i recently moved from n. ca. (sacramento area) to the houston area. I was suprised at how much nicer the ppl. are, the govt. workers ACTUALLY work (i don't have to wait forever for the tax dept. to pick up the phone + their dmv answers calls in a timely period as well) + the drivers aren't as psycho as the ones i've encountered in california. People are helpful and i think houston doesn't get as much recognition as it should. I also once thought of texas w/ the stereotypes of huge hats and ppl. riding around like the lone ranger...but when i came to visit a friend i was pleasantly suprised by what I encountered. All that and an affordable lifestyle, too. So i'm not looking back on having moved away from california based on my experiences in san jose + sac. |

Texans are nice folks who would give you the shirts off their backs to help you out... but don't cut one off in traffic!
I'm an adopted Texan. My family moved here 30 years ago. I married a native Texan. I quickly learned to fit in. Still, some of my wife's relatives think of me as her "Yankee husband." Hopefully our kids won't be "Yankee spawn!" :)
While I expected cowboys and tumblweeds back in 1977, I was pleasantly surprised to see houses, neighbors, father's commuting to work, no oil derricks in the back yard. My "Joysey" accent vanished in six months, though. If you make an attempt to fit in you'll be welcomed. If you spend your time whining how much better your former home (in New York, California, or wherever) was, you'll be treated politely but won't ever feel welcome. |

Well, Texas, being part of the South, has that whole "southern hospitality" thing going. For the most part, people are generally friendly. And just like the rest of the world, there are rude people, smart people, ignorant people, wise people, racist people, liberal people, conservative people, and everything in between.
Texas is an interesting blend of Old South and wild west. It's got the lady-back feel of the south rolled in with the cowboy mentality. Most of the state is very beautiful and it offers a little something for everyone. There is nothing in the US like Texan pride. It's a great state to live in or visit.
I've lived all over the US and travelled to just about every state. While I've enjoyed visiting all the places I've travelled, and I did love my old homes, I absolutely love living in Texas right now and have no plans of leaving the state anytime soon (except for vacations). |

When I think Texas, I think Roger Clemens and how he acts. He doesn't act rude or anything...but you know...he's frigging Roger Clemens, lol.
Big talker, driving a nice truck, likes the outdoors, etc. I've been to most of the U.S., although I don't live there, but I would love to visit Texas one day. Heard it's a beautiful state. |

I watched a lot of cowboy movies during my childhood still now I couldn't get rid of images of cowboys riding their horses every time I heard the word Texas. To make it worst there are jeans called Texan Rider. Who to blame? Never been to Texas though. No offense Texans. |

Big state, like it's own country... How could you lump everyone together and make a judgement on it all in one opinion ??? Bush comes from there, that in it'self is a black mark, as far as I am concerned... Otherwise , I have found Texans to be very friendly and kind persons. They keep their roadways in good repair, and are very courteous drivers. From an outsider, what more could be expected??? |

I cant speak for the world, but they have a messed up justice system. That's my 1st thought.
Almost every week theres a news story of some guys that's been in prison for many years in Texas that is cleared of his crime thru DNA, also the juvenile justice system is very corrupt `full of pedophiles` ... The Houston crime lab was shut down a couple years back for incompetence, also Texas executes the most people every year, now you know there's some innocent people being killed with all the other problems going on in the criminal justice system.
Of course im a Yankee so wtf do i know. |
