according to http://money.aol.com/mortgage/most-dangerous-states somewhere in Nevada is the most dangerous and then Louisiana is number 2 and so on. But I live in New Orleans and it is pretty dangerous.

Detroit or east L.A.

Detroit always wins this contest. But south L.A. is so bad that even the police won't go down in there.

The obvious answer is Philadelphia. I'd say Camden or another smaller city, but their populations aren't significant enough. Crime is desperation. Being poor doesn't mean you'll commit the crimes though. Detroit? Yeah, they're up there. East LA? That's not a city. But it's really not as bad as some people think. Movies can make anyone believe anything. Chicago and D.C. has become one of America's safest cities like New York and Boston. Pre-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans was bad. Sad to say, but lots of their trash has been driven out since than. The only people who came back were those with work. Most of the homes were destroyed and condemned. Every major city with poverty and crime out there doesn't tell you this, but that could be the best thing for their cities. Although it's not perfect now, it's improved.

Harlem, New York is very safe. I don't know what Bill's logic is, but I'll stick to crime index. We're talking about Manhattan, right? You know - the place where people average 138K a year? Harlem? Wasn't that the place where the Harlem Renaissance took place? So people who created some of this country's best literature turned into criminals? Really, this amazes me. It's easy for the media to sway people into thinking any place where black people live is bad though. Movies with Denzel Washington aren't supposed to scare you. The Bronx? Once again, I don't know what your reference is. New York City (all 5 boroughs) as a whole are rated among the top 15% of safe cities in America and are safer than the average suburb. The Bronx is included in that. The Bronx may not be as ''pretty'' or as mainstream as the other boroughs but that doesn't mean people are committing crimes. New York City's crime has gotten so low even the NYPD doesn't have an explanation. Sadly, the only people who'd believe New York City isn't a safe place are those who live there. What's safe to the average American is unsafe to people in New York. Where as the population of prisoners rises in America, it decreases in the state of New York. Funny how you don't mention any of that though.

Los Angeles, California because theres always a drive by shooting in broad daylight! and Bronx, or Harlem, New York is pretty bad. All cities have bad areas. Pittsburgh is Wilkinsburg and Braddock and New York is Harlem and LA. Really anywhere you go.
