I grew up in the MD suburbs and now live in Boston.
Things I miss about DC: the Smithsonian, the monuments, and the cherry blossoms. Basically the tourist stuff.
Things I DON'T miss about DC: the restaurants, the traffic and cost of living (Boston is bad but DC is worse), the weather, and the people, lack of real neighborhoods. Plus the hobos, haha... again Boston is bad but DC is worse. And the security everywhere.
Overall: I miss DC because it's home, and overall I think it's a GREAT city to visit and everyone should, but it's not the most liveable city in the world. Boston is much more so. Plus the food is better here. |

Forget about the traffic and lousy hot humid summer weather. The real issue is Washington hasn't changed all that much since the d ays of segregation. It's two cities, divided by money and race. Most whites and middle class blacks live west of the river. There is relatively little crime, and that's what the tourists see.
The poor blacks, who make up the majority of the population all live east of the river in areas where you can be shot if you're just a kid sitting in your living room watching tv. No tourist in their right mind would dream of going there, and so they don't see or deal with the drugs, violence, disgusting living conditions that these people have to put up with in their daily lives. No wonder D.C. has no voting represenation in Congress...if it did, all the ugliness that we pretend isn't there would become known, and D.C. would ex exposed for the racist city it is. |

I've been here for two years now, and I like it a lot. It strikes a good balance between urban/small town. I like that there are a lot of green spaces. I probably wouldn't like it if I lived in a suburb and had to fight the traffic all the time, but that's why I live within the district. Plus the economy is fairly recession-proof due to the government, so there are plenty of jobs.
I love the museums and all the cultural things DC has to offer.
I moved here from a bigger city, and while I miss tall buildings and all the bustle sometimes, I probably will stay in DC for quite awhile. |

I love DC and the whole metro area. I moved to Northern VA from Wisconsin after college, and have lived here since 1993. I really love the culture, the diversity, the politics, and all there is to do. And living in No. VA. is perfect, since you are close to the city, but not in it, and to live in it would be too expensive for me, and too hectic. But it is great to be able to go to theater at Kennedy Center and The Warner, to go to the National Mall and all the Monuments and Memorials, and to the Smithsonian museums.
I am so happy to be raising our family here!! I have visited 26 states, and lived in 2 other states (WI and IL) and DC/VA is the place for me. ;-) |

I have lived in the South and the Midwest my entire life and just moved to Washington D.C. 7 months ago. I can honestly say that D.C. is the worst city I have ever been to. I find the people to be rude, mean, and just terrible people in general. I hope I never turn into anyone of these people I see on the streets. Now, there are a few good people that I have met, but like myself, they have all just recently moved here as well. There is just something about this city that drains all of the "good" out of you. The traffic is horrindous, the people are mean, there is no such thing as customer service (that is if you can find someone that even speaks english), it is the dirtiest city I've ever seen (second to Kansas City actually), the crime is unbeleivable, and the housing prices are absolutely ridiculous! Long story short, I am finishing my lease with my apartment and moving out of this area. |

I hate that the rich white people keep moving in and making the rent go up. It seems to be happening all over the city. There is no affordable housing here anymore for anyone who is struggling, unless you're a single mother and qualify for Section 8. |

I lived there for 13 years (NoVa). I liked it. It is a relatively active city and the downtown mall area is great. I think it strikes a fair balance between a city and surburban life. Traffic is bad, cost of living has gotten a bit steep. All in all I think it does all things fair to well. I wouldn't say it excels or fails in any area. |

It bored the crap out of me, and I was there for 4 days. everything is expensive, the clubs to me sucked. I am sorry, but you wanted to know. I am from LA, to me the best place I have ever went to was to the Philippines(Boracay, and Quezon city)! Its cheap, there tons of beautiful women, the food is excellent, and the people are very hospitable. |

I LOVE DC!!! There's just something about it, you know? What I don't like about it is the freaking heat in the summer!!! Also, the walking....it takes a toll after while! DC is one of my favorite places to go and I've been there about 10 times. My sister lives in Arlington, VA so when I go visit her, we always go into DC. |

I love DC. The weather is a little warm and humid in the summer. The cost of living is high. The traffic is awful.
The museums are great. The restaurants are great. There are a ton of cultural events. The job market is almost always good. The people are pretty nice. The public transportation system is great. |
