I think that the city of Detroit has already improved a great amount in the past 5 years alone. If you drive down the main street(Jefferson) shops that used to be abandoned are now opening and being repaired. Also new homes are being built. And the main part of the city ( the Ren Cen, Fox theater, and the New Stadiums) has encouraged a night life that 5 years ago never existed

I think by 2012 the city will be in much better shape, but it is up to the people that live in the city, to make it prosper and flourish

probably much the same as it is now, but dirtier

Pancake
Worse than it is now.

A ghost town. In fact I believe the whole state will become a great big ghost town! I don't believe the auto industry will make a comeback. I left Flint, MI. a year ago and moved to Florida because the economy was bad. I say the last one to leave MI, turn out the lights!

Bug Fuggy
About 3 houses standing. And Kilpatrick will have a new Navigator

my response won't not very positive,
it is sad but true,, there may be another riot,
most of the housing will be empty due to the high cost of city taxes and the high cost of crime.

More fire/police layoffs
Tiger Stadium (my home away form home) will gone but still standing the Michigan Central Railroad building,
the Ilitches owning every empty building downtown ( and they will still be empty)
More schools close down (Finney,Pershing and Denby will be gone)
More Churches will be gone replace with (new religions or mosque's)

The only thing that will be the same will be that the Lodge will still be under consruction,,,
and the Tigers will still have not won the world series.

Panama
It's already a major slum area. In the future it's liable to become a national security prison. Like Escape From New York, they build forty foot walls around it, staff it with sharp shooters and dump the nations trash and questionable Riff Raff into the cesspool of what was Detroit.

Nearly a ghost town! All the decent paying jobs are already gone! You can buy a house there for less money than a decent car costs! :-(=

THE MAGIC EIGHT-BALL SAYS:

The failing economy, combined with years of mismanagement, will finally force a State take-over of our finances.

Just as in Highland Park, Flint, Hamtramck, Benton Harbor - the city contracts with its labor unions will be rengoitiated - huge swaths of city property will be sold for pennies on the dollar.

There will be two movements, one around DelRay, and the other on the Eastside to breakaway from the city and form new cities. The Eastside movement will be led by Senator Hansen Clarke and the DelRay/Mexican Town seccession leadership will be headed by John Conyers oldest son.

Coleman Young Jr. will be in the second year of his reign.

Kwame will be in Washington either as the Congressman of his mom's seat or as a Cabinet Officer in charge of HUD.

Mike Vick will be the Lions newest quarterback after serving a short prison term, a two year NFL suspension and another two years in NFL Europe.

The old warehouse district will begin to show life after the State Park, Marina and RiverWalk is completed.

Ford will go private and specialize in electric and hybred cars and diesel trucks.

Another bridge will be built to Canada, but will run into trouble when billionaire Manny Maroun dies by gunshot by his wife's cousin.

The RedWings will move into a arena built on property located behind Foxtown. The arena will be built mainly underground with a plexiroof that retracts.

The Tigers will be re-building after their back-to-back championships.

Well, I live here, and although the crime may not change, I believe that the downtown area in particular will become more cosmopolitan, clean, and filled with new shops, restaurants, and stuff like that.

Max - #23 (Starting Varsity PG)
hate to disspoint you but it will be the same or worse unless a major business moves in or they get recognized for something (good) but if you look at the numbers of popluations, there just going down because of the job-lay offs

g_mcmurran
downtown will thrive more, neighborhoods will stay the same, population will drop.

I think the Detroit automobile industry will make a big comeback, there will be jobs and factories open and prosperity. Stores and shops will be open and bustling with business. It will be thriving. Don't ever count America out. New York was counted out once and it came back stronger and better than ever. Detroit will too.

It depends how much longer Kwame stays in office. Between him and the city council . . . Ugh. Don't get me started.

In 5 years Detroit will start to see some major rebirth. The American Auto Industry will have stabilized and will be very profitable after moving into the Asian market. Detroit will still have some very poor areas but downtown will start to resemble a small version of Chicago’s Michigan Ave District. Housing prices in the city will be climbing while housing prices continue to fall in the suburbs. Detroit should have nurtured a few industries and rebuilt at least 5 districts within the city limits (2 are currently being rebuilt as we speak downtown and midtown). I can’t wait. It will be about 10 years until people start moving back feverishly.

In 5 years you will START to see the turn around. Things will be bad still. But, the seeds of growth will be visible.

pretty much the same, with more pollution. gangs will stay the same, crime will remain the same, not that big of changes.

Please God...let a Cat 5 hurricane hit that piece of crap town and put it out of its misery! Yikes! The ONLY redeeming quality of the entire detroit area...INCLUDING Ann Arbor...is the Detroit Metro Airport...coz you can use it to get the hell out of it and move to a REAL city! Detroit needs an enema!

Megegie
Well when I look out over the Detroit River then...I will see a crap city riddled with even more crime.

Fewer people, fewer jobs, colder winters, more humid summer.

or

tear down the old outdated manufaturing plants and replace them with hi-tech centers then, call the auto market crowd back with promises of new automotive jobs..ie; hybrids or other such vehicles =- yet, at small wages..
or recruit mexican immagrants at poverty level wages as' their the only ones willing to work for short-money.
