all "nice" just because i think its something in the water we all have to smile at people and say hi to random people its a curse... clubs and bars are fun around PB and Downtown but get old fast... beach is fun for like the very first weeks of summer before all the tourists come.. zoo and wild animal park are fun the first two times.... if you catch my drift its a great place to visit but kind of boring to live.. i do like the fact that the mountains and desert are close and the river and the beach but when they get over crowded by the damn tourists there's no point.

it has the best weather, there is always something to do and many places to go, i love it !

I was always told that San Diego is a magical portal between Mexico and the US, and if you watch carefully, you can see mexicans suddenly appear and dart across the highways into the mainland. Don't know if it's true or not, thats just what i heard.

bagoftwix
Its horrible, crowded, freezing cold today, you will hate it so PLEASE STOP MOVING HERE!

;)

Not too much. I have always had the impression that California is a bunch of left wingers, now that Arnold has unleashed the socialist sword, I am sure of it.
