What do you do when its raining while staying at the Walt Disney World?

We are beginning intial planning for a trip to Walt Disney World. We are hoping to stay right on site at one of WDW's resorts. However, what do you if its pouring rain for a day? Are the parks even open? Are you stuck at your resort?

I just got back from WDW so I know exactly how to answer this one. The parks stay open during the rain. The rides and shows will go on unless there's ligthning, then you'll be asked to move someplace else but the park wont close. While I was there it rained EVERY-SINGLE-DAY but it never rained all day long. Bring ponchos and you'll be fine. Duck into someplace to eat to wait out the rain or walk around under your ponchos. You can still have a blast despite the rain.

Heavens no. Everything remains open, except for pools and or water rides if lighting or thunder is within a 6 mile radius. The best thing to do is work with the rain. This time of year, up until about September, it rains every afternoon for a little while and then clears up almost as quickly as it started. Buy some ponchos at Target or Wal Mart and have them on you while you're out at the parks. When it starts to rain, most people panick and seek shelter, or run into the shops. You will want to do the opposite. This is the best time to get on your favorite ride that had the really long line earlier. Put on your poncho and head over to that ride, dry as a bone. You'll most likely either walk right on or have a very short wait -- under 20 minutes.

If you're at one of the water parks when it rains, and lighting & thunder are within 6 miles of the park, they will shut down everything and ask that you stay off the beaches. It can take up to an hour sometimes for a storm to pass. Once the storm is 6 miles or more away, you will hear a bell ring. This is the signal for the lifegaurds to return to their posts. This is your que to run like mad to the waterslide of your choice. Soon after, you will hear an announcement that the park is now open and the storm has passed. I was just at Typhoon Lagoon last week and this happened to us. We had to wait an hour until the storm moved on. In this time, a lot of people left. By the time the park re-opened, half of the people had cleared out and we had a great time!

Have a great trip and pack those ponchos!

Buy a poncho or take an umberella just in case. They have a lot of indoor shoes and rides and things. Take cover in one of those. I just got back from there and it rained the whole time.

For few minutes , i enjoy.. then go to some restora and have a coffe... then go to hotel.

The only things that close during the rain are the waterparks (if it's thundering and lightning) and a few of the outdoor attractions. Keep in mind that June-Septemberish is the "rainy" season in Florida, which means we get an afternoon rain shower almost everyday. Luckily, they usually don't last much longer than an hour.
If you're in the parks when one starts, try doing an attraction or show that'll keep you inside a while (Such as the Hall of Presidents, the Great Movie Ride, most of the movies at Epcot, &c.) Chaces are, if you stick it out a little, the sun'll come back out in a bit.
Bring ponchos with you everyday, regardless of what the weather looks like in the morning.

Enjoy yourself. A little rain never hurt anybody.

pineappleclock2002
parks are open and many people leave when it starts to rain so the lines might be shorter...just put on a poncho...yes, they are ugly, but they do the trick....and HAVE FUN!!!! i have been to disney world about 13-14 times and i never let the rain stop me...a lot of the rides are indoors anyway....the only thing that might shut down are the water parks because you obviously can't swim in possible thunder and lightning...HAVE A MAGICAL TIME...hahaha :-)

parks are open, but the rides arent. go see some of the shows they have to offer there. or go swimming at the hotel pool. sometimes its good to spend one day getting up whenever you want, and just chilling in the room. rainy days are also good for shopping and for downtown disney, especially disney quest.

auntienaw
The parks are indeed open and on rainy days they even sell rain ponchos! You can get wet walking from attraction to attraction but each of the parks have indoor activities which take some time to complete. Epcot has alot of interactive activities where you & the kids can spend hours, like "Body Wars" "Innovention", "Mission Space" & "Honey I shrunk the audience", etc. MGM Studios have alot of shows which are under protective awnings and most attractions are indoor venues. You can also go to Downtown Disney for additional entertainment and restaurants.

Generally everything stays open unless the weather gets pretty bad. Most of the time, the rain only lasts for a short period of time. I have had very few trips where the rain lasted all day.

The main things to do would be to shop, maybe grab something to eat, etc. and then hope that the rain stops. Disney Quest is also a great option, just remember that everyone will have the same idea when it rains. It will be packed inside. You could also go to Cirque, it is a great show. If you will have some way to get around, there is tons to do in the area that would be inside, for example Wonder Works, the mall, etc.

Hopefully the rain won't last the whole day, it isn't too common, but definitely possible for it to rain all day. But there will be plenty to do.

poncho
and its not that bad, usally its just short little showers.
But most of the rides are indoors and the line waiting areas are covered for the most part so i wouldn't worry too much.

The parks are still open. You can catch a ride thats inside or you can eat or go visit a show. Or you can catch a bus to Downtown Disney and go shopping. Hope this helped.

GreatNeck
Bring a rain parker, walk aroun Park, rides may be closed . Eating shops, etc, open

Her Majesty
It rains every day about 4:00 p.m.
We rode the paddle boat. That was fun!

tweetymay
we go shopping, to a restaurant, or to an indoor show or ride. the crowds get very thin on rainy days. I like to go in September, and that is hurricane season, so there will likely be rainy days.

kill_yr_television
Wear rain compatible shoes (like Teva sandals), keep a poncho in your pack, and enjoy the shorter lines. Most of the "rides" aren't rides at all, in the sense of roller coasters or ferris wheels, so they are indoors. Most Florida rains are heavy but brief, with few of those slow all day soaker you have up north.

hellhammer
i would kiss my girl friend on the rain in disney land cause it's romantic

Kutekymmee
everything is still open, but in really bad weather they close the water parks and some of the bigger rides.

try the Disney Quest indoor amusement park - its at Downtown Disney. 5 floors of video games and simulators!

Well, well, well. What a great question! When it's raining at Disney the rides stay open as long as there is no lightning or thunder. If you don't want to get wet, you can go see all the shops, go to Downtown Disney and shop and have fun etc, or you could stay in your hotel room and watch tv, or you can go out on the town shopping at the malls, and museums in Orlando (the city has alot of stuff outside of Disney). My personal favorite is Ripley's Believe It or Not and the theaters in Orlando. Here is an overview of Fla's weather:
In the summer, (June-September) Florida is in the rainy season. We get tropical air masses which give us rain almost every afternoon between 1-5. The storms are usually only for 5-10 minutes but they can be intense with lightning and thunder. Every now and then, a tropical system will roar across the state (this is basically the only time during the summer when we have rain all day). On these days, I believe they will give you a refund or something but I'm not sure. The hurricane season is June-November so this can also happen during the fall. During the fall-spring, we usually have pretty nice weather, but sometimes we have cold fronts come through which can bring us a day or two of rain. Over all, however, I don't think it would rain the whole day if you came down here. Even if you did, there is plenty of other things to do in Orlando!
