I live in sierra Vista, we just moved here from Georgia, we are military and I love it. It is not hot like Phoenix or that area. The average is around 92 I think. We came in June and the hottest we got was 96 and the people around here said it was an unusually hot summer. I love the monsoon season, August to mid September. It is beautiful, flowers and trees blooming. I think it is lovely here, nice people and a big enough town to have what you need, but not to big to be a burden. My mom works in Florence, above Tucson and she said it was miserably hot. It would be 80 here and 110 there. Lots of congestion. I think it is just the area you choose, Good luck. By the way it is to be 72 today and sunny. Perfect

Phoenix is great because it is a large city with all the conveniences and major sports teams. Plus the cost of living is rather reasonable, but buying a house is expensive. Other parts of Arizona I wouldn't live in because they are too small! Tucson sucks! But if you are trying to "get away" from So Cal, then I wouldn't recommend Phoenix, because it is similar in many ways to So Cal (minus the beaches!).

It's okay. The only part I didn't like was all the crap over illegal immigrants. I think Arizona in general sucked because of that since they are on the border. Oh and they also have crazy *** drivers too, but at least you get places faster if you don't die.

If I had my druthers, I would take Arizona,over Calif. any time .

arizona is growing sooo fast. its getting over crowded and the homes here are soo expensive. in 2005 a home would be between 200,000 and 250,000. now you cant find anything cheaper then 350,000.
its nice here. iv lived here for almost 15yrs.
come and visit and you will find out for yourself.

I love AZ, went for the first time this summer and now my husband wants to by a second home there for vacationing and for retirement. Love Sedona.

Yeah, I'm gonna visit. We've got a company owned house out in Phoenix, I'm just not sure when to go. Why so sick of Cali? I live in Kansas, and trust me, it can't be worse then here! lol.

I love the Southwest. I'm from New Mexico and I love it most. Arizona is good, but Phoenix can be quite humid. I don't like California at all. But it's a matter of taste.

You should move to New Mexico instead. Albuquerque/Santa Fe, and Las Cruces all have nice weather and less traffic than pheonix.

i lived in az for 20 years...about 30 min east of phoenix. it is hotter than hell (literally) in the summer. it begins to heat up in may, and doesn't cool down until dec. it can be 100 degrees at 8 a.m.
there is awesome shopping there. i don't know about house/apt rental prices since i've been away for 12 years. tons of stores are open 24 hours, the malls stay open till 11p.m.cuz it's just too hot to be out shopping during the day. you must have a/c in your car and home!! i didn't, and thought i was gonna die every single summer. lol. swamp coolers do not cut it, just add more humidity.
the public school system is really awesome, as well as comm. college, and the universities.
you can go to the online newspapers: www.arizonarepublic.com i think. or the phoenix gazette...google newspapers for arizona.
northern az is so awesome. like flagstaff, sedona, oak creek canyon, camp verde, payson, prescott, holbrook, etc. but lake havasu city is even more hot than the phoenix area.
there is a lot of fun stuff to do in phoenix...native and other museums, art galleries, a huge swap meet at the dog racing track, phoenix zoo, tons of movie theaters. 12 screen drive-in movies on the salt river indian reservation, which is bordered phoenix, tempe, mesa, and scottsdale. the tribe also has 2 casinos, golf courses, etc. there are huge factory outlet malls, tons of parks with lakes for fishing...super great for kids. skate parks, etc. also huge lakes out of town for recreation...water skiiing, swimming, camping, etc.
there's a race track, arizona cardinals, phoenix suns, and arizona diamond back teams...many other teams winter there and you can watch them practice if you're into sports...the holiday events are really fun...craft fairs, native fairs and pow-wows, etc.
the monsoon seasons are not fun at all. huge dust storms a lot during july and august. it is super humid throughout the monsoon season.
if you can take heat that can (rarely) get up to a 124 degrees, i say go for it and move there.

I've lived in Arizona for the past 24 years (Prescott area) & I like it here.
Are you looking for less crowding & a slower pace of life?
Then you should probably avoid the Phoenix & Tucson areas. They're crowded & the traffic is terrible. Give me a small town any day.
Northern AZ, where I live, is much nicer in my opinion. Most of this part of the state is actually mountains & plateaus. The higher elevation in these places makes for mild summers & freezing winter weather. Snow is common & even sub-zero temperatures aren't unheard of.
Prescott & Flagstaff are nice northern AZ towns & still not too big. But they're growing quickly, so I don't know how long they'll stay that way. You could also check out the smaller towns & rural areas.
In the end, it really depends on what you're looking for. You'll have to decide what you're willing to "trade off".

I might move there someday. Been there a few times. Have family in Phoenix. I am used to Ohio's heat and humidity. In lower Arizona, in April it was just wonderful, High 80's, always low humidity. But the summer there is like our winter here in Ohio, you just stay indoors. They say it's a dry heat, like sticking your head in to a very hot oven...heat non-the-less. If you can afford California, you should be able to afford Arizona. Also, the best drive I ever took was from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon. Six hours of the most interesting and changing scenery. If you can stand the heat, just go north. Good luck.

Its very nice there, it gets HOT but there is no humidity. I like it there, but its so... blah... lots of dessert...

I was raised in Phx during the 60s and 70s. It was nice then, but I wouldn't go back - too many people. Northern AZ is best.

But consider staying in CA. To many CAs are messing up other good states. Why don't you stay and clean up your own state first?

I hate az. The gov sucks and the sheriff in PH is crazy. Only thing good there is The Jambusters bluegrass band out of Tempe

a place where retirees live in sweltering trailor parks in the most godawfully ugly scrubby desert. And it is UNBELIEVEABLY hot in the summers.
